I know what you mean about it being eerie I’ve walked down there a few times
Keep up the good work and be safe from shitty Swindon (penhill)😂😂

Shocking what happened here. I remember this breaking and the bodycount was going up daily. I lived in Tuffley and regularly walked this road after a night out in town

Me too, Lloyd, still has a profound effect on me passing through Cromwell Street - thanks for dropping by!

Fred west asked my mum if I wanted to babysit. Mum said no.
I also lived in midland road, and was at my maté’s opposite when the police all turned up. I was a young single mum then with a baby. My baby is 32 this year. How time flys. I felt for the victims and Fred got off lightly with taking his life. I feel for the rest of his kids.

Wow! That must've been a crazy time to witness all of that kicking off. I remember the TV footage with the street filled with news reporters and cameras. It really is a macabre but strangely fascinating piece of history.

Did you know him and if so what was your opinion of him? Same for Rose. (Prior to arrest and revelations of course)
Are you aware of any suspicions of them while this was going on?

Your mum’s answer saved your life. I hope she is still healthy and well. God bless your mum

I had a work project in Gloucester shortly after Fred W's arrest, and remember thinking the church next door looked 1970s/80s - ie, right at the peak of Fred's gruesome hobby. Surely a building site right next door must have been tempting.
More to the point, the poor users of that church might have come to the same conclusion.
I also noticed some ambivalence in the city's residents - as if "at least we are on the map now". This was demonstrated by the local paper headlining with "FREDDY'S BACK - in court".

Do we know what happened to the residents of the neighbouring address that was joint to 25 Cromwell Street?
I assume they given compensation to buy a new house?

Remember parts of this when I was at school, hard to believe it was so close to us

I mean look at the houses thyre all packed and crammed next to each other. There would have been a lot of people walking there in and out of their houses going about their daily lives
And nobody felt or saw anything strange with Fred doing renovation always?!???

Not only did I live opposite the walkway garden that was 25 Cromwell St, I've also spent the night in 25 Midland Road where they found the body of Charmaine West (8) under the house. Virtually the whole groundfloor hallway was concrete instead of floorboards, where they had to fill the hole left after forensics had excavated the remains.

Wow, it’s amazing how close we can be to historic events and places at times; even such horrible ones like this. That’s quite the connection you have.

There's an excellent podcast called unheard: the fred and rose west tapes. All put together buy the mirror journalist who was first to break the story.

    I've been myself.
It made me feel cold and uncomfortable, very unsettling indead.
The feeling you get down there, is like nothing ive felt before or since.

Two of their victims were their own children. 🤦 Rose turned 70 last month. She’ll probably be in prison until the day she dies

@@ukexploredthat's the truth, just like Dennis Nilsen's flats & the Yorkshire Ripper's house, they've become macabre tourist attractions.

When you see how close together the houses were it's amazing they weren't caught sooner. It is strange how people are attracted to these horrific stories, myself including. I think it's partly just trying to comprehend something that is so far from normal it's almost unbelievable.
