This is an amazing animation, but a small improvement I feel could be the queen dropping at the end being a blue one, putting the pink king in checkmate, it would fit with the chess theme
Ah, but considering the song’s title mentions a Usurper, which usually means a person taking power over something from someone else illegally, it still does kind of make sense since everybody knows the Queen absolutely kicks the king’s ass in chess even if the king is supposedly the most important piece
I’d play this, along side every other level. They should hire you to help them make dlc for the game. “Just Shapes and Beats: The Boss Expansion” either way, love the levels and please keep up the good work!!

I FINALLY BOUGHT JUST SHAPES AND BEATS ON THE NINTENDO SWITCH!! (a few days ago). i'm kinda stuck on "close to me"... but i'll keep trying!
Wow. Just wow. As an avid chess player I LOVED THIS LEVEL. Everything was perfect. The attacks, the references, even the ending where the king dies to the queen. Honestly this might be my favorite (its up there with last tile) I give this animation... 11/10!
Yeah but again The Spider Dance Boss can Create several Hundred Spiders and Create several Webs at once and La dance macabre can replicate shadow clone justu and throw spinning scythes like a boomerang
So the lore is: your playing chess with wicked then you were checkmate when the king started moving and growing in size it seemed like wicked SOMEHOW corrupted him then the other chess pieces started to move as well even yours too but your queen was strong enough to hold the corruption for sime time and then he started doing more and more attacks and the pieces started to clone and then you were close because the king had a big castle so you ran for your life Until your queen only had some seconds to save you and saved you in time,then said wicked "Well i didnt expect you to survive but you know were gonna meet again right?" Then under a blink of an eye he was gone and all the chess peices were broken.
During all of this, I was making ties to chess & Shovel Knight since that's where the original song comes from. The king obviously being King Knight, with the pawns/bishops being the goons of Pridemoor Keep. The knights act as the Griffoths, and the rooks being King Knight's fanfare horns/chariot/Pridemoor Keep itself. And lastly, the queen at the end representing the Enchantress, the only one who has more power than King Knight himself.

I like these bossfights that have more interesting designs than just a geometric design, and I also like the bosses that feel like the boss is actually trying to kill the player. Although, the queen really should be blue. Other than that, great level. My favorite one so far.
A great level, love the whole chess theme, but it feels lacking a bit in relation to Shovel Knight. In the original Jsab level there were cauldrons of lava, and horns blowing confetti as attacks. The lava is a reference to a stage hazard in King Knights level that behaved similarly, and the horns are one of his attacks where he gets hailed by a few horns, and confetti rains down.
Actually, I think the chess interpretation helped add a bit of indirect Shovel Knight relation. Think of it kinda like this. King: King Knight Pawns/Bishops: Pridemoor Keep enemies Knights: Griffoths Rooks: Pridemoor Keep/Chariot/Fanfare horns Queen: The Enchantress (the only one who has more power than King Knight)
@@Agent-Dee it would be more fitting if king knight was a pawn pretending to be a king because thats what he is a mere pawn to others the absolute weakest of the weak who’s heart containers can only take a single hit
Amazing animation. You should try and Redo Final boss and see what else it could be as a boss fight or a level. It’s honestly one of the best songs and levels in the game and is one of my favourites. Especially the beat drop. I would love to see what you could come up with.
Wow, it's really nice and emotional! I think that this one should actually be a bossfight. As good as always, Kofi! And, by the way, are you planning to make anything with Wicked? In my opinion (and I think that many people will agree with me) it's one of your best characters now.
All I know. He got uncorrupted after the comeback, then at the end of COD you could see him grabbing the card and he is literally try this' boyfriend. (Ask Kofi, I'm not kidding or shitting you.)
Bit of friendly critique. The section towards the beginning that was kind of side scroller-like didn't feel like a boss, more like a normal level. That said, it was an amazing animation either way, and I enjoyed it a lot! Keep it up.
Its good, and the fight looks great! But you missed what the track stands for, King Knight is a bold idiot who doesn't care for no rules. Should've been a boss that's over confident in it's attacks.
Whoops, never really thought of that (Not very familiar with Shovel Knoght) that would've been very interesting, but I'll try to do more research adequately with the other Shovel Knight OSTs next time

I wanna point out the genius of making the boss a pawn, considering the title is "In The Halls Of The Usurper," and having the queen come and reclaim her throne at the end.
@@Agent-Dee Yeah, that's the point. Its a pawn that usurped the position of king. You can tell that it isn't actually a king, since the art for the Queen at the end uses the traditional shape of King/Queen in chess, and the pawn's art doesn't match up with it.

I like these bossfights that have more interesting designs than just a geometric design, and I also like the bosses that feel like the boss is actually trying to kill the player. Although, the queen really should be blue. Other than that, great level. My favorite one so far.
I think once you have done all the songs you should ask just shapes and beats at add something like a boss rush mode in single and multiplayer mode

A great level, love the whole chess theme, but it feels lacking a bit in relation to Shovel Knight.
In the original Jsab level there were cauldrons of lava, and horns blowing confetti as attacks.
The lava is a reference to a stage hazard in King Knights level that behaved similarly, and the horns are one of his attacks where he gets hailed by a few horns, and confetti rains down.
Actually, I think the chess interpretation helped add a bit of indirect Shovel Knight relation. Think of it kinda like this.
King: King Knight
Pawns/Bishops: Pridemoor Keep enemies
Knights: Griffoths
Rooks: Pridemoor Keep/Chariot/Fanfare horns
Queen: The Enchantress (the only one who has more power than King Knight)

Pretty nice but I wish the boss borrowed more elements from King Knight's battle like how the original did.
Amazing animation. You should try and Redo Final boss and see what else it could be as a boss fight or a level. It’s honestly one of the best songs and levels in the game and is one of my favourites. Especially the beat drop. I would love to see what you could come up with.

Bit of friendly critique. The section towards the beginning that was kind of side scroller-like didn't feel like a boss, more like a normal level. That said, it was an amazing animation either way, and I enjoyed it a lot! Keep it up.

Whoops, never really thought of that (Not very familiar with Shovel Knoght) that would've been very interesting, but I'll try to do more research adequately with the other Shovel Knight OSTs next time

I wanna point out the genius of making the boss a pawn, considering the title is "In The Halls Of The Usurper," and having the queen come and reclaim her throne at the end.

You can tell that it isn't actually a king, since the art for the Queen at the end uses the traditional shape of King/Queen in chess, and the pawn's art doesn't match up with it.
