I watched as many of Yamini's performances as I could during my youth. Her performances were unforgettable, forces of nature, powerful, beautiful, passionate. The memories of those performances linger to this day. I feel so fortunate to have watched her and now feel and emptiness and sadness that she no longer performs. This interview was wonderful.
Excellent interview. I first saw her dance in September 1964 in Bangalore and was washed off my feet. She is my guru who initiated me into the world of dance and music. Her father who gave scholarly introduction and her sister jyothishmathi who gave excellent musical support contributed to her success. She is the one who popularized kuchipudi in addition to bharata natyam and odissi. She will be remembered forever to have introduced Indian classical dance to international audiences.
I am for ever thankful to my father, late K. Sambasiva Rao, Professor of Political Science, Andhra University and our late Mr. K.V. Gopalaswamy; Registrar for having exposed me to various dances drama festivals and competitions in "OPEN AIR THEATER" of our university. IT is there I learnt to appreciate the talent in many directions. If only I have one more life to be born in Siripuram quarters among various professors of many departments.
