Hi Grifs ,good morning to you. Just happened to watch your videos n im glad that you have done your homework well before coming to Singapore. The next hawker center that i would like to recommend is at Tampines street 11 , called the Round Market. It served many types of our local food at a reasonable price with a good portion n taste. But by the afternoon most of the stalls will be closed. So if you happens to be there, go early to avoid the crowds . The coffee are good too. There's a stall selling peanut, coconut and red bean pancake at a coffee shop adjacent to the hawker center. Its very popular stall with a long queue. Do not get it at the hawker center cos its vegetarian pancake n taste very different. Remember its at a coffee shop outside the hawker center . Enjoy yourself if you are there .
The pancakes, my favourite is the peanut pancake. It's crushed roasted peanuts and sugar. No peanut butter. :) I love it because the roasted peanuts elevate the taste of the pancake, unlike other flavours.
When it comes to food in Singapore, you are able to find very affordable food and very expensive food. Thank you for doing the research. Unlike some youtubers who went in search of Chilli Crab, ate at a restaurant in Little India and complained that Singapore is so expensive.
One Angmo woman when first stepped onto Singapore, said she's in the most expensive city. To self-fulling prophesize, she went to a cafe and came out mumbling, "$7.00 for a cup coffee ... very expensive". Wah Lao Eh! Go food court or hawker centre to drink lah! One dollar plus only. If you stay in a no-frill hotel, take the bus or MRT, eat at hawker centres or coffee shops* and buy your stuff at a supermarket, Singapore is not expensive. There're many tourist spots which are free. Do your homework before you come. *A coffee shop in SG in not like a cafe in the West. You can have a cup of coffee for $1.40 and wanton noodle or chicken rice for $4.00
Welcome to Singapore. If you are srill in sg, you should visit Old airport road and Chinatown smith street hawker too! Old airport road has yummy char siew at roast paradise, also you can try the soup version of prawn noodles!
When you were eating the char siu the best place to eat is over your left shoulder ...Joo Chiat Beef King .their brisket soup with yellow noodle is the best thing..the soup is the same master stock that has boiled for 50+ years..the soup is alive..you missed out.
I'm a Singaporean who had lived overseas such as Australia and I am truly shocked on why Singapore is the cosliest city. Sydney is worse. Singapore is cheap. Don't be fooled by some expar magazines who only patron expensive restaurants when they go on holidays
hi hi, thanks for the video. The last part of your video, to answer to your question - as to why is the coconut orange :) is cos the seller uses "red sugar" in the coconut mix. Red sugar is the one among the variation of sugar types that we can find in our asian groceries stalls.
Yes, the prawn mee hawker stall stated he would have to raise prices. But his prawn mee was worth more than $4, to me. I guess prices are going up everywhere in the world. Thank you for watching and commenting.
Yes the premium char siew would have been the better char siew and they sold out super fast. Tiong Bahru is a good option. Other hawker centres to visit includes Old Airport Road, Chinatown Complex, Bendemeer, Serangoon Gardens...
Hi Grif, Welcome to Singapore! :) Hope you enjoyed yourself. In Singapore, every Hawker Centre has its gems and misses. Generally, you can't go wrong. Regarding the orange coconut filling, the shredded coconut is mixed with an orange palm sugar and hence, its colour. If you get a chance to try out the local Indian fare known as Putu Mayam you will get that orange palm sugar too. Putu Mayam is like a patty of steamed rice noodles eaten with fresh coconut and orange palm sugar. Goes well with cofee and tea!
I travelled alone to SG and there's a famous brand called Ya Kun Kaya Toast that offers really nice and simple eggs and jam toast sandwich. Their coffee is unique because its 1/2 coffee 1/2 tea.
Hawker foods are cheap because they serve the locals ... as for tourists like you, you should go to touristy spots like Gardens by the Bay, Sentosa, MBS, etc and try getting your 3 meals there. You'll then realised why Singapore is THE most expensive city! Locals eat just 1 meals at these tourist spots and they have to tighten their belts for the whole week!
What rubbish u talking.. local go to local hawker which is why is not most expensive city in the world.. as u have said, locsl dont dine at tourist spot... why is the need to eat only 1 meal a day... full of s**t
The best way to gauge the cost of living is not to convert SGD to USD, use same dollar comparison e.g big mac or coke index and you will know how expensive this city is.

I'm a huge fan of roasted peanuts. I would eat these peanut pancakes for days...lol. Thanks for watching and commenting!

Nowadays ang mo are very cheapskate.
Try Ang Mo Kio hawker centre.
In ang mo kio hawker center most of the food are $3 or sometimes $1 (chee cheong fan) yam cake 2 for $1.60. You can come and try it. 👍🏻
Oh, thank you for the new hawker recommendation! Love chee cheong fan!
Thanks for showing us cool places and affordable food. Singapore is on my To to-do list..
Singapore is one of my favorite places to go for creating food videos.
Welcome to Singapore. If you are srill in sg, you should visit Old airport road and Chinatown smith street hawker too!

Thanks for the suggestions. Check out my prior episodes of SG. You'll find an episode of Old Airport Road. I really liked that hawker centre.

You ought to try squeezing the calamansi and then mix the chili into the fried Hokkien prawn noodles next time. You won’t regret it.
Thank you so much for the suggestion!
the food in singapore are cheaper than many places in the world . Good quality food. You can even find higher end eateries Michillin star as well
We definitely found many amazing hawker stalls selling very good quality food.
The pork chop and braise pork rice is one of the best in Singapore.
Was a very delicious curry plate.

@@grifsfoodandtravel - LOL enjoy
Im was here this morning.. generally food price increased 50c - 1... small bowl of fishball noodle was 3.50 and now 4... drink wise still reasonable..

Thank you so much for that information. Never knew there was an orange palm sugar. I'll be on the lookout for Putu Mayam.
We can be considered as an expensive city but not the world’s most expensive !
You are correct, I see that Zurich is tired with Singapore. Thank you for commenting.
My lunch I packed from a hawker centre (noodle /3-4 veggies) costs me S$3 .
Eating economically for lunch is a good thing. Hawker centres are the best!
Thank you for using the spoon the way it was intended to be used here in Asia. None of that 'forking' of rice, which pains me so much. LOL
A lot easier to pick up rice with a spoon...lol. Thanks for watching and you comment!

Food and public transport is cheap. But cars and housing are damn expensive
Yes, the prices of home and auto are crazy expensive.

It's call 鸳鸯 yuan yang, mix of coffee and tea. In hongkong its call yuanyong (Cantonese )

5 dollars Singapore you can eat in Malaysia for 5 plates of Pork Chop.
I need to go back to Malaysia. Thank you for watching and commenting!

Welcome to Singapore!❤🤩🤗
Thank you so much for the warm welcome!
Try Ang Mo kio hawker centre.
Thank you for the recommendation. Any specific stall I should try at Ang Mo Kio?
I could spend a month in Singapore just doing this.
It is a lot of fun visiting all the different hawker centres. I'll be back again to find some more hidden treasures.
Singapore is never expensive. Just what is your expectation. Sometimes I wonder if there is a campaign to discourage peoples from visiting?
Definitely a great place for top local food ❤
Oh yes, this hawker centre was rockin!
