I love Mary's face when she sees Cas and Dean love. And Dean's voice when he says, "this is Castiel." It feels like someone introducing their partner to their parent for the first time. (And y'all don't have to feel that way, that's just what I think, so please don't get nasty.). Dean breaking that phone was badass, and I love Sam in this episode as well.
I'm more into the 'platonic love' Destiel but I totally thought the same thing when I saw Mary's reaction. Not a lot of 'real men' hugging or displaying affection with each other in the 60s-70s. I think Dean described some of the unhealthy expectations of men and 'manliness' very well when he told Sam he needed to push his anger down and "let it out in bouts of violence and alcoholism", rather than finding a way to actually deal with it. That character trait always bites him any time Cas or someone else 'disappoints' him. All the time he wastes being mad at poor Cas when he should have forgiven him and moved on like he's done so many times before with Sam! I loved the little Sam/Cas arc in season 9 where Cas relates to Sam that "The only person who has screwed up more consistently than you, is me", and how urgent Cas is to find Sam this episode, although maybe he's just afraid of failing Dean again because Cas was asked to look after him before Sam disappeared. Those 2 really can't catch a break!
So wait I could be completely wrong here but I feel like this is the third premier in a row with Sam physically suffering? Season 9 he was in a coma and dying, season 10 he got tortured by Cole Trenton and last season he got that darkness sickness
That's because we always get to see how Mama Dean will fix or deal with it , although Sam fixed himself S11, kind of a first, and I'm not sure if I would consider his brief encounter with Cole at the same level as the others. (I wonder how much Jareds shoulder surgery affected early S10 episodes). I feel like the main arc with them is Dean looking after Sam while he grows up so ample opportunities must be provided. Dean has gone through a lot but some things never change. Also Dean considered Sam dead and being tortured in Lucifers cage the S6 pilot (which is partially correct), and the S7 pilot Sam is suffering from crippling PTSD, so you are very correct in that a lot of pilots start that way. (I'll leave any future episodes out of it for now for the sake of spoilers).
I feel really bad for Sam. He has no clue that Dean survived his encounter with Amara. He thinks his brother is dead and that no one is looking for him. And yet, he keeps his cool and presents a strong facade to the Brits.
I was kinda looking forward to see your reaction to the rest of Mary seeing Baby again-scene, since it's kinda iconic and hilarious, and apparently improvised. :D But it was great to experience this episode again through your eyes, and I'm excited to know how you'll feel about the rest of the season. It is such a rollercoaster and has a few of my favorite episodes in this whole series. Thank you for this.
I love that they pulled much of the story back to a more human level this season, enjoyed the Brit arc, and a lot of the character arcs. There's a good lead into Season 13 (which I also enjoyed) and based on some of your comments so far I think there are some aspects that you will really enjoy. There is an attempt at a Young Adult style spinoff pilot this season, that's all I'm gonna say.
I've wondered if I was cold to this season because I had too much time to build up all the stories we could have before it got started. It'll be interesting to see your reactions.
The first time I watched through seasons 12 to 15 I didn't like them nearly as much as I did watching them again 3 years later, I picked up on things quite a bit differently. There are still a few dud episodes but overall I enjoyed the character arcs a lot more. They can be a bit difficult to binge watch though.
Yeah, BMOL may have kept their country safe since '65 but I always wanted to point out to her they're pretty much an ISLAND that (including Scotland and Wales) is about the size of just one of our STATES (TX). Tell us you've protected all of Europe and then maybe we'll be impressed. 🤨 Also, "You're just an accent in a pantsuit" is one of my favorite Sam put downs of all time. 😁
Haha, Sam is a lot more sassy when Dean's not around to look out for him. And THANK YOU for pointing out that protecting an Island is a far different scenario than a huge landmass with multiple borders, large unpopulated regions, and endless coastlines. I do think North America could use some sort of supernatural organization though.
As Season 11 felt like a combination of different previous seasons rolled into one , Season 12 felt like the fallout of all the previous seasons.. Anyway I'll see what your take is on Season 12..

this season is super unliked by fans and i seriously never understood it. besides a couple things it’s actually one of my favorites, however this season does include the worst episode of the show so have fun with that

I'm with you^.^ I stopped watching the show somewhere in season 11, and didn't pick it back up until just before season 15 started airing. I remember thinking when I watched this episode for the first time "Dang! Had I just kept going a little longer, I would've gotten to this episode and probably stayed watching..."
Yeah I can't stand the British men of letters to me there not good protagonist the only human villain that was great was Gordon from seasons 2 and 3 sterling k brown was great in the role
@@angelaholmes8888 I miss villains like Gordon. Like minor ones that were nowhere near as dangerous as the main villain but appeared in several episodes/seasons doing their own thing. Plus Gordon was one of the few villains who had a personal rivalry with Sam and I loved that kind of story arc
I didn't care for it one way or another the first time I watched it but when I watched it again 3 years later I loved it. I liked the Brit storyline because of how it personally affected the Winchesters (particularly Sam), and the American Hunters in general and how it pulled things back to a more early series level so they could build up again. This Season really showcased how Sam has grown and changed since the beginning of the series, and 13 carries all of that over and more. Maybe give it another chance someday.

Ehh... This season, for me, isn't the best season but with some solid I mean SOLID episodes.

Not my favorite season and I hate Sam being tortured. I hate the British men of letters. They are what I dislike about this season.
