    I have been a photographer since the days of film, when I went digital, I also started my switch from windows to Mac due to various reason all related to the digital processing software etc. I got my ticket this year and my first mobile radio purchase was the ID5100. After buying it, I did buy a Samsung Tablet, just for running this software. I will also say, I have had a few issues of programming my radio with the Mac, I can see, that sometime in the near future, I will be needing to purchase a Windows unit just for programming radios etc, the same basic reason I switched to mac will be the same reasons I need a windows computer, for amateur radio operations. Thanks for making such great products and apps for making running radios that are so rich in technology easier to run. I appreciate each and everyone of you who have had a hand in making this equipment for us.
    Thanks again and have a blessed weekend.

    For public safety events that we do, can you see the current position on the android device under the mapping of the current position of the people you have been receiving over the D*Star repeater who has DPRS set up.

    This was a useful video, not so much for the info about the app but the few snippets included in it which were about simply how to use D-star. The explanation about what a Reflector is was the first I've heard and was very helpful. But it's like this video is Part 2 or even 3 of a series explaining how to use D-star but its the earlier videos I'm missing. For example, the video starts with the two sets already connected for a simplex QSO. How was that set up? I've read the manual but it didn't really explain to me how to start with D-star.

    Does anyone know if you can set up to beacon photos every so often from the android device to the ID-5100 to transmit? You could beacon photos from the ID-5100 to the handheld ID-51 using simplex and view on the ID-51 cable linked android screen??

    Is the tablet connected to the radio through Bluetooth?
    I could not get any of my tablets to connect to the ID-5100 through Bluetooth. Icom tech support said that it only works with very old Bluetooth adapters (ver 2.1-3.0). None of the newer 6 years old or newer devices will work. What were thei thinking at Icom when they released the product?

    • @RadioGuy-wt1vr
      @RadioGuy-wt1vr 6 років тому

      Apparently they weren't thinking far enough ahead. I've always liked iCom radios, but they often don't feature what I wished they would. Portable radios really should have much more robust batteries than they have.

      There are numerous tablets/operating systems on the market and would be advisable to check ID-51 forums for those that are compatible

      I have an S2 tablet and I can't get this piece of crap to work. I'm out $80 for a cable that doesn't work. Garbage. Icom should refund my money and give me an extra $5,000 for the aggravation I have gone through trying to use this POS.

    What is the model of the Pad that is being used? Trying to get my ID-51A Plus working with a Samsung Galaxy S4 (using OPC-2350LU cable) and cannot get a USB connection. Call ICOM Tech Support today. Learned that the RS-MS1A App does not work with all Android devices, and evidently there's no list of devices that the App does work with.

    I was told by iCom tech support and an iCom dealer that this setup (ID-51A Plus and RS-MS1A) cannot send texts to smartphone recipients. Why not? Why only radio to radio texting? If it could text to the billion or so smartphones out there, you would sell a ton of this setup. Sure would beat this solution hands down: www.gotenna.com/.

    This is all typical nonsense. If you are an amateur radio person you can use Echolink on any computer, tablet or phone using Win10, Android, Linux, etc. Digital is just a fashion and "one has to have a digital transceiver" to be up to date. Rubbish! Let's face facts, amateur radio is dying out and in some countries, it is as good as dead. Most HAM's are either outdated and frustrated 65 + oldies and with the exception of some CB's turned into HAMs it is the most boring hobby one can imagine. Nowadays people want to see the person and speak live with them, and Skype and similar programs do it excellently. I hear some HAMs saying that this has nothing to do with amateur radio, however, how boring is it to ask someone about the callsign, signal strength, the name, and the city. You do not see the person, you cannot have a good conversation it is simply outdated and just suited for some boring old farts being unfriendly to anyone not using morse code. Maybe, they are using candles at home instead of electric light! It looks like it. - As to the above, I do not speak about the professional applications of D-Star. Without a question, D-Star and digital is an excellent invention for professional applications, but for HAMs the so much hated Internet is the only way you can use most of the digital transmissions! Just forget the entire HAM stuff it is dead and out. - 73 - VK1FGYL

      You are joking, Right? I would be hard pressed to find anyone more lacking in information pertaining to ham radio than you. Your fake callsign does not show up on the databases. So you are just someone for whom the hobby does not appeal. Great. Don't do it. Just don't ever need help when the power goes down and your life is at stake. You must be very bliss.
