Just received the Karve Overlander in aluminum after waiting over 5 months for it to be back in stock. Shaved with it once. Very close, comfortable shave. It is very easy to find the correct angle. I got the 4" handle and I love the grip. The blade clapping is excellent. Jonny was bang on when he said one of his favourite razors is the Karve Overlander in aluminum. I bought it as a retirement present to myself. I know this puppy will last me the rest of my life. I know you are a fan of this razor JMac so I just want to give you an update. Looking forward to many excellent shaves. Like you, I also love Lothur Grooming shave soap. What a great combo.
Appreciate the info my man! So glad to hear you’re loving the Overlander, it’s my favourite razor now as well that I’ve had lots of time with it. Løthur is crazy good, I know I’m always in for a great shave when I bust that out. Happy retirement and enjoy the razor in good health!
@@JMac. Glad to hear I'm on the right track with the Karve Overlander and Lothur. I am very particular about the hardware and software I choose. I have been doing traditional wet shaving since April 2022, and I have fallen in love with shaving. With cartridge razors, I used to hate shaving. Now every second day, I get up excited because "... it's shave day". Thanks for your kind wishes for my retirement. My razor collection is now up to 2 razors (Karve Overlander and Henson AL13 Mild - original version). I think that's it for razors for me. Because my two razors are black and Lothur packaging is black, I call my favourite stuff "Black Magic". Take care.
@@robertross8565 you’re most welcome! Sounds like your on the right track, and glad to hear you’re enjoying your shaves now! It only gets better as you go and there’s tons of great stuff out there to try out!
Thanks brutha, I was hoping that was clear and concise! I think I’m team Karve hahaha, anyone of them just work so good!! Buuuut that being said, this Overlander is a freakishly great shaving razor.
These are both beauties. Kind of hard to go wrong. I can tell that I'm going to have a brass/bronze/copper phase someday! Others would be Timeless and Brassbird. Thanks for the comparison video. Great stuff my man.
Thanks Eric! You’re right, hard to go wrong with either of these razors. I like brass, it has character, and if it gets too grungy, really simple to take it back to brand new and start over. These Karves have been RAD killers for me, I’ll still add to the Karve collection, but that’s really the only manufacturer that I keep an eye on for new stuff. Have a great rest of the week my man!
Great comparison man! I found the Overlander to have a slight edge on efficiency over my B plate, and slightly more intuitive head geometry. But pretty analogous overall. If I 'had' to pick a winner though, I'd give it to the Overlander for a daily shaver and also for knocking down several days of growth, but only very nominally. Have a good one sir!!
Thanks Kaleb!! I agree, and I guess the only way to Sun it up is the Overlander had a bit of positive blade exposure where the B plate doesn’t, so I’d give it the slightest of edges there as well… just tackled 5 days growth and was very impressed. Hope the day is going well brother!

Nice shave Justin and explanation of the blade geometry. I'm a daily shaver and it's very hard on the skin if you use an aggressive razor. Have a great day Brother
Thanks for comparison Justin. I don't have either razor, however, based on your comments and others I've seen, I'm still drawn towards the Overlander rather than the CB-B plate. A number of factors some you highlighted which help with my choice: the natural 30 degree shaving angle; slightly better efficiency with the small +ve blade exposure; smaller blade reveal and the tight blade clamping to reduce blade chatter. Anyway looking forward to next drop, hopefully I can pick up an AL Overlander.👍🤔🤟
Thanks Lawrence!! Yeah if your after a more traditional shaving angle than the Overlander is definitely the one to go for. Both that and the CB razors do a great job of blade clamping, I don’t notice any chatter on my CB razors either. Hopefully they will have AL back in stock for ya soon if you choose to grab one!
nice shave my friend. ooo yeh i do like the carve must say i like the original with the oc plate it has that steam punk look but the overlander does look nice 👌
Thanks brother!! Tbe Karve OC plates are fantastic, love mine as well. Nice thing about these razors is they share the same threading, I can put my regular brass handle on the Overlander head if I want, and vice versa, always nice to have options!
I've got a CB and was on the fence about the overlander. After watching this, I think I'm gonna pass on it. I'm sure it's a great razor but I find it hard to believe it could be much better than my CB. Great Video!
Thanks brother!! Yeah, it’s a tough call for sure, and if getting great shaves is it’s the CB, the Overlander isn’t much of a change… more geared towards shavers who want a more traditional angle and a set plate system. Have yourself a fantastic weekend!
Nice review JMac. I was expecting a bit more differences in efficiency but the proof is in the comparison. Glad both worked out great! Have a good one. Would you say the c plate is more efficient than the Overlander and a tad less smooth?
Thanks Ronnie! Yeah, it’s actually kinda hard to tell the efficiency by feel with the Overlander, the way the geometry of the head is designed it’s just soooo smooth, but it does do a great job of removing whiskers. I feel that it’s more efficient than the C plate, with less blade feel and being smoother… it really is that good, at least on my face.
Nice shave Jmac! I don't have these razors but it seems like you can't go wrong with either one. If I ever get a Karve, it'll probably be the Overlander 😎👍 Have a good one man! Steve
