So beautiful. Question, as I'm not a horse person....do these horses naturally grow this large, like from beginning of time? Or have they been genetically bred for their height, thus getting larger over time? What is the purpose for a horse this big, if bred for it? It must expend a lot of energy, so I can't see if occurring naturally, without intent for size. I hope someone understands what I'm trying to ask, because I can't find the right words. Sorry. samiamisme Horses come in three basic sizes, you have your ponies which were used in coal mines or for small tasks, then you have the Light horses which are the average horse you would see being ridden they are the most common version and are used for riding and performance, Next you have your Draft Horse (like this Percheron). Draft horses have been bred for centuries for farm work and pulling heavy loads. For this you need a large muscular horse that is gentle and smart. The horses get their size from evolving to what is required of them. A normal horse with small hooves and a medium body would never be able to complete the work that a draft horse with a large muscular frame and big feet could. Percherons Percherons are from an area in France once know as La Perch (50 miles outside Paris). Percherons proved their worth in plowing feilds all day, having a good work ethic, and being gentle and careful. These horses were bred for the best traits in each horse creating the tall powerful horse we have today. Around 1900 their popularity grew for Circus mounts as machines were replacing them. Today they are used in halter, cart, driving, and farm work in Amish country. Hope this helped!
Depends on their fur coat, if it is not so much, it may hurt, but in very small proportions. I work with around 40 horses and they don't feel pain from a small stick. Even if you kick a horse so he can start running while you are riding it, it wouldn't feel it as something painful
