Yips are 90% mental 10% technique or proper action. Most of my students can overcome yips by learning proper action but then acquiring the mental side of conquering yips which is confidence in the proper action. The problem is most players can a acquire confidence on the range or practice green but when it comes to actual playing a round on the course or in a tournament they collapse back into yips mode. I prescribe no chipping or pitching practice unless it’s done on the course. Best time at end of day when course is practically empty and you can drop a shag bag of balls and practice on the course where the yips occur.
I have seen a lot of videos on chipping and none has mentioned your point on constant speed/ acceleration in the swing. I tried it today and it helped me so much. I will continue to keep this point in mind together with all your other points. Thank you !
I lost the ability to chip 20 years ago, and many lessons etc have, if anything, made the problem worse. I have recently started doing air shots, and probably hit 95% of chips fat (ball going 1 metre) or thin, frequently just touching the top of the ball. Practice swings are good, brushing the grass. I can’t understand the one extreme to another. Average scores have gone from 85ish to 105ish in the last 2-3 years. Any suggestions? Thanks!!
Hi John, I feel you pain and know exactly how you feel. If you are talking about a period of 20 years then there are no quick fixes that are going to give you any lasting improvement. Please drop me an email to getgolfing.ie@gmail.com and I'll explain further, thanks, Mark
I also have the yips, real yips, which in my case is an uncontrollable tremor in the hands. In my case the best technique has been to lock elbows to my side, slightly open stance minimum back and forward motion with forearms. I use almost the full set of clubs to adjust for the distance of the chip. I have found the claw grip most reliable for putting. I have become disillusioned with the professional advice, by and large. They always seem to think it’s to do with hesitancy or nerves, nonsense! I still have the tremor on the carpet at home!
@@getgolfingmarkheinemannpga7161 I been having a lot of trouble chipping/pitching off tight lies. I've been reading a lot about bounce but every time I try to hit a chip off a tight lie I don't hit it pure. Think I'm not using the bounce correctly and/or too much bounce is on the wedge.
Guess what I'm trying to say is what club do you use when chipping from the distance on your video and how many different clubs do you use from 10, 20, 30 yards etc. It would be great to add a video on chipping and how to calculate chipping ratios, how much in the air and how much roll etc or maybe you use just one club and go by feel. Thanks

This will lessen the effective bounce.

How to control distance and club selection ?
Which particular shot are you referring to Rich?
