    As long as you’re using vinyl with a thick enough backing paper and a standard point blade this is fine to do. If you have thinner backing paper and a sharper pointed needle it will tear through and break your blade.

    Glad I found you! EV's videos are excellent...I just placed my first order with you as a 'thank you' for the excellent information; well worth it...The tips (no mat & weed box) are a time/$$$ saver, but what I took away most is when you 're-positioned your image' right before the cut and that's exactly where it cuts; EASY! There are vids out there showing to open shapes and to re-size square(s) in the upper left corner along with the image so the image will not seat in the 'defaulted' upper left corner (to save product); worked, but a time waster!!...Thank you, and look forward do doing business with EV and viewing more videos...

    • @jjzinn3427
      @jjzinn3427 6 років тому +5

      If you are making a sign or a canvas you can set your weeding box in the software to the size of the canvas or sign and then fit your project within that box so you can determine proper sizing and spacing. The weeding box is also useful when you use your transfer tape to transfer to the canvas or sign because again you can properly line up your project.

    Do you always have to put a weeding box behind an image? If so, why? I haven't been doing that and it seems to be working okay. Just wondering! Thanks

      I always do but it is not necessary. I like that it gives nice clean lines to trim off and makes it easier to weed. Those nice straight lines also help line things up when applying the vinyl to your project.

    What do I do if my vinyl isn’t wide enough and doesn’t reach the edges to fit within the grooves? None of my vinyl is wide enough

      This works when the vinyl is wide enough to fit under both rollers. Otherwise, a mat is needed.

    Thanks for demonstrating...I have two projects I need done right now and I can't find either mat anywhere! LOL! I am a newbie and have a couple questions, please. 1. How does adding and attaching the square behind the text assist in the weeding process? I believe you said something like "...to make weeding easier...". 2. Would adding a box behind text be of any benefit when creating stencils? And lastly, totally different topic, 3. Can you give any suggestions or tips for applying the stencil material to rounded glass items for etching or painting? I am having a heck of a time getting the material to adhere thoroughly and the etching cream gets under it causing the lines to not be crisp and it is always where the glass curves. OK, that's all. I realize this video wasn't about stenciling, but you seem to know what you're doing, and you seem experienced, so I thought I'd ask. If you don't mind. Thank you!

      Hi Andrea, we're so glad that you found us. I just find it a lot easier to weed when I have that box. I don't have to but the piece out of the larger sheet before I start to weed or fight with large pieces of vinyl not falling back down on the already weeded images. It is also helpful with alignment. You can do your weeding box the same size as the project so that all the layers are easy to place. With stenciling it can be a little difficult on curved surfaces but I have found it a lot easier to apply the vinyl down if I start with the center and work my way out. You can either peel off a piece of the backing down the center and work your way out from there or just peel back half of it. Start smoothing on to the surface from the center and then to the edges. It also helps keep it straight on your project. Hopefully this helps. Let us know if you have any additional questions.

      Thanks EV for such a quick reply! I'm really new and I don't understand the box concept or layers...could you suggest some tutorials that you have published that cover basic topics such as layers and explanations of terms like detach or weld or do I need to save every project or...I could go on forever, LOL. I am finding that most of the instructional videos I have watched thus far are just not basic enough for beginners, even though the titles include "for beginners" or "basics". There seems to be an assumption that everyone watching has some basic kowledge...but we don't. heehee...if you have produced any such videos, would you please share the links? I would really, really appreciate it!

      Hi Andrea, Hopefully some of these will help.
      Here is a link to our Cricut Playlist. This will be a mix of basic and more but it does cover some of the terms - ua-cam.com/play/PL3ghl46Qz0pTWkbCBbQfBloYaOfVHz090.html
      This is good for basic overall terms associated with the machines and vinyl - ua-cam.com/video/_FUE9OHHBSs/v-deo.html
      And this one is kind of a beginners guide to vinyl. Hopefully it will help. ua-cam.com/play/PL3ghl46Qz0pRL1n53S5LLW7PedO48gJyx.html

    I recently got my pink Explore Air 2. I know nothing! Lol. I’m such a big crafter and can’t believe I didn’t have one before now.
    Why did you need the ‘box’ behind the letters? Going to try it now. Lol. TIA

    Hey,
    I tried using no mat but it would not pull the vinyl because it didn't reach both sides of the black rubber spinner. Any suggestions?

    I got a cricut for Christmas!! Yay!! Is there a way to bypass size restrictions & cut bigger than the mats? It seems that if you can cut without the matt then this should be possible. Obviously you can't cut any wider as the vinyl is 12" wide but I should be able to format my design to go length wise so that i can do a continuous cut. I have the cricut explore air 2

      Congrats on the new machine. You will love it. Unfortunately there is not a way to cut larger than the mats. However, I do have a video where I cover how to work with larger images. Hopefully that will help a bit.

    How did you set up your cut settings. Did you use any custom settings. If you did can you explain how you got the setting so you didn't cut through

    • @Expressionsvinyls
      @Expressionsvinyls  6 років тому

      Hi, I just used the Vinyl setting on the dial. On the machine that I use all the time that one worked great. That is a good place to start and then adjust up or down from there if it isn't quite right for you. Hopefully that helps.
