Thanks...Yes, the destruction is terrible. Our largest freshwater lake evaporated yesterday and lava filled it instead. Green Lake in Kapoho. The GoPro was my secondary video camera mounted to the bottom of my mirrorless camera. Thanks for watching...
All those wide angle shots really help you understand the scale of the devastation. The flow itself is wider than I had known - like a huge river. Thanks - excellent video.
Thanks... Yeah, had to get the wide shots to help people see just how large that flow is. We estimated it at 1/4 mile wide based on landmarks. Thanks for watching...
sigh... i canceled my helicopter on 6/1 because the company made it very clear that there is no guarantee that people would see the eruption or any lava and sounded extremely skeptical. I don't blame them since they want to prevent bad reviews and set unrealistic expectations. I tried asking them what the 5/31 flight was like however, and they said they didn't know and that they can't tell me for sure. I wish I saw this sooner. I now regret canceling the flight, but thanks for taking this amazing footage for me to see what I missed!
Yeah, they have to say that because until they get out there at any given time you just don't know what the activity will be or the visibility too. I went back up on the 4th and will be going again on the 7th so, more video coming. I concentrated on still images on the 4th. Those will be posted on my website soon. That's too bad you canceled. I got rained out twice already. Glad you enjoyed my video. Have you seen my shorter 4k video with close-ups of the fountain? ua-cam.com/video/2EIt-N9OXcA/v-deo.html&lc=z23jz5qh2s2wcnwviacdp432y4uqmen5bhmf13tnwzdw03c010c.1528092921577141 Thanks for watching
Good question. You do smell the trees burning some but, that's it. The pilots do a great job keeping you out of the direct fumes. So, the route they take may not always be the best for photos or video but, they have to avoid certain areas for everyone's safety. Most of what you see are clouds that are many times created by the intense heat combined with upper-level moisture. Thanks for watching...
Incredible video! You really get a sense of how large this flow is. It's more like a lava flood. So sad for everyone who are losing their homes.
