I'm a little late to the party as I just discovered this great game a few months ago. The review is great and helps me understand the Cardassian Faction much better. One note on the Metagenic Weapons Advancement. If I am reading it right, instead of rolling dice, exhaust the card and all my dice this round hit. By the rules I want to score more hits than nodes as this will not destroy the planet and serve as a successful planetary invasion. I just don't want to score hits equal to the nodes. To me this is extremely powerful for this Faction. I can then always make sure I invade planets that I have at least one more ship than nodes to get the extra culture. Per the card, the only drawback is I must destroy one of the Nodes, not all of them. I"m not sure if you knew this as when you presented the card your statement was destroy nodes instead of "a Node". At any rate, I may be wrong on this but I think the procedure would follow how I described the card.
It's all in how you interpret the card. It can be interpreted two ways. Since is no pause, comma, or break in between "All your Dice hit and destroy a node", I read it as each die is a hit and destroys a node. I can see where it might also be read as all your dice hit and then you destroy only one node, which is what it seems you are saying. My thought is that there would be a pause in between those two phrases though in that case. In the very least a comma or period separating them into two distinct statements. That said, I can see how it could be read either way and I'm curious now as to what the new, updated rulebook that just came out has to say about it. It would certainly make the card more useful if it works like you think it does.
@@Trueflights Thanks for the quick reply. You are correct, I read the card wrong. Checking this with a response from the game developer Gale Force Nine, on BGG, it confers what you were saying. The wording of "a Node" threw me off. I just shined my brother on about this advancement too, he's going to be let down!
As for Sensor Ghosting & Holo Projections, it says they reroll only hits they've scored, not all the dice. So using this card can't make things worse - it can't turn a miss into a hit, since misses are not rerolled, I'd think.
The Klingon Cloaks are stolen Romulan cloaking technology and spesifically on the card specifies that it's romulan cloaking technology, at least it does in the version I got. And technology that says "romulan cloaking technology" in italics at the bottom is considered to qualify. really any fan made sets with cloaking should add this modifier to keep the game balanced, even if it's not "thematic"
Yes I plan on doing both. Just got them (They were really late) and I have to play a few games with them first. Also in the middle of moving at the moment so unfortunately it might not be until after the holidays, but I will get them done. I'll have unboxing and faction overviews like this one soon. You can check out some of the fan made factions in the meantime if you're interested.
@@adamwood3083 good to hear. There was a new 3.0 version that came out of the Dominion. Should be the final version for a woke with improved card graphic for better readability and a couple changes/re-wording of cards.
Sound like a misprint in the recent printing. I would contact them and see if they can send you the correct one. Three certainly should not be 2 of the same fleet in there
@@trueflightgaming9104 I mean the cards do say fleet 1 and 2. But I'll use the costumer service email to check. who know's maybe it was a balance revision... which would be stupid cause 6 instant kills in any fight is too easy. thanks for the information.
Controlled system vs home world makes it to me that cardassia itself should not count, why would they need to force themselves to work lol? Great overview and tips
I think it is more to show that they used a lot of forced labor of other races. They weren't always willing participant's in those jobs and needed a bit of encouragement to do their tasks
Great vid but one thing I noticed is the sensor net you said was useless if Romulus's are not present but that is actually not true because the Klingons can get the cloaking device too.
The card itself specifies "Romulan Cloaking" which is why I originally made that comment. If you look at the Klingon card that gives them cloaking though, it mentions that it is Romulan cloaking technology, so the card should work against it as well. It was just poor wording on the designers part. Had they just mentioned that it worked vs ALL cloaking, then it would have solved the problem. The real question is what other faction is on the way that has cloaking? The only reason to specifically mention that it only works against Romulans was if there was some other faction in the works that has cloaking and it isn't intended to work against them. That or it was just a lazy oversight by the designer, but I like to give them the benefit of the doubt.
I just finished a game as the Cardassians. This has got to he the worst faction in the game. Like I couldn't tell if the faction just super sucked or I did, because I had to read over their rules a dozen times to see if I was simply missing something. They are SO punishing with little to no positive balance.
They feel very similar to the Klingons in their aggressiveness, but they do have some major limitations. Some of their Advancements can compensate for this a bit, but there are definitely one of the more difficult races to play as. I've always been a fan of them, so I might give them a bit more of a chance than some people. They definitely do take a lot of skill to play successfully though due to their penalties.

Obviously there was a revision somewhere cause mine has 2 hunter-killer and I only got it this past year.

@@ryokuhasu9699 yeah, is definitely a miss printed card. I think I remember threads on BGG about there being a mistake on those at one point
Cool
I have videos up for all of the official factions and a bunch of custom, fan made ones. I also have strategy videos up for most of them

Yes. It took me a while to get them, then I was in the hospital for a bit, and then the holidays. The videos are coming though

Oh ok that makes sense in the lore it's stated how the romulans were the origin of cloaking technology and the klingons stole it
I'm glad to finally talk to a big sta fan like myself
On the klingon advancement card, at the bottom it is written that it is a romulan cloaking tech
