Thank you so much for putting this video together. Amazing summary. So glad that you are enjoying it and will be interested to hear your thoughts once you've had the chance to finish the campaign and experience all of the surprises along the way. Cheers!
I have a Question about breaking locations on big bosses, I’ve seen people do it different. When you break a location that has either a bite, tail or claw arrack so you lose a dice each time for those location or is it just one die total?
@@timboiv1821 If you break a location with one of those symbols under the dice then when the monster attacks, it’s stage may or may not have one of those symbols on it. If it does and you have the matching symbol showing on it’s encounter board then it loses one (and one only) of it’s highest might cards for its attack.
Thank you so much for this review/overview! I am currently painting the game and preparing the sessions. Your rules summaries are, as usual, excellent and really appreciated! Thank you so much!
Dropped you a 5 dollar donation, thanks for your guides. I used the ATO one and tipped then, now that I am using OS I dropped another. Appreciate the hard work. Happy board gaming friend!
Dang it Mr. Head! I was on the fence regarding this game, but after seeing your video and knowing that you have made a rules summary, I just must have it!
Stumbled upon your channel, which was fortunate. Great review and has pretty much convinced me to back it, but that will come down to its price. If I back it, I'll grab your summary and leave a much deserved donation. Looking forward to delving into your other content.
I went all-in on this game and it’s staggering! Amazing production value, fantastic story, great app with awesome narration, unique and well-sculpted characters (love the armoury), and exciting combat! Top game and a great review!
New subscriber, came across your channel after printing your handy reference guides for nemesis. Have to say it's well presented and expertly done. I've subscribed and look forward to your other content.
Thankyou Perry, it's a great pleasure to welcome you to the Esoteric Order! I'm on Twitter constantly (Facebook and Instagram too), and my website is constantly updated with new rules summaries and videos. Enjoy!
Changing up the gameplay cycle sounds like a good idea; I was trying to figure out how to paint the boss minis, and revealing them as a cliffhanger at the end of one session so we can fight them next time would really work out well.
Nice review! Small error: around 11:58 you show playing an item card into cooldown 1 and battleflowing the card that was already there - but items don’t cause battleflow. One thing you didn’t mention that I think is part of what makes this great is that you get to see the next stage card in advance. That makes it very tactical since you can plan ahead - except when there’s a reaction and you end up getting a different card for the encounter phase, or when you break a location that goes to the next stage. It’s a great combination of deterministic puzzle and unpredictability.
Yep, I spotted that but since my rules overview is so general I didn't think it was worth refilming. But that's a good point about the stage card. Also, of course, if you get a good story outcome, you get the opportunity to see the big bad's abilities before you choose your hand of ability cards for the battle.
There is going to be a second kickstarter for those interested.... its still a great game for those that own it, or those that don't. Thanks for the review, it matches all those other positive reviews out there for this game .... it really does sound like everyone agrees its a good game :-)
I’ve just received the my Kickstarter copy! Do you recall what paints you used for the ranger? I’m colourblind and am really struggling to decide what paints I should use for her. Thanks for uploading
🎵Well, the house is a rockin', don't bother knockin', Yeah, the house . . . 🎵 That darn shakin' shack distracted me through the whole video. Put a shim under it Peter!
Text on Shadowborne website: "Oathsworn: Into the Deepwood is a dark fantasy RPG miniatures game..." 🤣 To me, this one captures the spirit of an RPG more than anything I've played before. Actually I'm getting sent League of Dungeoneers, so I will be able to see for myself - though it does look more like a dungeoncrawler.
This game teally fell flat for me. The combat felt formulaic and dragged on forever and there werent any meaningful decisions to be made in the story section other than you make the combat phase easier or harder. It all looked and seemed a bit cooler than ot actually was for me.
Oh, I just can't disagree more - it's one of my favourite games ever. There are some HUGE cinematic moments in the combat encounter part of the game, and I find the story interesting, imaginative and well-written, with some interesting choices to be made. Maybe you didn't get in very far, or maybe we just have every different tastes in games, but I think it's an absolute winner.
You made a choice recently to venture into muddy politics, which made me unsubscribe, but your channel keeps popping up in my UA-cam stream, so you probably made the right choice, not to mention the similar taste we share in board games, but other than that, you got me to unsubscribe, full stop. You are, after all an actor in the social space, and mark me disappointed.
Well that's a strange comment. I have absolutely no idea what you're referring to, but if you wish to discuss it, I'm happy to. If you don't, I'm not able to address your concerns, whatever they are.
@@katarhall3047 I've spent the last ten years replying politely and kindly to almost every comment on UA-cam and social media, as anyone familiar with my channel knows. I was perfectly polite to you also until you called me a liar and a shill. Please don't play the aggrieved victim in this case.
This is not a company or a business, it's a channel where I work very hard for very little to bring my enthusiasm about games to people. This video took all my Sunday and the summary took days and days of work. Again, and I don't know why you refuse to believe me, getting a free copy didn't affect my opinion of the game. Would you only believe me if I was negative about it? I simply didn't talk about the price because that's an individual decision, one I'm not qualified to talk about as I got it for free. Why can't you accept that you were rude by accusing me of shilling? Do you accept any responsibility for that, or is it all my fault because I was a bit peeved that you did so? Do you know how frustrating it is for people to spend so much time on free content and have strangers pop up and accuse them of a lack of integrity? Please try to understand my point of view, and understand that I have worked very, very hard for years to contribute a lot to the gaming community.
@@EsotericOrderGamers I'm not too happy to go into details nor to prolong a vain venture into somebody's political views, may they be derivative and informed by mass media only, my sole point was to highlight your ad hoc comment that you are suddenly taking a stance now, that you will no longer tolerate a certain world vision and you are happy to sustain the damage, which is, of your ill informed (in my opinion) opinion.
Ah, I know what you mean now. I made a comment on Twitter 3 months ago: "Any apologist for the extreme right wing, misogyny, anti-LGBTQI+ or anything that tries to control other people's choices, gets blocked from now on." I also said around that time I was utterly disgusted by the decision in the US to overturn Roe v Wade. Well, I 100% stand by those comments.

I'm sorry, it was almost a year ago and I didn't record them.
I want it! But it's going for $1000 on eBay! Guess I'll wait for the reprint and hope it isn't crazy expensive.
Ouch! I'd definitely wait for that reprint. On Ebay someone is always trying it on.
Just play the Standees version. You will save place and have painted figures at the right time !
And fair enough too! 👍

Now my table isn't good enough! Will the pernickety demands of UA-cam viewers never end? 🤣
So, if I back the game now, when can I then espect to get it?
@@kristianmyrtuenielsen3388 You'll have to contact the publisher for that kind of information.
This game seems like it has some Gloomhaven themes too it, looks great 👍.
Can you play with more than 1 companion character, for solo play?
You need 4 characters, so if you're playing solo you'll have 3 companions. Check out my rules summary here: www.orderofgamers.com/games/oathsworn/
I thought this was a boss battler, not an RPG.. ;) I think the game as close to an RPG as it gets will be League of Dungeoneers...

Can you just play 4 companions and not bother with any Conan version of character?
Umm ... I suppose you could, here's nothing that expressly says you can't. But you'd be missing out on a lot of the enjoyment of the card play.
