Excellent Storm and Stasis Field play are the key to any army vs army engagement for the Protoss. It really tips the scales in a big way. Doing 1000 damage on a couple of well-placed storms or freezing 6 units from acting with a stasis field can literally decide the battle.
Only a few days ago I finished watching your entire Brood War Playlist) I'm lovin' it too) Just sitting at McDonald's right now and watching your cast)
Recently got back into broodwar and this has been amazing, especially now that I'm basically locked in my house for the forseeable future. Thanks for what you do. Woah! That comeback was sick! Mong had nearly twice as many bases which normally would result in a direct loss for the Protoss (since P needs more bases usually in that matchup). Those Recalls and Psionic Storms really made the difference. Good quality cast, as usual! :)
Scouts are not "bad" units. They just have a functionality that is rarely called for in the way pros play Brood War. They are designed to counter heavy units like carriers, battle Cruisers, Guardians, and devours. 1 Scout VS1 battlecruiser or Carrier will win. They also cost less than Capital ships which is why they are great counters to them and also they have very high air-to-air damage. The fact that they have a little bit of ground attack is just a bonus to their abilities. If you do indeed upgrade their speed then small numbers of Scouts become very adept at countering attacks from Capital ships anywhere on the map. It's just that no one ever uses battlecruisers are carriers very often.

Beautiful game. I dont get why Protoss never makes a shield battery for end game to heal the carriers shields so they can fight again as soon as possible. Also Terran didnt make science vessels to spot cloaked carriers and EMP them and no ghosts for lock down. That stasis in the end won the game easy.
I was wondered why top tier Protoss players don’t make more high Templar like this. When you have around 8-10 HT with your air army & you can blanket the field with storms constantly bruising up all the tanks & killing the goliaths.

Here's something short and sweet for everyone in the ghost vs. carrier debate: ua-cam.com/video/9s6UG1HQ5qE/v-deo.html Found it on liquipedia. Horrible quality, but the commentators make up for it.
I ALWAYS get frustrated and yelling at my screen when I see a terran player doing this well against a protoss and losing when there would have been a very, VERY easy solution. Ghosts. If you lockdown those carriers? The protoss doesn't have anything they can do against it. The best they could try to do is maybe stasis the ghosts, or feedback? (Hahaha... like they use dark archons either) I can't... FATHOM why they don't build them! They're not that expensive! Gas is pretty easy to come by in the endgame of broodwar, especially if you're building such mineral heavy units like goliaths and tanks! Sure if you're up against a zerg nothing is mech, and if you're up against a terran they can just use restore at half the cost (if they ever researched it) but Protoss CAN'T stop it! The only units they've got that can't be locked down are their zealots, high templar, dark templar, and archons, and your science vessels can absolutely destroy them! Falcon... can you please explain this to me? Am I missing something?
it's a combination of many things. The first thing is that terrans have zero barracks to produce ghosts late game and often there is very little room in the main to physically fit them. The second problem is that upgrades don't share between bio units and mech. Ghosts deal 10 concussive damage (100% to small units like zealots but by this point they will have 4 armor total so it will be negligible, and 50% reduction to medium units, and 75% damage reduction to large units like dragoons/carriers which makes them literally useless in a combat sense). Another aspect is simply time. By the time you see that your opponent is going carriers you have to do a number of things just to get ghosts. You have to build a covert ops and necessary barracks, then you have to train the ghosts which are very gas expensive (25 mins and 75 gas) which eats into your tank production (which is very important to keep up in case protoss stops at 3 carriers and then goes hard into goon/zealot production). Then you also have to research lockdown which costs a whopping 200/200 and you have to wait for the 100 energy that lockdown costs. By the time all these things happen, if you didn't already build 20 goliaths, you will be dead against a good protoss player who sees you teching towards ghosts and acts in a decisive manner. so it's difficult to find the money and time for all this and to survive at the same time. Another practical problem for players at high levels is that a good protoss player will always have his carriers stacked up tightly (this is to make it hard for terran to focus down weakened carriers with Goliaths) but this also proves to effectively counter lockdown as it becomes very difficult to cast the spell on different carriers. There's also no "smart casting" in Broodwar so you have to do the cloning technique to cast lockdown effectively which is very micro intensive when you are already moving and sieging tanks, laying mines, and kiting with goliaths. otherwise it's actually pretty good if you can get there and you are talented enough to make it work :)
@@victorholowinski4619 Okay, but here's another thing I don't understand. Why not simply use the ghosts to lock down the dragoons? At 100 energy per lockdown, that's still not that difficult to pull off, and you're talking about how expensive a ghost is but they cost half as much as a high templar or a defiler, with about just as much tech to go that way. Also both of those units don't even HAVE any attack, so I think the ghost's damage is pretty negligble when weighed against the value of a 60 second lockdown. That's right, lockdown lasts a full minute, and the unit can be fired upon the entire time. Sure the lockdown itself costs 200/200 to research, but so does most spell abilities like irradiate, EMP, psionic storm, consume, plague, etc. For how inexpensive a ghost is in supply and resources, you could easily lock down ten or twelve dragoons with just a handful of them, and make 24 supply of the protoss army effectively useless while the tanks mop up everything. At the end of this game, our terran player was sitting on over 1400 gas he couldn't use, so I don't buy that you can't afford ghosts and tanks at the same time. Did I also mention that you don't even have to cloak the ghosts if you don't want to bother? They've got such a long range with it they want, they can usually lockdown a target without taking a hit, and you can save extra energy for double lockdowns if you're willing to let your ghosts die. (or just fork over the extra resources to have cloaked ghosts with 250 total energy) The barracks could be a slight problem to fit into tight bases, but the humans could always lift off whatever buildings they don't feel like using at any given time period. You could also hypothetically put some of your production facilities in your secondary, since you'll often use your secondary as a defense for your main anyways. Barracks are probably more effective walls than supply depots anyways with their ability to lift and land. As for the micro? Please. Even *I* can micro enough to have my ghosts lock down individual targets, and I'm not anywhere close to professional level. It's not that much harder than targeting units for irradiation, and it's a hell of a lot more efficient than queens trying to spawn broodling tanks. Those Carriers were not stacked so much that you couldn't possibly hit individual ones, and even if they were, the lockdown lasts a full minute, and I doubt they'd stay on top of their one locked down carrier that entire duration. It feels like an oversight or laziness on the part of pro players with the sheer quantity of mech the protoss employ.
@@victorholowinski4619 I've been pondering on this earlier, and the math is simple; it takes about a minute and a half and 250/250 to tech to ghosts with lockdown, providing you already have a science facility. That's not too much. Barracks take 50s to build and ghosts are 32, so you can start churning them out in numbers by that time. Infantry attack is of negligible worth, since the value of ghosts is in their casting abilities, not their (concussive) DPS; armor is a bit more useful but, being frail as they are, it won't help much. Cloak may, but that's not only another tech, but a heavy drain on ghost energy as well. The real time-consuming bit is the time each ghost takes to get to 100 energy. The kicker is that even a couple of lockdown-ready ghosts can make a difference against a kiting mass carrier fleet, chipping away at their numbers or forcing an engagement with the goliaths while exposing themselves to potentially more lockdowns. That said, this might work on mass carrier (I'm still waiting for a game that proves it either way), but that's not what Shuttle went for in this game. He carefully balanced between ground troops and carriers, having enough of the former to engage the terran and enough of the latter to hit and run effectively. This may have been the best late-game unit composition I've ever seen from a protoss player. Barring extreme luck and god-like micro on Mong's part, I don't see how ghosts could have turned the tables.
ghosts are to expensive. His real problem is that he lost his Starport and Science Facility. Really needed those science vessles for detection & EMP to weaken those Carriers. Goliths own Carriers.
the most honorable death or sacrifice you can have in starcraft universe isnt any protoss tribal bullshit No but being killed by allied Tank splash damage
Flash makes it look easy.. People don't realize how hard it is for most players to use Terran to beat protoss.. Only the super high level players can make it look easy.
I could give you some fun replays, not of any pro's. But i dunno how to share them. Just a suggestion if you could get fans and followers to give you enough replays of just any kind of interesting games. Stuff like fastest map or Big game hunters. You could do 2 of those a week and 1 pros replay a week. Way more content and would really stretch out the limited amount of pro replays. Aslo sometimes the mid level player games are just as fun because things get so ridiculous. Like 2v2v2v2 Big Game hunter games are almost always ridiculous.

(or just fork over the extra resources to have cloaked ghosts with 250 total energy)
The barracks could be a slight problem to fit into tight bases, but the humans could always lift off whatever buildings they don't feel like using at any given time period.
@@rippa86 25 minerals 75 gas = too expensive
... what?
why ppl never using scouts but only corsairs and arbiters?
Scouts are too expensive for what they cost.
MY LIFE FOR AIUR!!!
You cannot cancel archons, just as a heads up.
thin ice
the most honorable death or sacrifice you can have in starcraft universe isnt any protoss tribal bullshit No but being killed by allied Tank splash damage
Steves rocks !!!! Destroy any Nexus.....
I don't understand why no lockdown on carriers in professional matches.
Hard to transition to that many ghosts when you're meching.
Flash makes it look easy.. People don't realize how hard it is for most players to use Terran to beat protoss.. Only the super high level players can make it look easy.
Its not "Hellions" :P
Brood WARRRRRRRRRRRR
I could give you some fun replays, not of any pro's. But i dunno how to share them. Just a suggestion if you could get fans and followers to give you enough replays of just any kind of interesting games. Stuff like fastest map or Big game hunters. You could do 2 of those a week and 1 pros replay a week. Way more content and would really stretch out the limited amount of pro replays. Aslo sometimes the mid level player games are just as fun because things get so ridiculous. Like 2v2v2v2 Big Game hunter games are almost always ridiculous.
Check out the Discord! You can send replays in one of the channels (:
