This is actually a very important VLOG. I have been playing poker as a serious hobby for over 30 years and I can say that the most important thing to learn, almost more important than learning advanced poker theory, is how to work through, accept and not tilt bad losing days. Being a little to loose or tight will cost you some EV, but tilting off 500 or 1000 BB (which I have done) will cripple you. It is so so so hard to not play like a schmuck after you get coolered, but a true professional, as you certainly are developing into, will walk away and collect themselves and fight back level headed. You may have lost money but I agree with you that you should be proud of how you handled yourself and realize it's just another day in the life of a professional.

Cooler yes, bad beat no. He was ahead of you the entire time. The J on the river sucks but not a bad beat, just the only card in the deck that gets him paid.
As they say, embrace the variance!

    • @Nosirt
      @Nosirt 2 роки тому

The J is actually kinda bad for the villain too since any 2 pair combo with j would counterfeit his boat.
But I think given the action, the villain pretty much nailed heros range as Jx without 2 pair since he never got raised.

Great VLOG. I think we learn more from the losing hands than the winners. A thought about the AJ vs 44 hand: I think the villain saw a tell when the Jack rivered. That's why he shoved all in, he picked something up from you and knew the Jack was huge for you. Had the river been a brick he would have value bet, say, $1200 - $1500 knowing that you weren't all that strong with just a pair.

Pocket 4's that was gross. I always feel like most check raises from straightforward players are usually baby sets so 44 maybe not too surprising from a large part of the player pool. But that guy was super aggressive and shown to bluff. Could easily have KJ, flush draw, others I guess. I would snap call as well. Sorry about the cooler dude.

Love your videos and the fact you don't just show the run good but the loosing nights as well. The hand against the vlog watcher you told us your thought processes. One thing you didn't mention. Yes, he is a vlog watcher, but you are in Dallas, Texas, where they like to bluff as well as call down on the river with marginal hands. I play there often and while there are tight tables, they are the exception rather than the rule. With me, winning or losing for the night often comes down to one hand where I'm either coolered, or make a bad read and fold the winning hand. Anyway, I love your videos so keep up the good work.

on the AJ versus 44 hand, I feel like if the EP preflop raiser had a Ax of diamonds, he would've C bet on the flop instead of check raise. There definitely are plenty of players who would take that line with a hand like Ax of diamonds, but the check raised just seemed kinda strong to me. I think he might lean more towards a call with Ax of diamonds knowing that Jx with strong kickers will not fold too often. When I was watching it, my initial thought was he had binked a set of 4s lolol, and if not that, an overpair. Comparing the semi-bluffing combos to the made hand combos...
    Semi-bluffs: AKd, AQd, ATd (50%?), A5d, A3d, A2d - 5.5 combos
Made hands: AA, KK, QQ, JJ, 44, 22 - 22 combos! (Equities vary amongst these combos)
When looking at the combos like this, I think it's very realizable that it might not be very profitable to get involved with AJ, especially considering that you have to fade a diamond on the runout. It might be more profitable if you think you're opponent is bluffing with hands like AQo, A5o, etc. with the A of diamonds.

I think that AJ hand is not a snap call. Although seat # 4 did bluff all in with a busted straight draw before, he was in position and that was quite a scary board to bluff catch for seat # 2, especially oop. The fact that he showed his bluff means he knows people will be wary of his image, and thus more likely to call him down. Regarding the AJ hand, seat # 4 checked raised two opponents oop, and bomb turn and shove river. What bluff would he realistically have? Unless you think he is a fish, I don't think a normal player would just shove Aces, Kings or Queens on that river. I don't think KJ, QJ would check raise 2 opponents and just blast off either. So realistically you're mostly beating a bluff, like diamond draws. However, when you called a bet and raise on the flop, your range contains a lot of jacks. The river pairing jack is a terrible card to bluff at if he had missed diamonds. Granted, it is a very tough hand to get away, especially against a player with such wild image, but I really think you should have just think about it for a little before calling.

J river probably makes it more of a fold than if it was a 2 of spades, once he goes all-in. What do you think he does that with as played once the 'worst' card hits? He never has a J himself. Making up your mind on the turn is good, but refusing to re-evaluate is not.

I thought he was bluffing you with a good diamond scare. He was, but you did fold and move sooner than later, way better than playing back at him with a whole table full of players. You are great and winning thousands after a few sessions will decrease this session's deficit over time. No worries, you got this.

  • @mikemckeon8976

Yea, that J on the river was the worst card for you! The check raise on the flop is setting off alarm bells, but I understand the call with the prior shown bluff. Then that river just S..KS! I think even if you took time to think it out, you still could have called, Monday Quarterbacking aside. I normally will only show one buff, just to set up this same kind of outcome later in the game. I never show the buff on a player whom is just running back, but reloading, they already on their own kind of tilt.
But your friend was happy to see you, has to help you out mentally at the end of a bad session ❤

I don't think the AJ hand was as much a cooler as a mistake giving him too narrow a range. When he raised, he's doing so with strength into the bettor and a call. That, to me, would scream set. And since you have a jack, it should narrow that down to 22 or 44 almost exclusively. Only other thing I'm giving him is a bluff with the nut flush draw, which he's obviously capable of.

Love your vlogs Lex, and agree that the 44vs AJ hand on J427J was a big cooler - but not a bad beat which you conflated the two @10:37. A bad beat is where you are well ahead and then the villain sucks out with a small number of outs (eg gutshot on river) after the money goes in, whereas a cooler is big hand vs bigger hand eg set over set. Coolers happen, shrug it off and move on, good luck dealing with the tilt monkey but as a good professional - which you are - it's part of the variance of poker.

The AJ isnt really a huge cooler as you say since you said you were going to pay off a river bet anyway on a blank.

Bad luck on the cooler but I think 44 hand felt like a fold on the river. That river card is bad for him to bluff and the all-in eliminates all over pairs. I think it narrows his range to either a set or KJ/QJ. Would be a close call but the bet size and consistency makes it more likely a set.
