"Intelligent" dance music was rejected as a ridiculous and needlessly condescending term by everyone relevant 20 years ago. Just as I now reject "intelligent sequencer" for the same reason.
I think everyone can agree that naming music genres is a joke and taking issue with someone’s UA-cam video title even more so. so I ask you, what do you call the type of music we are both obviously referring to without using the still widely used title?
for some reason I think of braindance as a subgenre of IDM (maybe because the term came later). personally it brings to mind lo-fi Rephlex albums that have a level of funk/electro to them, using Roland gear. see also Cylob/RX-101.
The amount of time it takes to learn the workflow seems like nightmare. Not trying to be a dick but, is it worth it? It's like being blindfolded and forced to drive on the freeway. idk- to each their own.
I do have to refer to the manual to refresh like 1 or 2 combos when I have had a break but most combos are intuitive. the simplistic step sequencer and no screen is a nice change of pace actually. and when you need detailed info, the app shows more on the screen at once than a typical groovebox. somehow they packed some magic in this box. it’s definitely deeper than the sum if it’s parts. can start with simple 16 step loop, expand on it with step components and even get into generative territory. I don’t care for the limited sample and project memory. I back it up constantly so I don’t lose work. the buttons double-click and then your note is gone.
This was fantastic!!
thanx!
wow you really make good use of the sequence fx, this was really nice to watch :)
thanks, they were really fun to do live once I had the songs arrangement figured out.
