Continue to love the synergy of this group. Almost every time something is said that makes me go “but what about…” one of the others will chime in with the question or challenge to the statement. I look forward to this every week. Less so, the individual eps. I’d prefer the 3 of you 2-3 times a week. 😊
Can't wait till my boss can ask my laptop how productive i was.
Look up RPA, remote process automation, recall can eventually be a way to automate processes in the future and eliminate your job
Many companies already track this, but it’s flawed because they go by mouse movement and/or time spent with an application showing. For the poor souls subject to this management style, this is probably an improvement, as they aren’t being judged against people that have taped their mouse to their ceiling fan
For anyone coming back to get the list of cases Nilay referenced in the Open AI section
Tom Waits vs Frito Lay
Vanna White vs Samsung
MGM vs American Honda Motor
about the recall and your point about not being worse than the browser history, the history knows which sites you've visited, recall records *EVERYTHING* and *EVERY* information you input
so yeah, it's way worse
To Nilay's point about Sam getting back in charge after being ousted - that's evidence of him being popular, NOT evidence of him being smart. Him being a billionaire is ALSO NOT EVIDENCE of him being smart lol
He was ousted for being reckless, withholding information, failing to consider consequences, and being dishonest in his responses to queries... and proved it in this single moment.
He recklessly did something without permission, withheld information from the company he didn't have her permission, failed to consider what happen after they built it, paniced and tried to get permission AGAIN, still released it anyway consequences be damned, and then was immediately dishonest how it happened.
Nilay's point was that he is in control and not some rogue agent who can't be used to hold the entire company responsible.
Thank god! I need something to listen to while I’m working!!!
There is no God.
People banging their iPads finally will give us Bendgate😄
The point Alex brought up about the assumption that if someone else has access to my device and can login, the Recall feature is not what I'm worried about
Awesome Podcast guys .Thanks so much for sharing. 💯✌️
I would love for you guys to test SolidWorks and similar tools on these computers since those are an exclusive purchasing decision for Windows for many people. It’s also complex and old software that could run into issues
the reminder about ISP always scares me like y’all don’t need to that 💀
Can you have an actual privacy expert comment on Recall? I'm sure the Verge has one.
HAVE PEOPLE SEEN HER???? WHY ARE WE MAKING HER
was there something negative in the way a romantic human-AI relationship was portrayed in the movie? lol
I remember a product I read about that synced your Spotlight index to your phone via DropBox so you could search your Mac files from your phone (and maybe remote download files, I'm guessing but I can't really remember). I thought that was so cool but wasn't willing to sync that via DropBox for privacy reasons. But if there was a way to have it sync over wifi whenever I was home and it would update again whenever I'm back on my home wifi network, I totally would've done it. I still would. There are ways to do stuff like that that don't require any cloud at all; it just wouldn't be real time up to date all the time. The same could be done with Rewind history.
Did the team at Microsoft not know about the, “Don’t wait for the translation” -Adlai Stevenson to Valerian Zorin re: 09:59
The title is perfection ☠️
I remember the Microsoft Kin! There are dozens of us!!!
Great podcast. I have to disagree with Nilay discounting the effect if the new crop of Windows on Arm with AI have fans while competing with the M series MacBook Airs. I've owned Windows Intel laptops for over 15 years until 3 years ago when my last Windows 10 Lenovo Yoga died on me. I decided to give the M1 Macbook Air a try after all the positive articles and videos after reviewers had a chance to use it. The fact that Airs are as silent as my cell phone and my 10" Kindle tablet means I'm not buying another laptop with a fan.
well maybe I'm misunderstanding but it's just that some of them have fans. I don't think it's the biggest deal in the world if some have fans and some don't. that's just how the windows laptop market is ya know.
1:18:50 isn't this a bigger thing than people are making it
James Earl Jones is up there. Dwayne Johnson I could see as well. Beyoncé, Kevin Hart, Samuel L Jackson, Ryan Reynolds, Chris Hemsworth (as Thor)
Microsoft paint blocking certain drawings while Microsoft word allowing you to write anything i's very interesting to me. My assumption is that word isn't blocked due to freedom of speech. But wouldn't images being blocked violate freedom of expression? I know it's a product so they are allowed to do whatever they want I'm just wondering if that was the thought process.
I bought a Z Flip 5 last year and got the 50" Crystal 4k TV for free too in Europe
Is it bad? Yes. But is also great because it was free and I did not have a tv before
@@jo40vi😂 thank you for your honesty.
My free 50" Samsung TV comes in about 2 wks, because I bought the Frame TV. I think it's the same one. How bad is it?
@@Smellythiefit's what you would expect of a 4k TV given out for free... Front and center it looks ok, but you move to the side, and the colour gets pretty faded pretty quickly. Viewing angles are pretty bad. But honestly, after a few days, you get used to it
So glad there's chapters and I can skip over all the AI stuff.
I thought all the windows AI stuff are local? The fact that there is safeguard built in doesn’t mean it runs on cloud. Local models can also have all the censor
So happy to hear that the politicians are finally getting the memo about Ticketmaster. Maybe noone could get tickets to the Democratic and Republican national conventions.
I've been asking Gemini AI a number of practical questions and the accuracy has been very high.
1:27:16 Also "THIS IS CNN", you could have him say "THIS IS THE VERGECAST" lol
Bobby kotik should buy humane pin, I would love to watch a reality tv show about it.
Such a bizarre response to privacy concerns raised by consumers. Yes, we are already being tracked in copious ways-- but we shouldn't be. It's not like we can opt out of most of this stuff, so it's deflationary to suggest that corporations should just have carte blanch over our data. Nilay correctly pointed this mode of thinking out as a form of nihilism; that corporations are already harvesting massive amounts of data so we should just let them do it anyways? And the co-hosts just nod and move on like they weren't just making this argument.
I reject that framing. Privacy issues can always get worse. Our data is already being used in nefarious ways. Why in the world would you want to contribute to that or make it easier with AI stuff?
Yes. Also all these new models want to be opted out and make it very diffficult to do so...
Paul
More recently the George Carlin estate settled their lawsuit against a podcast that used an AI to impersonate Carlin without permission in breach of copyrights.
Michael Page poderia ter se tornado uma super estrela, nível hall da fama do UFC, se tivesse tido uma carreira melhor gerida.
1:17:46 salesforce
how do you even measure the ROI on AI in office and windows and stuff like that? it seems like vaporwave economics
You say “AI” enough times and share price goes up. Simple.
If you want to bridge the gap between AI and Creatives this was not the way to do it.
Meta might be interested in humane!
We should have mentioned them! But I think they are very happy with the ray bans
Nilay’s so hyper-focused on what GenAI is doing wrong right now. It won’t always be like this - however - I recommend ALL watch his interview with Sundar Pichai. He held his feet to the fire - even though it got a little over-nuanced. We need these CEOs to understand the real-world since the govt won’t regulate them.
Part of what they are doing wrong is swallowing up alot of copyrighted data without consent. Will that get better?
Are Boned and Screwed each autantonyms?
Saturday Samsung is great 😄

The Recall outrage is mostly because of the AI angle, folks are not happy with the way big tech has been monetizing these large-scale LLMs and AI-powered products.
So now, your entire life is just food for AGI, with little to no upside for consumers, and incredibly huge upside for all these corporations.
This case will never go to court. Open AI will settle it.
Takes two to settle
Samsung should buy Humane, and create a Bixby AI, and reshape the AI pin to look like a dog butler
Windows Phone 7 Series
I want more powerfull and efficient machines like phones, laptops with lower price. The reality is, because of ai, and strong push from OpenAI, all other companies lose their minds, and look for opportunities to just sell more products. I dont like this trend and way we are going.
Tom busy?
Morgan Freeman ?
YOLO
yahoo should buy hhumane
*now with MapQuest
unless you have crypto keys.
Can Alex please stop doing that ‘yeah!!!’ Grunt / moan whatever ! It’s very disturbing
YES finally someone talking about the KIN. phone of all time
