Can't believe this video is almost 6 years old. I still remember this and always wanted to give making an LED sign a go. Well, we've just created ours, happy with it!
Now this is how it's done. Purchasing a shadow box from Michael's is not a recycle, (seen on another channel moments ago.) I love Bob. Get's the job done, edits nicely, does not drag out the tutorial with a lot of words I don't need to hear.
Well done! Ive never seen the combination of the rustic/reclaimed look with modern LED. That combo has never even crossed my mind before. Awesome project.
That is very cool. I just built my CNC and I will be making some of these SOON. I also teach shop at a local HS and I hope to have my students make these too! This is something they can get excited about! What HS kid doesn't want a custom LED sign in their room!!? Thanks again!
This same idea could be used for restaurants or bars. Awesome project Bob! You gave me several ideas on how to use up my growing collection of pallet wood.
The black letters really pop with the pure white LEDs, nice job! Carey seems like a nice machine , but like the Carvewright/Compucarve it has more limitations.
Fantastic project Bob! This is a great take on a traditional "shadow box". I think everyone, if they don't make a "lighted sign" can use your techniques to make a "lighted shadowbox"...Pardon the pun. Great job!!
Thank you so much for making this video! I have a number of collectables that I've wanted to mount in shadow boxes with LED lighting for display around my house. Now I have a good idea as to how to mount and display these items.
Nice work Bob. That Carvey unit looks really awesome both the light and also the nasty edge on the outside look. I need to have a play around with those LED units, they have so many applications.
I really like the editing of these videos. The way you explain why you're doing what you're doing is really informative, and I really like the amount you've sped things up (not too slow to be boring, but no too fast that we don't really know what you're doing). And the way they're timed together is well-done. Sometimes I feel that when stuff is well-made it gets taken for granted, so I figured I would call attention to it. Thanks for the great videos :D
Hi Bob, love the project! To achieve a more pure white on the RGB strip, might it just be a matter of micro-adjusting the blue channel down a bit? From my experience with RGB LEDs, operating with 100% duty cycle on all 3 channels usually results in that bluish hue, so I take a few percent off the blue channel until it looks white. I don't have this particular strip, but the picture of the remote on Amazon shows up/down adjusters for each channel, so I'd hope that'd give you enough control.
ok, a few questions for you. can you suggest a good CNC machine for someone who doesnt wanna spend a thousand dollars, but wants something to do a good job. also, how high end does the computer have to be to operate it, and what program would you suggest for design?
I know this is a super old video but I was really inspired by this and I made one for my girlfriend. All I had was a circular saw so the miters aren’t as clean but still came out really nice
I am probably overlooking it, but where did you purchase the white LED light strip. I'm looking for a similar strip. I need mine to operate with batteries. I may start hoarding pallets after watching some of your videos. Very inspiring.
How about using a RGBW strip for getting best of both worlds ? I used to use yellowish white and rgbw strips together for really adjusting the look of my desk.
Nice video. I totally expected you to have your logo stand proud of the back panel. Thin dowel rods might cast some interesting shadows but the same translucent stuff the logo was made from might look a little more classy.
That was really cool! Ps John Heisz has a short "tips" video you may want to check out. It's about using a nail gun and the nails blowing out the sides.
awesome :) is there any easy way to make lettering out of some material with very little power tools? I would like to do just simple letters like the carvey sign.
do you think you could etch with that cnc machine? and if not do you have any ideas on how to etch and light up from an image/logo from the side? if you could help me out thatd be cool thanks
What a cool project! Those look awesome Bob
Love these LED strips. I have to try a project with these.

i could not understand how a computer professional guy is so perfect to make all kind of stuff.hats off to you man...
Awesome project ! Great insight in the led strips. Been needing to bone up on them for some if my bar builds
Оригинально !

Very cool projects! Love that it can change colors. You do some sweet stuff Sir Bob!
izzy swan Thanks Izzy! That means a lot coming from you!
Cable companies should be queuing up to employ you Bob. Your creativity and production skills are so impressive. Thanks for doing what you do.
Martin
locohombre79 Wow, what a compliment.. thank you so much!
DAMN, DANIEL! Back at it again with the reclaimed wood DIY!
Looks fantastic! Really like the Carvey one and the contrast between the clean light and the rustic frame.
Love these! The light colour of the Carvey box is much purer and nicer.
One of the best uses for LED strips I've seen yet. Very well done, Bob.
I like the white LED lights much more. Nice crisp white. And cool idea, by the way!
Love the simple design, looks awesome!
Great project Bob! Good idea using the nail hole as camouflage.
The end result looked futuristic. Love this!
This was awesome Bob! I love the way the lights emit the light across the inside of the box
You are a great inspiration to beginner woodworkers and your ideas are very unique and sharp. Keep up the good work.
Thank you so much!!

Carey seems like a nice machine , but like the Carvewright/Compucarve it has more limitations.
They look very professional. Can't wait to build something like this myself!
Asparagus Gaming Please share photos with me if you do, I'd love to see them!
Awesome project Bob, they look great.
Thanks Carl
they look pretty good that far
I just made the exact same thing from MDF and it turned out really good,
A great project to start out woodworkinng,
Thanks

mdbohica Yeah, it's a great way to showcase anything in a box!
I like your videos, you do excellent work not only on the products, but also explaining them. Congrats!
Very Cool !! Nicely done Bob.
AAAAfter looking at a couple of your vids, I must say: U sir, are my new hero! THX for uploads and the inspiration U spread!
Thanks so much!
Very cool Bob. It's really fun how you mix technology and woodworking in your projects.
And, I'm super jelly of his work room.
This is pretty cool!
I love that you have all the tools for these projects!
I love it! Especially the Carvey box.
Great work,i like how you mix woodworking with modern technology !
Beautiful light boxes! I like products from pallets.
Nice project and use of the LED's.
I used the RGB LED's on the lower part of my young daughters bunk beds that I built and she loves them.
Great idea!
i love watching these projects u make my son always try to make at least one of them every week
Thank you so much for making this video! I have a number of collectables that I've wanted to mount in shadow boxes with LED lighting for display around my house. Now I have a good idea as to how to mount and display these items.
Yes! That a great idea! I'd love to see them when you get them displayed!
awesome. i'm about to make a box with LEDs for a university exhibition and this just came out! :)
I don't even have a shop in my house, but this is honestly the most relaxing thing to watch.
Nice work Bob. That Carvey unit looks really awesome both the light and also the nasty edge on the outside look. I need to have a play around with those LED units, they have so many applications.
***** Yes! It's amazing how much they can add to a project since they're SO easy to use. You can also cut sections and resolder them together easily.
This is a really cool project Bob!

thebombzen Thank you for that! It's a real encouragement to hear things like that, so I do, sincerely, appreciate it!
Lit signs are always fun and I need to try those LED strips.
Really like that carvey sign bruv.
These are actually sick!!
Really like this, Bob. Think I'm going to make something similar for the walls in my kid's rooms.
I just started watching your videos today and I'm hooked. Keep up the good work!
Nice design! I layout large circuit boards for LED Signs. Love the improv you did with this! Pallet wood is getting so big!
Nice simply project and actually useful.
wow! these look really cool!
Bob.. Terrific project.. Really liked this idea....... May have to put one of these together in the near future. Thanks

Now I wish a had a Garage with all that Machineries as Toys !!!
Cool! awesome wood sign, so trendy

I take it the lights plug straight into the mains on both? Great video.
you can get very similar results balancing the colors of the RGB LEDs ;) I have done it and the difference is not even noticeable
Very Cool, and Got the shirt today, Thanks Bob

I have some pallet wood...this looks like a great project to make!
Nice project thanks Bob
Very nice love your work. Thank you for sharing.

great videos ! love watching them !
Daamn that's nice! Big fan over here from Germany!
That's great things you make. Thank you for sharing this !
You can put the infrared receiver of the LED controller in the corner were the cables come in.
They don't need a direct signal. Reflections are enough
Very cool and so easy to make!
5050 LED includes either a cool or a warm White and gives you the best of both worlds- just a thought
Very neat project - one of my favorites of yours.
Do you know what materials carved can cut through and if it is able to cut all the way through as well as half way cuts?
To get true white from RGB LEDs you can use driver with gamma correction or make it with arduino.
Do you use power from a wall socket to power your LED-strips, or would it be possible to run it off batteries?
Nice video. I totally expected you to have your logo stand proud of the back panel. Thin dowel rods might cast some interesting shadows but the same translucent stuff the logo was made from might look a little more classy.
Bob, I love your work and videos but what is up with the upper right mitre joints in the frames?
I have a question
Can you make this out of mdf instead of reclaimed wood, and would it still look good if the mdf was spray painted?
Very cool idea!
After this was filmed, did you fill in the small gaps on the mitre joints where the light bleeds out? That would annoy me too much.
Great project. I have lots of Spare LED modules and strips from my Christmas Lighting. Might have to throw something together.
This is really cool!
This is so badass!
Cool project, came out nice!
Awesome vid man! 💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽
Awesome Bob!!
smart work Bob
Awesome! Just awesome!
How well do you think this would work with a logo printed to paper or card? I'm wanting to make one of these myself, but don't have access to a CNC
Hell Ya, already stoked a few ways to make this my own! Thanks for showcasing this.
Nice signs!
Where did you get your LED lights? Looks very cool.
That was really cool!
Ps John Heisz has a short "tips" video you may want to check out. It's about using a nail gun and the nails blowing out the sides.
hi I just wanted to ask that if you ever get hurt by your tools or the wood by getting splinters
awesome :) is there any easy way to make lettering out of some material with very little power tools? I would like to do just simple letters like the carvey sign.
do you think you could etch with that cnc machine? and if not do you have any ideas on how to etch and light up from an image/logo from the side? if you could help me out thatd be cool thanks
You can use sticky tacks and you can change the words on the sign and then you can change it whenever
That Carvey is cool but WOW, what a price tag!
That was a fun video, nice job.
excelentes trabajos!!!!! felicitaciones!!!! tendré que ponerme a trabajar!!! gracias por activarme de nuevo!! saludos
