Feeding My Family of 4 with $90 for the Week | Meal Planning and Grocery Shopping | ALDI Haul

- I went WAY over on my budget this week. I found a great deal on a whole turkey and simply couldn’t pass it up! Plus I bought several items that were not on my list, I decided to buy chicken and turkey in bulk to stock up instead of just buying what I needed for the week, and some of the prices were a little higher than I anticipated.
I originally wanted to spend $50 but I’ll have meat for next week so I should be able to spend less for next week’s shopping trip.
I’m making several recipes from the quick and thrifty cookbook I just got and I’m excited to share!
Here’s what I’m making:
Broiled Flounder
Chickpea Salad
Noodles in Peanut Sauce with Tofu
Burgers Diane - not sure what to serve on the side with this one
Chicken Stroganoff
Smashed Parmesan Potatoes with dipping sauce
TBD for the rest
I would love to know what y’all are making this week too!
NEW Updated meal planning journal that I use! Now with more inventory and notes pages: a.co/d/f5Z15yy
Thank you so much for watching today!

Laura

I don't think you buy a lot of junk at all! I really enjoy your recipes and learn a lot from you.
Thank you so much ☺️ and I’m so glad to hear that!
Everyone needs treats
I agree ☺️
Also, I don't think you buy a lot of junk food. You make most food for yourself so I think that the snacks and treats you buy are a great balance. I think people just like to complain or criticize the choices of others because they feel safe hidden behind the screen know? You do you. Plus you grow your own veggies and things and that is way more than most people do. Those who talk about any junk you buy need to go sit down somewhere. Their comments are not needed or necessary.
Thank you so much for your kind words ☺️ I truly appreciate that! You’re right, I definitely try to keep balance by making a lot from scratch and growing my own veggies when I can, but also keeping some easy snacks on hand too!
Totally agree. Don't let other peoples opinions bother you. An occasional snack is just fine
@@CHERIHarkness-ff2vi thank you ☺️ I think you’re right
Great deal on the turkey, I wouldn't have passed that up. Looking forward to seeing what you do with it down the road. You can get so many meals from one turkey.
As for the price on the chicken, did they explain / correct that?
Girl, if you want a bag of chips, get a bag of chips. With Aldi prices it is hardly what I would call an indulgence.
I'm working on using what is in my freezer and not adding to my 'freezer deal collection'. I have a list of 10 meals listed in my (your) book using nothing but freezer / pantry ingredients. That is money already spent, time to shop at home for me.
I might had to make a small grocery run for fresh veggies, but if I play my cards right I might go two weeks without going to the market.
Good job, Laura.
I just LOVE that you’re doing a freezer clean out! Those are some of my favorite meals because they force me to think outside the box haha.
The chicken was my error 😅 reading labels would have been helpful as the chicken in front of the price tag was actually leg meat, not thighs, so that was my mistake. I still got them at $2.49/lb anyway because that price isn’t terrible and it wasn’t a huge package.
I agree about the chips! The prices make it easier to enjoy a little treat here and there 😄 I adore those chips too haha
I watch your shopping videos all the time. You do NOT buy a lot of junk food. I can think of another You Tuber who does though....
Thank you so much! I could see how someone would think I do based on the last few weeks of holiday shopping 😅 we definitely bought lots of snacks last month haha
Love your videos Great hails and recipes, plus tips for us. We all need a few treats on occasion...i buy them as rewards. 😊
Thank you so much!! I do the same ☺️
You can also save the treats for when you have a once a week house cleaning day. When everybody gets their chores done, they get a treat. It could be pre-portioned chips in baggies or a portion of a giant candy bar. Sometimes I find purchasing chocolate in the giant sizes if cheaper and each child can have a few blocks.
I love that idea!!
You're like the queen of healthy cooking. Someones always gotta say something. Like theyve never eaten a twinkie orrrr maybe they need one 😂
Haha 😂 oh my goodness, maybe you’re right about that! And thank you!
I think you have a healthy balance with your food choices.
Thank you so much ☺️
I feel like you barely buy any junk. You buy tons of Whole Foods. It’s impressive!
Thank you so much! Some weeks are better than others 😅 I definitely buy more snacks and treats when someone comes with me lol
Good cook friend
Thank you so much!
Hello Laura, The price of eggs always goes up in the winter because it is a season where the hens slow down on laying eggs. Once it gets into spring the price will go down again. I hope this helps.
Thank you for letting me know! I’m glad it’s nothing more serious ☺️
I hope so I live in Ashburn GA and have only 1 grocery store so a dozen of eggs is $3.45
Just got a dozen in Michigan and they were .99! Go figure.
@@janmurphy9347 nice good deal.
@@karonwoods1583 3.45 wowza. I love eggs and at that point... you start weighing want over need and try to be creative with breakfasts and baking.
I definitely don't think you buy alot of junk food and some people need to mind their own grocery business
Thank you! I agree 😄
You definitely don’t buy alot of junk food at all! 😊🇨🇦🍁
Thank you 😄 I’ve been buying a lot of treats over the last few weeks for the holidays so I could see how someone might think that about me 😅
Thank you for a great shopping trip! I don’t know why someone would use a red onion or a white onion. I only buy the yellow! Is there a Flavor difference?
Yes! The yellow onions are my favorite because they’re sweeter and more mild than white onions. Red onions are sharp and crisp and they’re great raw in salads but lose their pretty color when cooked. I love to use them for burgers (especially turkey burgers) and Mediterranean dishes.
Good grief...no, you don't buy a lot of junk food! Some people need to keep their thoughts to themselves. I am a new subscriber and I've really been enjoying your channel. My kids are all grown and on their own. I love to see what meals you come up with!
Thank you so much! That’s so nice of you to say 😊 I’m so glad you’re enjoying my channel so far! I’m always trying to keep our meals interesting with new recipes 😄
What state do you live in?
California 😄
You don’t buy much junk food!
Thanks! I know I’ve bought more snacks recently due to the holidays haha 😅 so I could see how someone might think that
@@LauraLegge you feed your family such nutritious meals that a little snacking now and then doesn’t hurt 😉
@@carriejones1433 thank you so much 😄 you’re right!
You have the least amount of junk food omg.
Thanks! 😅 I’ve definitely been buying more treats the last few weeks for the holidays haha
@@LauraLegge but that’s your business and everyone does that not some nasty person like why even comment? That’s so sad that people can be so nasty.
@@stephanieschimek595 it’s definitely taught me to have a thick skin. I try not to let things like that bother me but it can be a challenge 😅
@@LauraLegge yes it is and your stronger than me!
