You should do a collab video with Trent Palmer. I’d be interested to see a CFI’s take on backcountry aviation and off-field landings, given how different it is from what you normally do.
Just talking about places I know and making me a little homesick. I was based at Centennial for 20 years. Nice to know Jean is still running a pilot shop there!
About 20 years ago I flew the Mooney M20R, and that was a very nice plane. I loved the digital HSI/RMI combo sitting in the heading indicator spot. Of course flying around here in Michigan the scenery is, "Oh look, another flat corn field."
"I just wanna be better tomorrow than I am today on everything." Words to live by! I wish I was in the USA to get the chance to hang out with you guys. Maybe some day!!!
You're killing me! I kept waiting for this, and then it gets released when I'm at work and can't watch! 🤣. It was worth the wait though! Absolutely amazing!
That's awesome that you're able to get a vacation and check out a new place and a new way of flying. M20E is one of my favorite aircraft and I hope to be able to get one someday. You'll have to make your way further out west one day. The Vegas area has some wonderful sigh-seeing areas that are easily accessible to pilots.
Absolutely love the denver area!! You guys should shoot the ILS 17L from ADANE at Springs! :D Gotta love a good DME arc! Hope you enjoy the Colorado area as much as I did!!
Every time you turn your camera towards a bed I expect to see Otto. Great video, hope the rest of your trip is enjoyable. Don’t eat the special brownies!
Great content as always. Considering my first pair of FE sunglasses, but which model should I go with? Have I missed a video about the different types (considering: Kestrel, Cooper Titanium or Kingfisher, first 2 prefered, more TopGun like ;-) )
Your videos are great and helped me out while I was learning to fly in Colorado Springs. P.S. I love my M20F and I just ordered a pair of Flying Eyes using your code.
Not sure I quite caught what sun glasses you were wearing? What were they again? I too get performance anxiety when shown a moonie by a mate. Also nightmares. Does Otto know you're playing around? Breathtaking scenery. Great vid!
Nice vid. Question for you: Any real benefit to blue tint vs rose tint for flying a lot? I have some ski goggles that are tinted to help avoid snow blindness but that's more for bright whites. I'm wondering what benefit rose/blue would have for flying. Thoughts?
Aw man! That's my playground in the 182 too! I'd be curious what day(s) this was since it kind of looks like a few weeks ago (aspens still golden) when I boogied over to KAEJ right over the Rampart Range to Elevenmile to Arkansas River Valley. I'm excited to see the next video to see how much mountain flying is discussed. Tyler seems like a good guy to fly with, I'd love to hang out with someone like that haha. Although I was nervous when he said you're the first CFI he's flown with since getting his license since you guys were going mountain flying...and it's generally recommended to take that mountain flying course/flight haha. Honestly, it's really just learning about leaning/DA concerns, flying by KIAS and not groundspeed, and knowing the wind effects on the leeward and windward side of mountains.
Do you have a turbo 182? I am thinking of a trip to Colorado but have a normally aspirated engine, though an upgrade to 280 HP. I have flown in the Idaho backcountry.
@@frankrosenbloom Nope, the club's 182 I use is normally aspirated as well and it has plenty of power. Anything over 200HP is pretty adequate here (depending on the time of day and DA and all the rest). Plus anything with a service ceiling over 14k feet usually lets you cheat a bit and just fly right over the highest passes anyway.
@@lonememe9674 I have dreams of taking my 182 into Telluride (in good weather). We shall see but I'm thinking next year looks good for a Colorado trip.
@@frankrosenbloom Definitely a great bucket-list airport to land at! Have fun! Here's a video I threw together of my first mountain flying trip with an instructor. ua-cam.com/video/h4YtMMMwhZQ/v-deo.html
Thank you! I had an amazing time with Lew. He's a truly genuine and awesome guy! I haven't re-watched, but if I said "since I got my license" I definitely misspoke! I meant since my last bi-annual which was just over a year ago. Thank you for the concern tho! You are right about that being concerning had it been the case.
@LEWDIX! Look man. Real awkward, but I bought a pair of flying eyes about 6 months ago using your code and absolutely loved them. Left them in the plane the other day and they’ve been acquired by someone else apparently now. I wanna get another pair but little strapped on cash with a baby coming. Tell me you can get me a discount code on top of your promo code and I’ll Venmo you the cash. I haven’t been the same pilot since.
Flying Eyes are designed, patented and produced by pilots and are the only glasses that are legitimately comfortable under headsets and helmets. Also, you'll definitely want polycarbonate instead of glass lenses so you don't have shards of glass in your eyes in the event of a bird strike or accident.
I find it interesting that you are so fascinated with the procedure of leaving Bravo airspace when your base airport is only 5 miles from a Bravo airport yourself. Can you make a video going in and out of MCO sometime? From what I understand, MCO is among the more accommodating Bravos for GA

That would be epic
yes please
A Mooney in the Mountains - what a novel idea ;)
Someone should start a youtube channel dedicated to just this idea....
Two good looking blokes in a plane flying around the mountains. How can this not be fun?!?
You’re very kind sir! Haha
Loved Tyler's humor.. can't wait for the next!
Yes, w the shoutout to Centennial (kapa) , my old home base! Safe and fun flying as always Lew and Tyler.
Love seeing Florida people come to Colorado, such a wonderful place to fly!
Just talking about places I know and making me a little homesick. I was based at Centennial for 20 years. Nice to know Jean is still running a pilot shop there!
Finally aviation channel with descent humour haha Subscribed!
Welcome to the channel.. I do things differently here 😉
Dude.. the cut to the turbulence is one of the most comical moments in aviation history.
😂
Awesome video! Flying eyes are my favorite sunglasses by far
About 20 years ago I flew the Mooney M20R, and that was a very nice plane. I loved the digital HSI/RMI combo sitting in the heading indicator spot. Of course flying around here in Michigan the scenery is, "Oh look, another flat corn field."
Same in florida but it.. “oh alligator… oh another.. and another”
That Johnson Bar gear is NO JOKE! Something about it that's satisfying but provides an awesome challenge. Great video Lewdix!!
Certainly a new experience for me.. pretty cool to see! Thanks man
Lovely flying! You two make a great couple. He might as well be Thor with that hammer tattoo he has. Can't wait to see more of this flying date!
Thanks for this video, It's great to see my home state on this channel! Welcome to the Denver skies!
Definitely loving the vlog style lately🤙🏻
Glad to hear it!

Well well well, this just gave me a jolt of energy for the weekend. Oh ya and nice flying.
12:30 Its "loo-ward" ... like loo-dix 🤣

I need to fly in the Denver area!
Man, I like that t-shirt!!!! I need that......
I fly around the Rocky’s all the time. And one of my first solo flight I hit 50 knot winds coming straight off the mountains.
It’s no joke!
Your video was the first one i watched today!!!
That’s what I like to hear!
I work full time at DEN and I drive by that ramp daily. I might have a fanboy moment if I see you on the ramp someday lol
😂 if you do ever see me then make sure you stop me and say hello!
Love me mountain flying! Aspen is a dream of mine. Gotta come to idaho and ill take you into some amazing airports! Stay safe!
Nice work as always… can’t wait to see that turbulence in the next video!!
Absolutely love the denver area!! You guys should shoot the ILS 17L from ADANE at Springs! :D Gotta love a good DME arc! Hope you enjoy the Colorado area as much as I did!!
The mountain flying is amazing but in terms of hotel room TV’s I think we spoiled you with that room in Fond du Lac!
The TV couldn’t have been better! Finally!
@@LewDixAviation that Fond du Lac trip still cracks me up "Hi Kids !!" Is that Archer ll still around?
@@chriszeitler4613 I do that weekly… In Walmart.. dressed up…

Can't wait to see day 2!

My favourites are the Kestrel Aviators and the Ospreys!
@@LewDixAviation And Kestrel and Cooper are more or less the same, but Coopers are wider, correct? :-)
Your videos are great and helped me out while I was learning to fly in Colorado Springs.

Fantastic! Thanks man!
ha, taking of from DIA in a Mooney, cool
Great video. Do you know the material use on your headliner…I’m in need of a restoration.
No worries mate! Just two friends flying "a boat"..... lmao
So what's the name of those sunglasses again?
Nobody knows
Glad that that density altitude didn’t bite ya.
EH YO YOUR BOI JUST SPILL THAT fuell sample on the tarmac !
The coffee* sample
Great Vlog Lew. Looking forward to the next. Do Flying eyes make prescription sunglasses?
They do! Check out their site
Not sure I quite caught what sun glasses you were wearing? What were they again? I too get performance anxiety when shown a moonie by a mate. Also nightmares. Does Otto know you're playing around? Breathtaking scenery. Great vid!
I think they were wearing Eying Flys.
Doesn't beat the Pennines no way not at all! Lancaster and Derwent Valley.
Love it awesome.

The rose tint are engineered for clarity while you fly. That’s not to say the others including the sapphire aren’t clear. They are all great.

I remember where the magic happens :D
😉
Can you show us the best way to become CFI?
What are you on about? We have mountains here. Just because they’re owned by Disney … 😏
I was just thinking that too. Isn't Splash Mountain the highest point on the topography map in Florida?
Welcome to the mile high!
@LEWDIX!

I remember the regional training video where the dude was in the bed lol

what size ipad do you use?
Kingsize obviously
Ummm Aviation 101 getting some competition going out west..
SO... Flying eyes VS Patriot SKY Sunglasses
Flying Eyes are designed, patented and produced by pilots and are the only glasses that are legitimately comfortable under headsets and helmets. Also, you'll definitely want polycarbonate instead of glass lenses so you don't have shards of glass in your eyes in the event of a bird strike or accident.
Didn't know Conor McGregor flew planes
And I would bet that those glasses are quite pricey and they probably don't have clip-ons for eyeglasses
They go one better. You can get prescription lenses with their frames and shades that attach by magnets.
I find it interesting that you are so fascinated with the procedure of leaving Bravo airspace when your base airport is only 5 miles from a Bravo airport yourself. Can you make a video going in and out of MCO sometime? From what I understand, MCO is among the more accommodating Bravos for GA

Not this time unfortunately 🤷🏼♂️😂
Wheres Otto tho?🛏
hahah I mean you are technically typed rated in a jet hahah
