Very enjoyable content, looking forward to more. I feel like you kind of only half did this experiment though. A lot of AR11 is also coming with dumb high OD, which imo is a very different learning experience than just giving enough time for eyes to adjust
What I said does make sense, if you have 300ms to read a note but you take 200ms to hit it, obviously you'll need faster reaction time to hit the note than if you have 300ms to hit the note but you only need like 50ms to snap onto it.@@mamifanboy1203
You just made me realize im playing way too much CS2. Like, not to dodge the screen going bright or whatever, just literally as an instinctual action. My brain just went "I cant turn away ingame, so better turn my head irl"
i would maybe suggest using lazer or mapediting if possible for tests like this in the future bc it makes it very easy to change the AR without raising the OD with hr
I was gonna take this as like a motivational video to try and learn ar 11 myself but when i saw that your base reaction time was 155 i arleady knew it was doomed
It‘s not my base reaction time. Later in the video I go to explain that my average during those 10 days was around 170-180. 155ms was what I got before those 10 days though (but it was a one-off occurrence). I think if you’re about my rank, then anything under 200ms will be fine and I’m pretty sure most gamers should be able to achieve that on good hardware. This is all just me bro-sciencing though. If AR11 is too daunting for you, you can also try AR10.87 first (AR7 + DTHR), which gives you 15ms more. It‘s probably the best introduction to high AR, as most of those maps are in the 4* range. In any case, don‘t let reaction time discourage you, there is so much more that goes into AR11. In the end, the only way to know for sure, is to try it out and see what happens :)
ar11 or any high ar in general becomes significantly easier whenever you develop your muscle memory with your area/sensitivity and you're able to snap to notes
as a 4 digit who suddenly learned Ar11, you kind of just pickup on the speed when you play high AR. One thing to note is 3mod AR11 is highly overweighted, so learning Ar11 will help a lot to farm.
You should honestly try doing the opposite. I feel really low ar is much the same as higher ar and at a certain point they seem to overlap. Yes, you see the circles early, but you have to sort them alongside the upcoming circles which takes a stupendous amount of training until you can do it consistently. I see people who play AR 0 much the same as people playing AR 11.
I really don't agree with a lot of things you said but I guess this is a decent video if you're like a super super beginner with ar11. Personally I learned ar11 to farm #1s and felt it to be more of a test of memorization and predicting patterns and rhythms (basically flashlight 2). It's a VERY motivating way to play the game because having #1s is obv cool as fuck, especially if you have zero at the moment like I did a few months ago. Also a lot of songs I like have low star maps that I wouldn't have touched otherwise, so ar11 gives it a unique challenge that doesn't make me feel bored. Though idk if newgen 5-6 digits are interested in that sort of thing. I personally would have focused more on the memorization and pattern predicting part of ar11 but I don't think you went for many FCs or high accuracy plays and focused more on learning pure reading so maybe I'm biased. Sytho mentioned how retry spamming helps a lot in his own ar11 guide and I completely agree since it allows you to understand map general map structures and develop muscle memory (like how triples are often on downbeats or building muscle memory to comfortably read and hit stacks while alting). Also I really wish you would have mentioned how much easier od6 with 3 mod is than od7+, od11 is absolutely brutal especially for beginners and I'd honestly tell anyone starting to just ignore any od11 maps.
I mean I did mention OD in the video as something I barely paid attention to. Regarding retry spamming, yeah, it was something that I was specifically trying to avoid, because I wanted to learn sightreading AR11. Retryspamming doesn't sound that fun to me. Ironically I did end up retry spamming cold green eyes however, so I guess there is that lol
@@ferryhmmye im pretty autistic so retrying hard maps for hours to get #1 is really enjoyable. It’s especially fun on maps with songs I like. Also it doesn’t make much sense, this retrying made me better at sightreading similar maps. Sytho said retrying “helps you apply muscle memory from one map to another” and at first I thought bruh that makes no sense but I finally get it now
I play HR in 6 digit tournaments so the ar is not reaching 11, but it really helped me with those 2 medals that require ar11, to be fair i think I just memorised the map over 500 attempts but still it feels good hitting those fast circles. The 120hz monitor definitely helps, it just feels better than my old 60hz one
A perfect example of how and why ar11 is so much easier to watch than to play is that people on osu droid are pushing ar11.3 even on 60fps and more input lag (around 100ms) because it is easier and faster to aim every note so they have a larger window to process it than on stable (good video btw I'm glad that there are some more high quality osu video creators out there with the rise of osu tiktokers/yt shorters)
AR11 is the combination of reading, fingercontrol and raw aim speed. You can react the circles easily in AR11 the aim and tap part is the difficult one, that is why your aim is not snappy Raw aim speed is needed when you don't memorize the map at all, since you have around 50-80ms (150-120ms reaction time) to aim the circle depending on your reading speed Fast fingercontrol adaptation is also coming from either the song or reading For example: if it's an obvious jump map you can predict the jump parts to tap them and you only have to focus on the aim part, or if you know the song you can predict the triples and bursts. Sidenote: Playing low bpm maps with low note density could be just followpoint reading, so I would recommend deleting the followpoints from your skin if you wan't to learn the AR11 circle reading. Overall the followpoint focused AR11 reading is a lot easier, since it has a longer appear time and appears lot earlier than the note itself. Overall, pretty good video and very good reading for a 6 digit player
Thank you! And yeah, I agree with pretty much everything you‘re saying. I actually touched on most of that stuff in the original script, but sadly had to cut it out, because otherwise the video would have been too long :/
BPM is also an important point to consider for high AR, low BPM AR11 is more painful to play than high BPM, because you dont know where to aim next and you lose the momentum when you stop
I actually mention this at 13:00! Though tbf, it‘s still kind of random, because there were some alt (low bpm) maps that I could play quite well on AR11 compared to higher bpm maps. BPM and AR is a super complicated thing, I might make a video on it in the future.
i have ~800 hours in ar11 and a pretty long time ago low bpm just became generally easier to read than high bpm(high bpm being harder on high sr maps). it's really only specific complex patterns and 1/6 notes that matter. high cs (7.8+) can give a similar feeling though, since there's much more unpredictable space.
As an 8kpp DT farmer who is close to 20 years old,I found that I can still rarely get under 220ms and my fastest try was 195ms(only that try was under 220ms). How dispiriting, bro
I wouldn‘t yet assume that playing osu! will increase your reaction time. Also, it might just boil down to hardware in your case. In the end, if you can still play high AR fine, it doesn‘t matter. Reaction time is a complicated topic.
As a 6 digit myself some maps don't feel like ar11 despite being ar11. An example being image material with DT when I play it with relax. I think circle size makes a difference because with the image material example with HR it makes it way faster to me.
Очень интересное исследование, которым я тоже хотел заняться , но увидел реальные результаты в стороне твоих попыток, и понял что на это может потребоваться месяц или более , очень крутое видео👍👍👍
Cool video. honestly i would recommend doing this test again when you're at LEAST high 5 digit, because this early on in the game you will see no difference no matter how much you practice the game. You truly need to get a feel for the game and a consistency needs to be achieved where you can comfortably aim and read almost any map before you can see any differences in reaction time. As an example, its like putting someone into a rocket league game for the first time and telling them they need to learn how to do something VERY mechanical ins the first month. They don't have the true experience to even properly learn a mechanic, so they most likely will have lackluster results. Again, come back to this idea when youre maybe 20-30k and see if there's newer results, im in full support of that idea
Lmao I’m by no means early in the game, I‘ve been playing since 2015 and have almost 1k hours haha In the end, while obviously I‘m not a proficient high-ar player and there is still so many areas I can still improve in, I just thought it would be fun to try. And yeah, I feel pretty comfortable maining 3-mod now. Obviously I still have a long way to go to be able to consistently set plays, but I‘m sure my mechanics will catch up. Even if it‘s gonna take a while, it‘s still fun as hell. And tbf being able to say, that I main 3-mod at my rank range is kinda cool :p
@@ferryhmm sorry for the assumption there, but yeah i’m happy to hear the comfort. Although i still think that a higher rank would make a world of difference, i am very impressed to hear you feel more comfort in 3 modding! Very cool
I think a much slower progression would work better. Like you play every 0.1 for a week, or until you feel 100% comfortable with it if it's going well. Maybe plan to take longer on the higher values since as you get closer to your limit, each step is effectively larger despite being 'only' 0.1 each time. But it's also very unfun to limit yourself to one thing for long periods of time. The point is to bridge the gap between comfortable play and stress play, I think you can only say you can properly read AR11 if it doesn't always hinder your aim and accuracy compared to an AR you're comfortable with.
@@ferryhmm not sure where in osu!lazer, but in std it's in gameplay settings iirc But yeah, since i use gamma regularly this setting is a life-saver lol
I don't know about lazer settings but at least on the current stable client, besides keeping the background dim at 100% during a break you can't hide the background at the start of a map (unless you change the background to full black in the song folder)
Yup. AR12 essentially means you only get 150ms to react, which I am 100% sure is humanly impossible. However, I am curious about what the human limit is. I estimate it to be somewhere around 11.3-11.5.
Definitely true and it‘s on my to-do list! Especially bc it‘s such a mechanics based game, it makes everything so easy to quantify. I wonder why it isn‘t more common
Bro, in the future, if possible, attach manual subtitles to the video. In any country where English is not a native language, many people find it difficult to perceive it by ear. Especially if a person's diction is not perfectly set, as well as if his recording was made on a low-quality microphone. In addition, with the UA-cam function for auto-translation of subtitles, it will be very easy for those who do not know English well to watch the video, but it will work well only in the case of manual subtitles. Because he does not create automatic ones correctly. This is a little advice for the future. Overall, the video is good and useful. Have a good game and a successful career!
HR is hella difficult, bc it also increases the OD and HP. You could try playing AR10 no-mod by adjusting the AR directly with lazer. I’m sure that everyone can learn AR10, just gotta practice.
I was talking quite a bit slower in my older vids, but tbh I feel more comfortable talking a bit faster and it also makes for better pacing of the vid (it‘s already +14min long and would have probably been +20min if I talked slower). I will try to put more effort into talking more clearly though!
i dont think anyone should brute force ar11 when this low ranked/solely play it when i hit 8kpp i solely played it and even after I stopped playing it for over a year I could still only aim ar10.7+ everythingg else is too dense even when i got way worse at reading ar11
Anything below 10.7 being too dense is kinda insane. I actually had something similar with AR9, where it suddenly started feeling like AR8 after these 10 days (though it has "only" been 10 days). I could still play it just fine though. Also having to relearn AR9 does sound kinda fun to me, so I honestly wouldn't mind it that much xD

AR11 is the combination of reading, fingercontrol and raw aim speed.
You can react the circles easily in AR11 the aim and tap part is the difficult one, that is why your aim is not snappy
Raw aim speed is needed when you don't memorize the map at all, since you have around 50-80ms (150-120ms reaction time) to aim the circle depending on your reading speed
Fast fingercontrol adaptation is also coming from either the song or reading

@@ferryhmm Thanks!!!!!
osu needs more experiments
Definitely true and it‘s on my to-do list!
Especially bc it‘s such a mechanics based game, it makes everything so easy to quantify. I wonder why it isn‘t more common
@@ferryhmm yep, a lot of potential content especially stuff regarding improvement
Have a good game and a successful career!
me being dogshit at anything above AR 10, this might be the video for me
You can do it!
@@ferryhmm bros better than me fr
underrated
Als Deutscher ist das sehr gutes Englisch !
Habe letztens mit dem game angefangen bin jetzt irgendwie Platz 1,5M nach 20h 💀

next do slowly from reading ar 9 to ar 4 😎👽
Believe it or not, it‘s actually on my list of ideas! :D (more specifically learning EZ)
@@ferryhmm wow :0 i didnt expect that and good luck on the grind for ez and low ar idea :p
i cant even read ar10 and i want to hr :c
HR is hella difficult, bc it also increases the OD and HP. You could try playing AR10 no-mod by adjusting the AR directly with lazer. I’m sure that everyone can learn AR10, just gotta practice.
@@ferryhmm i mean for me hr is like the perfect mode its only the ar i dont like
hiii what's the map on 10.6 ar ive been looking for this song since forever T-T
Watching the video with 0.75x makes everything sounds normal. I think you should experiment with slwoing down your voice a bit
I was talking quite a bit slower in my older vids, but tbh I feel more comfortable talking a bit faster and it also makes for better pacing of the vid (it‘s already +14min long and would have probably been +20min if I talked slower). I will try to put more effort into talking more clearly though!
can we multi? i exclusively play 3mod too and would like to practice with someone 🙂
If you join my discord server, I might host a multi there, but other than that I am very short on time :(
What is your monitor? I lose all my high AR reading skill after every session and have to warmup at least 30 minutes before I can set ok scores
bros rly dont know bout cookiezi caffeine fighter 99% 3mod choke in 2017... (or 16 i dont remember)
Bro had the rafis skin buff
i dont think anyone should brute force ar11 when this low ranked/solely play it when i hit 8kpp i solely played it and even after I stopped playing it for over a year I could still only aim ar10.7+ everythingg else is too dense even when i got way worse at reading ar11
Instead of learning AR11 on slow maps, I think you just learn high bpm and speed and then it would be easier to play with higher AR
good video
Nice video, although maybe talk a bit slower since some of your speaking was a bit difficult to understand, but overall nice video 👍
Good video!! But HOLY SHIT i dunno if im slow rn cuz of sleep but you talk a -bit- too quick at some parts
great video and well edited, but damn bro you talk fast
i cant read below ar 10
Damn
i think you talk wayyy too fast but its still understandable. i really like overanalysing osu. I'd love to watch more "reasearching of osu" like what you do in this video. Very interesting nice video.
ar is just mania scroll speed but not fixed 💀
Anyone know why i can read ar 11 better on 60hz than 144hz? I have to use gamma on 144hz to read it properly
i'm not an expert but from my experience i think an IPS panel is very important. every monitor i've played on that had an IPS panel felt much better than my monitor with a VA panel.
I learned AR11.5 with DT HD in 3 days.
Get on my level G'
Sorry for the trouble. But WHAT is that skin. It looks sooooo nice man.
Boop v2. Cleanest skin out there imo
i zoned out, you speak hella fast
Ok but AR10 on a fast map is harder than AR11 on a 2 star map
HELLO ITS ME SHIQNY MAN I NEVER EXPECTED YOU HERE LMAO
SHIQNY
wait wait wait slow down 😭
What's the skin you're using?
Boop v2
@@ferryhmm thank you sir, nice video btw!
Thats a bad misconception, you dont need fast reaction time, just reading a rhythm sense.
dude wtf happened to your aim 8:00 in
Yeah, that was cursed af lmao
German guy 🥷✌🏽
bro's got parkinsons 💀
Do you play eroge? Yeah
Im ngl I had to google what that is. Still no idea what you're trying to say though
@@ferryhmm in the cookiezi interview they ask him if he plays them and he answers so nonchalantly it made me chuckle
OH LMAO
Next time do +0.1 AR per week, you kind of inprove it
