I'm surprised you didn't say anything about that accident that nearly (?) happened around 1:13 -- you could hear the tires squealing as the truck tried to come to a stop.
He took the berm, grass to miss the rear ending, it would've been bad at that speed!!
Idiots like that are why I quit riding motorcycles on the road, probably messing with cell phone or the fancy nav screen. Happens way too often.
i hope the truck pulling the trailor (by the gas station) stoped before it hit the other truck or ditch , nice stop been there seen that bought the tee shirt . we do vacation in the blackhills every year and the badlands are allways a stop on the way home :)
1:10 Russ you just about got to film a wreck. The guy in the white truck had stopped to turn left into that gas station, the guy in the black truck didn’t notice until it was almost too late he had that 5th wheel trailer all locked up you can hear tires squealing. Looked like he was headed off the road to avoid rear-ending the white truck, looked like quite a drop off into that field. Just wondering if you saw it in your rear view mirror, you must have heard the tires squealing.

make sure you stop in the saloon in the 1880 town and have a cold one and have your picture taken

I have been there once. Amazing little farm museum showing the home and tools typical of a farm of the day. Worth seeing.

What a cool place. I can't imagine dirt floors in the bedroom. I could here the parie dogs .
So very good to see this ... I have ancestors who were from Norway ... they arrived in South Dakota in the early 1870's .... they were sod-busters!!! They were farmers and eventually able to build a home, but, absolutely.... their first house was of sod!!!
My ex-husband's family came from Norway about the same time and settled in Minnesota. His grandfather, two brothers and a couple of cousins moved to Western Washington and homesteaded. His grandmother was a mail order bride from Norway in about 1910.
@@MaryB-ps8lg Small world.... my dad's mother, a descendant of those Norwegians, wound up in St. Paul, MN -- severe cold during the winters -- I guess they liked it because if was like their Norway home!! My sister lives in Western Washington -- I've done a lot of travelling there ... so much interesting and dynamic geology to see in Washington -- both the western region and the eastern region -- the Palouse!

Wow. What an example of a couple of troupers. Commute to work was a breeze. The Mrs...must have been one tough cookie.
I loved hearing the barks of the prairie dogs warning each other of the intruders. Reminded me of the remains of the Ingalls home in Walnut Grove, MN. For those too young to remember, Laura Ingalls Wilder wrote the series "Little House on the Prairie". You always take us to great places Russ. Thanks.
Prairie dogs carry plague, which killed millions of people during the Dark Ages. Not a good idea to touch them or come anywhere close to them.

We did some awesome vlogging in South Dakota a few years ago. One of our favorite states for sure!! Badlands area is incredible!! I could vacation in that area every year or two for sure.

What surprises me is how similar the old homesteads (farmhouses) here in Australia are to those in the US. Many of the items seen in this homestead were also common in the Australian ones.
We just now got back from SD. Beautiful country. Russ, don't go on Needles Hwy. It scared my husband and I badly.
The Prairie Dogs were cute. Loved the 'lil fella sticking his head up out of the hole for RVerTV. Enjoyed seeing the Homestead. It's interesting to see how different families lived. Really nice aerial view of the Prairies.
Those cute little prairie dogs are nasty little vermin they're disease carriers of the bubonic plague and other nasty stuff

Hey Russ, good video on the Prairie Homestead. I wonder what the Prairie Dogs eat if there is a drought in progress. I noticed that there was a dirt floor in the homestead. I wonder how the floor isn't potted with Prearie Dog holes. Thanks for the videos.
You didn't edit the truck and flatbed trailer had to take the barrow pit as you went past the gas station quit interesting
So Mr. Brown eaked out a living as a farmer? Who would he have sold his produce to? It doesn't seem like there were many people around.
He would have taken his wheat and livestock to the railroad. The rail wasn't too far. It ran from Rapid city to Sioux falls, the west half now abandoned.

Cute homestead. I bet todays generation couldn't survive this type of lifestyle with no electricity, TV. Internet, radio, smartphone, no running water they would go bonkers. People back then were hearty.

My friends help kill them on some farm. Lands because they cause a lot problem for the life stock
