Although I like the advice of programming your radio with your county and the county immediately WSW, I will say this: I've seen storms come out of the northwest and west before. Always be prepared for that.
Is there anyway to turn down the alarm? It's extremely loud and I live in an apartment complex with thin walls. I want to still hear it but not wake up the complex.
www.nrcs.usda.gov/wps/portal/nrcs/detail/national/home/?cid=nrcs143_013697 This should help. Put a 0 followed by the 5 digit code that shows next to your county.
I need to know something...... My Midland WR120B is FULLY PROGRAMMED for my location, its set for all alerts and Voice alert...... Yet it won't go off. The Weather feature is on. I don't get it. Edit: Its fine now. I love leaving it on on Wednesday (Required Weekly Test day) and i left it on during Tornado Drill day.
you are lucky. mine is TOO DAMN LOUD and the volume button does not quiet the LOUD OBNOXIOUS BEEPS. I'll just watch the trees and news. I never needed a noisy piece of junk like this
@abc try turning it to Display only alerts after going to Menu > Alert Type :) If i remember correctly it should just show the alert on the display and flash the corresponding alert light with no obnoxious noise!!
Is it normal for the NOAA icon to be blinking? When I programmed mine I just got a few days ago there was a list of counties to select from. So I hope it will go off when a warning comes up for my county.
Lynne Wilson You can simply overwrite the previous county code. Also, make sure to use the correct frequency to receive NOAA weather alerts and a forecast for areas near you. Be safe.
Yes. You can hit any button while an alert is playing. But generally at the end of a message, you’ll hear an end of message (EOM) tone which is a coded signal that tells the radio to automatically shut off. Here’s how it works: Thr NWS sends out a header code that tells the radio the event type, locations impacted, and how long the event is. If your county is in that header code, that will set the alarm off and the radio will show you the alert and play the message. Afterwards, the EOM signal tells the radio to turn off, but the alert will be visible on the screen until it expires. Hope this helps.
That’s not necessary. You would know if a storm is heading your way only with a single county. If too many codes are entered, this might actually desensitize you and you may fall victim to alarm fatigue, ignoring alarms because you assume that it’s not really that bad. A single county is enough.
My weather radio was suppose to go off because of a Winter WindShield Advisory. But Only My dad's Weather Radio app did.... Not the physical Weather Radio.
I want one of these, but at the same time I don't because I am afraid of EAS tones and loud sounds. But I want one so I can look at alerts and mess around with stuff..
Believe it or not, there are two models of the WR120. If you have the original version, the only event you can turn on or off is the weekly test which is usually conducted on Wednesdays. All other alerts cannot be turned off. However, if you have the WR120EZ, you can turn off things like winter weather alerts, thunderstorm warnings, and flood alerts. The only exception is any emergency alerts that present a significant danger to the point where FCC prohibits changing. For example, tornado warnings, like you said, tsunamis, earthquakes, and other larger scale events. So depending on what model you have you can customize the alerts it allows you to. Does that help?
Nancy Brackeen That means either (1) You aren’t getting a good signal or (2) Your radio has not received an alert for ten days. If you unplug it and remove the batteries, that should work, but you still have to re-set the time.
Go to Menu, scroll down to Weekly Test, then hit select. To toggle it on and off, hit the up or down arrows, then hit select. Each Wednesday, the NWS will send a EAS header code with [Preamble] ZCZC-WXR-RWT-PSSCCC+0030. The radio will decode that and set the alarm off if you have it on.
No date on this video. The Midland WR120 I bought was totally different. The same maker and same model are completely different from each other in programming.
This is the original WR120 from 2011, this video is so old that the radio in this video might actually be a near final prototype of the WR120. The WR120EZ which came out around 2016, has different programming options

19 DAYS LATER I BOUGHT ONE YASSSSS FOR 5$ AT A YARD SALEEEE!!👍👍😽
That's super cheap. Even Amazon has it more expensive as that.
I bought mine from Walmart for $32.00!
lil kitten hey I also bought one at a yard sale for $5 right when I was about to spend $40 on a new one
I saw this a day before Christmas, and was like "me too!"
Got one for Christmas. WR120EZ.

Jeremy Lewis if your weather alert is going off, maybe the complex should wake up
Tape the speaker. The alarm volume won't be as loud.
I have just adjusted to the loud alarm so I don't have to tape the speaker
Try either putting a small pillow or a shirt or 2. No joke.
@@noeisdas8055 GREAT SOLUTION FOR THIS PIECE OF CRAP
Yes, you can set on/off for every type of warning and watch other than tornado warning, which is on by default and you are not able to turn off.
It has really changed. Now you can just pick from counties in a list. It also responds the end of message signal.
Hello! I am Tristan, a NOAA and EAS enthusiast. I have a question regarding your raidos.
When will your next main radio come out? Thanks.
No Im Tristan
im getting a midland radio im starting a new hobby with weather!!
we have the same hobbies lol (gd and weather/eas)
This was pretty much my first weather radio! Now I have 7 radios! I’m a newbie
Same, this is my first weather radio. I’m planning for my next radio to be the Sangean CL-100.
storms come way more commonly in the west than west south west

Louisville's National Weather Service office sets off the weather alert on Tuesday evening at 6:00 pm and Wednesday morning at 11:00 am every week.
Yes. Most, if not all, NWS offices are required by the FCC to conduct a Required Weekly Test (RWT). Most do it on Wednesdays, with a few exceptions.
Is it normal for the NOAA icon to be blinking? When I programmed mine I just got a few days ago there was a list of counties to select from. So I hope it will go off when a warning comes up for my county.

It is not normal; you need better reception, try placing it by a window.

When the alarm goes off & you are aware, is there a way to turn off the station, w/o disabling the radio, in case of further alerts?

Thank you for the info. I will like the Facebook page! :D
What does it mean when all the lights are flashing?
It means that your weather radio has not been alerted for 10 days and will say bad reception every 10 minutes
My weather radio was suppose to go off because of a Winter WindShield Advisory. But Only My dad's Weather Radio app did.... Not the physical Weather Radio.
Winter weather advisories are not tone alerted so weather radios don't activate for them.

There’s a “display” option where it’ll only show the alert scroll and the light for advisory, watch, or warning will go on. No audio will play.
