The Dietary Needs Of Lambs!

- In today's episode of our daily sheep farming vlog at Ewetopia Farms, we discuss the dietary needs of lambs. We reveal the secret behind our healthy and fast-growing sheep and emphasize the importance of simplicity, natural feeding, and cleanliness for their well-being. As grazers, sheep's main diet should consist of grass, whether it's pasture or hay, with all other feeds being supplementary. We highlight the significance of lambs nursing from their mothers for as long as possible to benefit from the nutrition and aid in the weaning process. Furthermore, we stress the importance of maintaining cleanliness in all aspects, including water, salt and mineral feeders, feed bunks, and bedding. Today, we showcase the hay we feed our lambs and witness their remarkable growth and vitality even at just one month old.
Before we dive into feeding the sheep, we also share the joy of welcoming two beautiful Dorset lambs born the previous night. However, we sadly unveil some unfortunate news about the accidental suffocation of one of our Suffolk lambs by its mother. This incident highlights the potential risks of bonding pens, which is why we aim to integrate them into family groups as soon as possible. To ensure the safety of the lambs, we have designed jugs with areas under the feeders where they can rest without the danger of being crushed by their mothers.
Moving forward, we demonstrate the process of bottle-feeding and teaching the bottle babies to nurse. Although the older lambs have started to grasp the concept, the younger ones still require our assistance.
Wrapping up the video, we close it on a heartwarming note with the birth of another pair of Dorset twins from one of our show sheep. Join us on this eventful day filled with insights into sheep nutrition and the joys of lambing.

Beautiful baby Lamb's, Krystal's lamb's 💜🤍💛🧡 The show sheep
The bottle babies are coming along well with their training.
It blows me away every time I see how much the lambs (especially the oldest) have grown. They are huge. Testament to how well they are taken care of by their mother and you and Arnie.
Yes, they grow so quickly. It's hard to believe they're only a month old!🙂
Good afternoon Arnie and Lynn. Awww. What a shame that mommy was so clumsy. Sad indeed and is hard to take. Little mister was calling to Arnie. I was wondering how the hose was working out. Mister has quite the baa. Can’t miss him. Love watching those lambies go for the bottles and picking on Arnie. 😂😂😂. You two are so cute with the lambs. That is really pretty bail in the feeder. All the lambs are loving their grasses. Wow. Look how grown she is. Beautiful. You just have to love Mister. He is becoming quite handsome. Hi Scotty. Lambs are so amazing when they are born. Krystal had her a couple of show sheep. Good job momma. Great groundhog days edition. Shepherds pie sounds yummy. Big big hugs to you both. 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰😉😉❤️❤️❤️
The hose is slow because of the small diameter but it is way less labor intensive so I like it. Arnie has less patience so finds it time consuming so I usually do it 😉 Mister has a very distinctive voice and is very demanding. But once he calms down and is fed, he is so adorable!🥰🥰🥰🥰
@@EwetopiaFarms It is hard not to love Misrer’s baa. He has been such a warrior with no mommy wanting him. They missed out for sure. 🥰🥰
I know it’s extra work for you both but l❤ 🍼🐑. Also love the hay mobbing, the lambs are just intensely at it and the lamb races.
Yes, all the lamb antics are great 🙂 Bottle babies are tough when they are learning the bottle feeder but are so cute nevertheless ❤
I'm with you Lynn, I don't pay to much attention to Groundhog Day. The way I see it, we're in for 6 more weeks of winter no matter what the groundhog sees!😂 Thanks for a great video!! Stay safe!!🙏❤
Yes, unfortunately that's true 🙂
@@EwetopiaFarms and for us…the groundhog is on the east coast…he doesn’t know what the west coast is doing!
Maybe the 2nd twin could be Murray (as in Bill Murray from the movie Groundhog Day)
Good one!
Wow they are so cute. You all work really hard. Sun up to sun down. The true life of a farmer.
And every day too! Ugh!!😅😅
TY for naming the little guy Mac made me smile and made my day 😊😊 Have a wonderful day I know I am going to! See you tomorrow 😊
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤😊
Good morning!
🌹🌹🌹🌹
Love Arnie calling that one Tick. Lol. Nice job both of you.
Acknowledgement seeking isn't necessarily narcissism! Men are wired for praise. Women are wired to seek love... a little recognition fir good work goes a long way!
Lol! So true. But, sometimes it is 😁 Believe me Arnie gets loads of praise
@@EwetopiaFarms lol! Yes, I have one at home, a few brothers and a crew if men working for me. Give them credit, have a happy home!

valla hayranım sıze kolaygelsın
Thank you very much!❤
Nice video today. Too bad about that Suffolk lamb. Hope the mom is more steady on her feet. Is that huge Suffolk ewe lamb a single. She is outstanding!
Yes, she is a single. She is quite the fast grower though!😄
loved seeing the creepiest....it would make a good pic for a calendar or mug
lol Mr tick lamb is not gonna let you forget about a bottle!
Arnie, seriously, you can learn. You’ve been working overtime since lambing started.
I’d say not getting a good night’s sleep night after night can adversely affect anyone’s cognitive abilities, and can disrupt how you process your emotions.
You both are on overdrive right now, with more night time and day time work directly with the sheep and now new lambs too. Oh the stress is real. 🙏🏻♥️
The dangers of UA-cam is believing everything people say. Go by your professional farming experience and do your best every day. And should some task fail, take it as a learning experience, eat some more “Bob” casserole, and move on, especially right now. You have many expecting ewes and lambs depending on your help.
Thank you. You are right. Being tired changes your cognitive abilities. But losing lambs is so disheartening when you are trying so hard🙂
That ewe lamb is georgeous and big, the ram lamb with the blotchy wool is also nice too, i think it's the Glad son, he's georgeous too! Actually they are all beautiful so it'll be hard picking a nice one, if it was me, but i like beefy sheep! he he
Yes, we like the beefy sheep too 🙂
@@EwetopiaFarmsLynn, as far as pedigrees go, how far back in generation can you go with your sheep? I use to study my pony's bloodlines asfar back as i could go and match photos with with registered names, it was a ton of fun. Just wondering?
I believe they go 4 generations@@scootytamra
@@EwetopiaFarms Do you get to see photos of ewes and rams from these past generations? It's fun to see if your sheep resemble any of their past family members.
Not really except when we see them in the flock @@scootytamra
I've got a real silly question 🙋 : we've seen curious ewes come to investigate sometimes, when lambs are being bottle fed. Arnie said one was so interested "she must have been a bottle baby". If offered, would such a ewe drink from the bottle? I know there's the occasional cow that will steal milk from one of her dairy mates. 🤔
Some will. I tried this ewe just the other day actually, and she didn't take it. But she definitely wanted the loving!😁
