How to Organize and Optimize Your Stamp Collection (FREE Template)

- In this video, I demonstrate how to optimize your stamp collection by creating stamp label templates in Microsoft Word. After typing in key information such as the date, series description and catalog number, you can print off stamp labels with standard printer paper or cardstock.

This is a video that has certainly resonated with me. Having (re)started this hobby a few years ago, I soon found collecting was super easy and fun. However the organising of my stamps soon became something that I have never been totally happy with. When I was a kid a stamp book and a few stamp hinges were all I needed, or really knew about to be honest. Pre-made country specific albums are okay to a point but I soon discovered that they missed certain stamps, or the quirkier stamps I like, perhaps with a perfin or unusual cancellation, had no place in them. I then contemplated printing my own pages, but this was soon discarded as it is very time consuming designing pages and my collection evolves and changes all the time. So I then decided to buy stock pages and print my own labels. Firstly I purchased a Brother Label printer. This seemed the ideal choice as I could buy paper that fitted the strips of the pages perfectly. However thermal printing fades, and even though that takes a while it seemed like a waste of time and energy if they need reprinting years later. I have also bought a Brother P-Touch printer which prints thin strips. This is ideal for large collections of Machin's and Wilding's as all I need is the Stanley Gibbon's number for reference as each section has a label printed for the date range. Then, like yourself, I am making information labels. I'm using an old copy of Microsoft Publisher (though I will give Word a go after seeing this video) and printing them on card. Now I can add info as I see fit. So that unusual stamp with an overprint is explained as to why it happened sixty years ago. My only niggle, and this is my OCD kicking in, is that I am not always happy with how I have cut the labels. I have tried scissors, craft knives and small paper guillotines, but if the edge is half a millimetre out it looks like a mile to me :) Keep up the great work as I really enjoy your videos 👍

Good video but thought you might hit on software used with collecting. What stamp collecting software do you like? have heard others talk about Stamp Tracker, Stamp Manage, EZ stamp and Stamp organizer deluxe. Your thoughts on this topic?

I had a catastrophic event at my home two years ago... lightning started a fire.. we lost all possessions pretty much, but my stamp collection (50years in the making) was stored in tight lid containers.. the smoke and soot got the albums, but I saved most of the stamps.. needless to say, I'm re-sorting everything, since most all of the collection got mixed up when I had to use ozone generators and hydroxide generators to sort of clean the stamps up and get the smell off them.. I succeeded!! but this label gives me New hope to resume and get it back to what it was like..
