I was looking for a used/new-ish Sony 85 1.8 when I came across your video. Didn’t know Yongnuo made one, and made one that was so good, for around half the price of the Sony! Probably gonna pull the trigger on the Yongnuo! Appreciate you!
Actually, when you showed the lens lineup at 5:20 I was amazed how the yongnuo 85 looks very similar to the sony 35 1.8. It just pairs very well to the a7c type of body. And being the 35 85 combo, You're pretty much all set!
I feel like the lens gives a nice soft vibe without sacrificing detail. Some shots are really dreamy without a promist filter. I'm a novice though so idk haha
Yes! I saw a video in 2020 on a Canon R6 with that lens. I think it was Patrick Tomasso, doing a blade runner style b roll video of Toronto at night. That lens is incredible. The new metal version looks sick, and I happen to need an 85mm, I was looking to get that one.
Dylan you must start making more portrait shootings witj thematic, like Pinup Stulw with retro cars etc, and maybe tell us about your favorite photogrpahers , etc
Hi Dylan, Awesome video! I know it may be slightly off topic but I narrowed my choice between the Sony 85 1.8 and the Samyang 85 1.4 G2.. what would you recommend for street photography (I know..controversial!)? My camera is an A7IV..
Hello Dylan! (A follower here) 🙂 Im gonna buy the AC7 1 or 2, but not sure which lens to buy for everyday carry. Not sure if take (body only) or with the FE 4-5.6/28-60 (that bring). The ones i was having in mind is 1. FE 4-5.6/28-60 (the one that bring ac7ii) 2. 50mm f/2.5 G (think its a new one) 3. FE 24mm F2.8G (saw it in your reviews) Im just a casual street/travel photographer who also likes dark scene photos. Any suggestions with your expertise with the AC7?
Have you considered the 40mm 2.5 G? It’s a pretty perfect EDC/street photography focal length that sounds perfect for your use case. Right there in between the 50mm and 24mm you mentioned and pretty dang close to 35mm which is my favorite focal length for just about everything
@@DylanBlackburn yeah. And I love it. I would have never paid any attention to it if Mark didn’t do the review. All of you guys with audiences have to keep letting people know about these hidden treasures. I would have assumed it was junk if I ever even came across it just because of the price and a name I never heard of.
Any lens can be used for whatever you want to use it for! 85mm is very common for portraits although normally I’m not a big fan of this focal length. It was a nice challenge for this video
Are you kidding me by saying it is not the best in sharpness ? Yongnuo is the sharpest 85mm lens tested by DXOmark. In the areas of sharpness, no 85mm lens can compete with yongnuo , not even sigma . But overall score, yongnuo 85mm still made it to the top after Nikor . You all like putting cheaper lenses in a box and praising more expensive lenses even when their performance is below the performance of the so-called budget lenses .
Good video man! The colors in the photos and the video are insane.
Thanks man!!
Hey that’s me
You should be in my videos more often

Good review! Love the colors. This focal length is next up on my purchase list and I'll have to add this lens to the potential pile. Thanks!

Great Video!! do you think this is still a good option today??

I’ll make that a goal to work on in 2024!
Where was that shoot? I love it!
Viltrox compare to yongnuo, which one is better
Great video. And seems a very good lens choice
Thanks! May consider adding it to my bag as a permanent addition…

It's hard to recommend the Samyang 85 1.4 for street photography due to the size. Definitely go with the Sony 85 1.8!
@@DylanBlackburn thank you!

I what is the best bang for the buck 85 for portraits? im looking at the sony 85 1.8 and the algorithm gods brought me to your video. TIA!
Ayeee! Just let me know if you want to borrow mine and try-before-you-buy!
@@DylanBlackburn Hell yeah man might take you up on that!
@@ramonlomeli624 just text me and lmk!
I bought that same lens on a Black Friday deal after watching a mark bennett video. I got it for $295. It’s worth every penny.
Now that’s a GOOD deal.

Hey! How would this do for car photography?
Might just stand a little farther back but the compression you can get for car shots would be priceless!
Hi, can I use this lens in sony ZVE10? (aps-c)
You can but keep in mind that it would be more like a 127mm focal length on that camera! I would recommend something like the Zeiss 55 1.8
Nice video and portraits! Is this lens only for portrait photography?

@@DylanBlackburn Thank you!
Dump the Sony grip and get the SmallRig grip.
I bought the Smallrig grip for a future video but I doubt I’ll be using it too often
nahhh mate the Sony 1.8 version of this lens is just better

@@MrFaccts dude I’m just sharing my experience. Chill out lol. I don’t even use expensive lenses so don’t put me in a box I don’t belong in.
@DylanBlackburn 😊I love your video, though.
