Which corps were your favorite?
First to reply
Troopers tbh
Boston
Since I can’t pick my show , Bluecoats for sure !
Fs Boston, they’re drumline is crazy and that super clean Spock roll was crazy, easily my favorite show but bluecoats are up there too
I feel like there were 2 pieces missing in this, the Boston crusaders battery was incredible and the troopers played freaking blindfolded!!
Facts. With the stadium lights shining right on us it was hard af to see
They’re supposed to be see through but with sun/stadium lights they’re not see through at all
wait, are you two in the Troopers?
the drumline caption head is the percussion caption head for my hs

Would've been nice if he ranked the battalion but no problem
The guy on the keytar hit the peak of his life during that solo
Dude was having the time of his life and afterlife, he was so happy and it was so wholesome
I can't believe I'm seeing the day that Music City is in the top 20. My hometown corp, they've only been around since 2009, and only World Class since 2018. Now they've placed 17th overall (and you gave them 16th), with their new highest ever score. They're on fire!
The bass 4 from this show was a senior at my highschool and one of my good friends brother. I will hopefully be joining them next year (my senior year) as a trumpet.
@@bormga3981 omg i go to his high school too
you should definitely try out!
Glad you enjoyed our show! I was a member of Genesis and everybody was super proud of the show we put out there! Keep an eye on Genesis for next year!
i hope to make genesis for 2023
@@tommysteele7032 you make it?
@@andyzavala2349 I DID IM SO EXCITED
@@tommysteele7032 ay bro, idk what section you in but see you next camp
@@andyzavala2349 I’ll see you in march! I’m mellophone btw
1. Troopers - very underrated but still happy they made finals. Most memorable show of 2022 in my opinion, and didn’t need many field props to make that impression.
2. Crusaders - saw the season opener show in the theater and was my favorite; it was even better live at Prelims. (My schedule only allowed one day in Indy)
3. Bluecoats/Vanguard - Tons of energy and always great musicianship.
BTW, I was wearing a BD shirt at every event I went to this year 😜.
i got to see the troopers live and i was blown away. the show was perfect so creative, just to get 12th.
@@boeqy2796 it was a deserved 12th place finish. they could've pushed for 11th, but finals run was treated sort of like a victory run by the members and wasn't as clean as it could've been
I loved Troopers too, but technically they are not at the same level as the top 5 corps. Still, they were my second most entertaining show of the summer next to Phantom. I also loved BD and Boston!
Saw DCI in idaho where I live and drove to Utah the next day to see it again. I am a die hard Blue Devils fan. Their show was amazing and I was totally fangirling, but I can NOT get over the trooper’s show this year. Literally the best I’ve ever seen and I was crying because it was so good. Definitely agree they are #1 this year!
The troopers were amazing
Our band drove out to the DCI competition in Annapolis and I was blown away with the “sunburst”
It might just be that I like Wild West themed shows but they are #1 in my book lol
was there at dci champs, loved the keytar solo and the troopers
I’m gonna give a special shout-out to the Bluecoats Alumni Corps. Their show is my favorite show of the year and one of my favorites of all time, and it wasn’t even judged! I thought it was absolutely incredible and all our favorite Bluecoats hits were in there. So much emotion packed into 20 minutes.
thanks for putting us at 10
As someone who marched Genesis, it's awesome to see that you liked our show!! I'm so glad you liked it, it was a ton of fun, thanks for putting us up there!
One of my college directors is the director of percussion at Troopers. Half our studio marched DCI this past year and they were almost all in his top 10, crazy to think about.
Dan Sailer?
@@tenor_man1308 correction, caption head, Lauren Teel. My apologies.
One of my former hs directors is with low brass at Troopers and is also a college director funnily enough
@@mrclarinetnerd what's the name of your former director?
@@benward8545 it was Reader
I’m glad u enjoyed the show and thank you for the complement! - mandarins 2022 vocalist😁
I’m close friends with the Bluecoats Timpanist, so I popped off hard when they won best Percussion.
They totally deserved it 😎
Your top 4 is the exact same as mine!
My Band Director Marched Bluecoats and was there for the alumni corps.
This was fun to watch. All I wanted to be when I grew up was a Trooper since they are based 60 miles from my home town. It never happened, but I still geek out watching marching bands and drum and bugle corps perform.
We have a legacy corps now (so anyone can March!) I was the DM for the A corps in 19-22. And now I’m one of the DMs on the Legacy Corps. Check out our Facebook page for the interest form!
That’s awesome! I might have to check that out. It’s been almost 20 years since I played my horn, but I really would love to get back into it.
5:55 the tenor on the right is a guy named Desmond. He was a senior my freshmen year, he marched troopers last year and now SCV
The tall snare 3 from the right is named Aiden. He was a senior my 8th grade year and is at UNT.
Aren't most of SCV's member's previous Troopers anymore??
@@ksquires2840 I could be very wrong but I believe they have the same caption head/instructors.
Hi! I marched the Vanguard Cadets, in the trumpet line, this year! So glad you liked our show!! TNPLSC :)
my band director was part a Carolina crown and even got world champions with them and its so cool seeing how he incorporates what he did in his dci years with us in high school marching band
Wow this list was incredibly well put together and I truly enjoyed watching it all! And thank you for appreciating Music City's show and ranking us high for our historic year!
While we were in 2 by 2s, you walked past the hornline as we were on our way to warmups in Allentown. Needless to say I was very hyped after that.
thats me at 6:29!!! just to the left of the 30 and right behind the sideline. Never thought that I would end up in one of your videos. this makes me unbelievably happy
I marched Music City this year. It’s cool seeing myself on your channel!
Story if the Bluecoats made a Silk Road show: “ the story of how psychedelic drugs are bought online by Bloo’s show designers, and their importance in a bluecoats show.”
I agree with most of this list other than Cavies. I saw the Bluecoats earlier in the season, and wasn't blown away. When I saw them in Indy, that show was 🔥
I can tell you did alot of homework for this video and I really do appreciate it. Keep it up. Love the channel.
The Madison Scouts practiced at my school multiple times because our new director is a graduated Scout. Green Berets also traveled to perform.
Glad this video is out there, for those seasoned in the activity and for those that also have no idea what it is! Definitely enjoyed it!
Great job EMC!
Okay, I just started marching band the year or 2022, and I loved watching all of the corps.
Your top 20 is frighteningly close to mine sir. Well done! Crown is my top show (Charter Member) and except for one corps, my Top 12 was almost on point with yours.
Thanks for keeping it real and being a fan instead of following the “formula”
Cheers!
I was able to take my two high schoolers to watch a Boston Crusaders rehearsal when they were in our area before they closed them to the public. What an amazing experience it was for them! For that reason they my favorite.
Really like your channel. And your commentary.
One of our baritone players from my high school ended up in Phantom Regiment. Amazing show from them!
I absolutely loved the scouts this year
Also this year when music city was performing lightning struck right as the beat dropped and at the very end they dropped a rifle
we all loved when that lightning hit!
I got to go to a dci show in virginia and i got to see Pacific Crest, Santa Claire Vangyard, and the Colts . It was a really fun experience
1. Boston
2. Coats
3. Crown
4. Troopers
5. SCV
i’m glad you have troopers up there, they are one of my favs too
Boston guard was fantastic, but their show was awful.
Beth, I couldn’t disagree more. Yes, Boston’s guard was incredible. But so was the show.
I really think a lot of ppl underrated SCV this year. Yes, it was hella unconventional, but a big finish with a sort-of company front.. then drifting into that brilliant outro.. Flowering Mandala made form those weird props? Who saw THAT coming? And of course the lotus pattern of sitting down topped by an enlightened hovering CG member.
My favorite show was the Cadets. I also believe if it hadn't been for the Keytar everyone would be talking about the cello. I do appreciate your take.
Bro I am so happy when I saw the Blue coats performance!! It was one of the most amazing shows I saw.
My band directors son was on the blue devils this season and he was the lead mellophone so pretty exciting
BD was sickeningly clean, and yes, the set player was just wicked. I have not been a big fan of BDs show design (not enough musical or visually continuity for my taste, too disjointed) but goddamn, can they play. Boston's battery was unreal, but Bluecoats entire percussion section was so consistent and so sublime. BlooPit was just unreal.
music city was so fun to march this summer and it was an amazing experience and i recommend it to anyone looking for somewhere to go!
I absolutely appreciated how the SCV cymbal player kept going in prelims even without one plate. This reminds me to find the show and see if I can spot where she lost it.
Another common W from EMC.
so so so lucky I got to see the cadets, bluecoats, blue devils, and troopers along with crossmen and genesis, introduced me to many corps
Hugest regret of this season is not being able to watch Troopers and Cadets show live. Troopers did a standstill performance because they had too many members out due to sickness, and storms cut that night's show short before the Cadets could take the field.
Yeah the academy had a similar problem with it and I really wanted to see their show live
@@pinhead3780 I absolutely loved the Academy’s show. It was hilarious and the crowd in Atlanta ate it up. Definitely one of my favorites of 2022.
Blue Coats were my personal favorite, but wow I was blown away by the troopers this year. Hadn't listened to them much, but I started when a friend announced he was gonna be playing tuba this year. Amazing show, and jesus christ those blindfolds and the stadium lights probably weren't a great match lol.
I think the blindfolds were made of a material that would let some vision through.. Same stuff as was wrapped on the cello.. sort of a flimsy base cloth with sequins or something plastered on it.
They weren't the worst at Lucas Oil, but at some shows during tour that were performed later in the night, and giant industrial lights way closer to our eyes... those times made it tough to see haha
Thanks for showing Pacific Crest some love!!!

had the pleasure of performing in OC finals and WC prelims this year, which was kind of a blessing because we then got to watch finals. my favourite was bluecoats with crown as my #2!
OMG SO happy to see someone of serious and respected background get all swept up in the glory of "voRacious" this year. I sure hope Troopers can keep up that level of brilliance.
The Cavaliers were woefully undervalued.
I watched watched the academy, and it got super windy. All their exercise balls blew away, and the gate fell down. But they did awesome!
That happened for the time I saw them live too. Where did you see them live if you don’t mind me asking? I saw them in Utah.
@@dj8gaming267 there's a video of it here ua-cam.com/video/gmiDO8fE_mI/v-deo.html
Saw them in Utah too
THat would be the Ogden show, yes? I was supposed to go but the extreme heat kept me inside. Stewart Stadium ulds a lot of memories for me.
@@ZakhadWOW Correct.
Thank you for doing a "for noobs" kind of video. I always am looking for something I can send to my friends that are clueless about DCI. Now if we could only get DCI to stop taking down pirated shows, the more people that can see this stuff the more will be interested in it. I am still constantly meeting musicians that have never heard of DCI!
One of our drum techs marched cross men this year
You caught me off guard in Allentown NGL hope you had a good time!
One of my drum majors in my high school marching band actually marched trumpet in genesis and we got to watch him live. Dorothy is probably one of my favorite shows they have done
16:12 I tore off a small piece of that vinyl and I've kept it in my phone case ever since. His name is Buck and I love him.
i was at the Annapolis dci show earlier this year during the summer so i recognize some of the shows. really good stuff they got going on there
I love how high you placed the Troopers. That and the Boston Crusaders were my favorite shows this year
I really cool to see you put colts up there because my friend was in colts and he is only a junior! (In high school)
W Eric for putting coats at 1st they deserved it so much
This is the realest list ever like every single spot I agree with you
(except 1 and 2)
It’s cool to see what my high school pioneered in the 90’s with story lines backdrops tarps and props as standard now. I wish I’d gone on to drum corps but my drumline experience was second to none. Check out Thousand Oaks high school from 1996-2000
I think you should do recaps and personal placings of every year!
Very Cool EMC
Bluecoats Alumni was a sight to see and hear.
It was definitely the highlight of the night.
Ima surprised Guardians 22’ “From Scratch” wasn’t on their lol
Great choice of picks !
I went to school with one of the drum majors for the troopers
I Agree Whole-Heartedly. Nice work.
Phantom show was amazing, and got high crowd reaction!
You and I have similar taste and value similar show styles so I agree with a good deal of your list. That said, I think you (and most of the world) undervalued SCV. I loved the concept, the drum line was super tight, and that lotus at the very end made me ugly cry for 3 minutes straight. I also loved Troopers but don’t know that i’d go all the way to #3. Lastly, it took me a long time to warm up to Bluecoats show, but I eventually did. I thought the whole keytar thing was overhyped and thought it would have been more effective in a smaller dose.
- former UD snare. Go Hens!
My band director worked with the Sacramento Mandarins this year
Good morning! This is video number 8 of me asking Eric to make a set of tenors out of differently sized snare drums.
I loved the Troopers!
Me and my friend are doing a duet for I&E right after you! Looking forward to seeing you :)
2:32 Two of my classmates marched scv cadets in the summer and you can actually see one of them in the big tubs looking line so that’s pretty cool. Gooooooooooo Gaels!
Have friends in vanguard cadets, was fun to watch them during band as a class
I can’t stop looking at those drums behind you! Are they like roto toms but quads? All on one stand? I use roto toms but it would be neat to have an extra or two on the same stand
I know the tambourine soloist for the colts. Super cool dude.
You did the Scouts dirty 😂
Bruh I marched mello with them this year and yeah, I agree design was odd and I'd like classic but like God daaaamnuh it wasn't that bad like shit we got shafted. Environmental challenges were crazy and we def should've done less choreo and marched more but fucking last? Dude didn't even say anything about the show besides "its about art"
6:25 If Genesis didn't have someone on the field yelling "Hold up, hold up. Her sister was a witch, and what was her sister? A Princess...The Wicked Witch of the East, Bro..." Missed opportunity....They would have won Worlds so fast.
The show originally had Work Bitch by Britney Spears in it
I’m sure that one change would jump them
20 points to beat BD 🙄
@@JGramazio12 Be as sarcastic as you want, but if Carolina Crown can put a Rickroll in their show and score higher... I mean, I see a correlation...
@@JerridFoiles Hey I’m not a fan of Rick rolls at all so. I was not a fan of crown at all this year. There is too much fabric used on the field too many streamers, too many useless voiceovers that made no sense, Topped off but I a little chandelier by Sia.
Boston Crusaders had hands down the best show this season as it held the to the true nature of drum corps and it's soul.
i disagree, i usually am a blue devils fanboy, but oh my god the bluecoats were amazing. also it felt like boston got dirtier over the 3 days, and they plateau'd throughout the season. they dominated the early and mid season, but they didn't change much after about 3/4 of the season.
I just never really understood their show. Like yeah I know it’s supposed to be about Adam and Eve or a poem based off of it but the props in my opinion did not help tell the story of their show.
bloo was better
@@Ian-hw9nn thats what i said
"I like the dark shows, they fill my heart with joy "
The entire corps literally dying at one point
my high school band actually bought the big spinning props from the mandarins, and yes they’re pretty damn heavy lol. the baritone section gets to do a big spin with them like they did, but for safety reasons, no one gets to run through (at that part at least)
I need to see this show
Troopers was my fav show I saw live
The Blue Coats show in person was so fire!!!!!
carolina crown will always be my favorite saw them at dci MTSU, so good!
"All of the drum corps in existence in 2022" is basically what this video should be.
I got to go to DCI with my band this year, but it sadly got canceled mid way because of a lightning storm! It was an awesome experience though and it got us out of a day at band camp!!
Was it perhaps Akron?
Haha, see you in Rochester next weekend. I wont be able to make it up for your performance on Friday some of have to work lol, but Go BUSHWACKERS, my daughter is a mellophone player in the brass line, you def have to check out their percussion, don't tell my kid but I spend a lot of my time listening to the BD line lol.
First, I hope to see you in Rochester.
Second, did you see Bloo Alumni?
That Bloo Alumni show was fire! and Charles did a great job conducting.
Go EMC!!!!! You’re a beast
Funny thing about Veritas is a lot of the battery for Blue Knights actually marched there last season (and hopefully where I’ll get into this upcoming season)
I have a friend who was a part of the Silk Road show
Erik you seem to have forgotten the very best corps... HEATWAVE!!
my visual instructor helped with the troopers! :)
As a member of the Mandarins Colorgaurd there was no casualties to the wall yes it is very heavy only minor scrapes and cuts happened.
In my totally unbiased and definitely not because I was a member of the band, I definitely think the Calgary Stampede Showband should've made your list. After all, we had THE best woodwind section in all of DCI!
My 2 favorite parts of coming down as an International Class competitor:
1) Being able to make a great impression to a brand new audience that had never even heard of us before. Back home our audience is mostly parents and alumni so being able to show off to a new group of people was a great experience.
2) Confusing the boomers. Do they hate us for having woodwinds, or do they love us for wearing traditional uniforms and hats and playing classic drum corps tunes?
Anyways, I'm so glad I got to have this experience!
it was such an honour to go down there :) emc reacting to us would be pretty cool!
Did hs marching band in the states then moved to Calgary after. Love tge cs showband!
They've added so many non Corps instruments, I don't get why they don't March woodwinds
Loved all the shows of the Stampede.
Confusing the boomers is the best thing ever!
During my band camp week we go to see dci at a near school and during the week the mandarins practiced on our field for the competition that night
SCV at no. 13 is a VERY hot take imo, just because of their brass.
