The backlash was swift. Smollett was kicked off Empire. The police arrested him and the brothers. He has been sued to court and convicted.
Weeks after his conviction was upheld by an Illinois court, I sat down for an exclusive interview with one of the two Nigerian brothers, AbimBola Osundairo - to talk about how international scandal that completely changed his life, what it taught him about America, how his family responded to this, and why he feels he let down his morals and values.

I believe him when he says he didn't hate Trump, but he was an accessory to what was seen as a serious hate crime that caused great turmoil against Trump and his supporters. He talks as if he acted in good faith in some fun prank to help his acting, but in fact, it was a really nasty way to behave.
