25 years back we listened to this album at our D&D sessions a lot. After that time I lost contact to Ulver and their music. 5 years ago I went on a trip to norway and luckily discovered a "hidden" artist area with a concert hall and there was a poster for an Ulver concert coming up. To bad I left Oslo a few days before that concert. But with that discovery I started looking for what Ulver had made in the last years and I was absolut flashed by their music. Now I'm sitting here with my new born son and we're enjoying this album a lot. Me still and my son for his first time. Thank you Ulver!
So here you are bragging about how you used to be a D&D nerd but now you have a newborn son, as if you're saying to all the other nerds out there, "Ha ha, I actually touched a woman and had a kid with her, but you nerds will never be able to do that!" You make me sick.
I had the opposite experience. I am really into gothy 80's synth, electronica etc. And I got into Ulver via Assassination of Julius Cæsar. I started to look into them after listening to that album and was surprised to see they had black metal roots.
For anyone not Norwegian who are wondering what they are singing: 1-East of the sun and west of the moon: [Wiki:East of the sun and west of the moon] "East of the sun and west of the moon, you will never reach. This record brings back a lot of feelings. I used to listen to it in a time in which my health was at an all time low. And a serious relationship with someone I really loved was ending. It was a rough time. Now I am much better and I realize how much I have grown. It is beautiful how certain music can bring back feelings such as these ones and give peace and closure. Cheers everyone! Especially the ones that are on a bad path. Look up because things do get better.

the first 40 seconds took me on some next journey rowing through frozen fjords pondering my own mortality. Simply beautiful, so glad I've finally found out about these guys
What is this cold and warm feeling that runs through me every time I hear this beautiful piece of music? What is this reverie? I am Latinamerican, but when I hear Kveldssanger, I feel that I am standing on a summit of the Nord-Norge.
Just came back to this beauty, after many years. I fell in love with this record back in 1995, and it still sounds as brilliant 25 years later. Fantastic!
This album was my entrance to dark/neofolk. When i first listened to this i didn't even know that this kind of music exists. Changed my whole way of listening to music! Love it :)
When I heard "Capitel IV: Een Stemme Locker" on Bergtatt, I never thought that out of all the five songs that have a mixture of atmospheric folk music and black metal, that song broke away into a simple dark folk song. Now this album has expanded even more of what it represents beautifully.
All these years I never made the connection between Halling (a typical norwegian dance) and the second piece from Grieg's Symfoniske Danser Op 64. It's a lovely tribute.
I love black metal with a burning passion. recently picked up lords of chaos and have decided to listen to each album mentioned. so glad I did. and honestly I haven't got a clue as to why I never really gave ulver a good listen. this is just a masterpiece that reminicess my love for atmosphere in music such as anthems to the welkin at dusk one of my personal favorite albums of all times but shines it completely differently.
Esse álbum é maravilhoso. O Ulver me faz gostar de músicas assim Dark Folk, Neo Folk. E olhe que eu conheci a banda há alguns anos atrás como um som totalmente diferente, com uma vertente mais eletrônica, trip hop. Mas quando escutei esse álbum me apaixonei.

It's metal in meaning

Either this or Bergtatt.
Ro man Wolf and fear !
This and Bergtatt are equally good in different ways.
Reminds me a lot of Opeth's Morningrise at times... Truly beautiful. Thank you Ulver and the Internet!
I hear that too. Early Opeth definitely shares sonic qualities to this in their acoustic passages.
Yesssss I always think the very same thing... I can't find anything else that makes me feel like these two records
