Did you know there is a spot in the middle that can fit a bunch of different regular sized minis? I'm not gluing mine together until I have the perfect miniature in the center lol
your not meant to glue it at all really, (well your meant to glue the inner piece to the base of course) but the inner and outer pieces are a tight fit, its this way so that you can put unfortunate adventurers in there when they are attacked by the cube.
the fit is tight enough that it'll just stay together. if you want a bit more grip, add glue as if you were gluing the 2 parts together, but keep rotating the parts until your glue dries. it crates a matte grippy surface. its a lifesaver for interchangeable 40k tank parts.
Ive found that due to the fact that no primer is being used, the paint comes off very easy after you paint the model. So ive tried to seal the model first with matt varnish, then paint it and reseal it again with gloss varnish at the end. It works much better
I really like your color choices. Those ghost tints worked really well. I wonder if spraying the inside of the outer cube would have been more effective? At least you would still have the unpainted glossy plastic on the outside. Very cool model. Thanks for the video!
I have an aasimar that I haven't painted the wings on yet. Can you do a tutorial on aasimar winged model, using alternative to airbrush and Minitaire ghost tint? Thanks
Hands down the best gloss I've found that is crystal clear and self-leveling is Deco Art in the craft paint section. Tough too. I use it for some figures I paint with inks.
Good Video Jarret. Your overall effect was very cool. Perhaps try Testors window cement when gluing two clear parts together, it may eliminate your clouding issues.
I'm not sure how well it would work without trying it myself, but a couple of alternatives came to mind for the gloss coat: 1) You could try Pledge Future Floor wax, which uses a very glossy acrylic sealer, even glossier than most usual acrylic top coats that I've seen in a lot of cases. 2) You could also try acrylic gloss gel medium, though you'd have to apply it in *very* thin coats because its so thick (if you've ever worked with any products designed to create waves and ripples on top of acrylic/epoxy water, its that thick); it would require a lot of care and patience to make sure that it wasn't glooped up anywhere and you couldn't see any brushstrokes (although they do see small foam rollers for painting, presumably to be used for getting corners and around areas of trim and using one of those might get you a nice, smooth coat). All in all, I think this came out fairly well for something I'd call an experiment, since you tend to see clear parts more on model kits and vehicles and generally those don't tend to get painted. I've been considering picking up some of the Ghost Tints to play with; they look like an interesting product and I'm always looking to expand my selection of transparent paints since you can achieve some really cool effects with those types of paints, even over non-transparent surfaces.
I used Future and I think it worked out well. EDIT- Just to add: I first airbrushed the Future wax on and didn't care much for the result. Then I used a brush and put on a way more generous coat and it worked out much better.
Colors looks great! I was thinking of using GW's Glaze products (Guilliman Blue, Waywatcher Green) to achieve a similar effect. But I'll have to wait til my Cube arrives.
Use a Nail polish clear top coat and just pur the bottle on each side and spread it around so its smooth and then let it dry for like a week to be safe because IT WILL show finger prints if not completely dry.. but pur it on dont brush it so it's smooth, and use a straightened paper clip to move it aourn the neet the edges
I like your final effect. (I was thinking about Ghost Tints for this cube, because I've had good luck using them on Reaper Bones slimes; it's nice to see somebody else try that first. 8-) ) I might have gone for colors rather than metals for the non-bone stuff (rusted weapons, painted shield) just to add a bit of hue contrast. For gloss surfaces, you might want to take a look at artists' gloss media. You can get them with nearly any viscosity and they're quite glossy when they set. They're also quite color stable over time, so they won't yellow in normal use.
Painted it without airbrush, using citadel paints, using the 'ardcoat as coat it remains pretty shiny!
Very nice finished result.
Looks nice man

Shawn Wax hah, yep!

Thanks, and yes you have a very good point there :D

I’m going to tell you something. I to, am obsessed with collecting miniatures
Very Cool. A differrnt paint well done. LOVE IT!
Bobby Simpson thanks!

If I don't have an air brush would a more watered down paint work and keep it transparent?
Could try it!
You should use dye-based inks if possible. You can use thinned out paints, but the effect is a lot muddier and you'll need to water them down a lot.
if you have a nice coloured wash you could water that down and use it?
Colors looks great! I was thinking of using GW's Glaze products (Guilliman Blue, Waywatcher Green) to achieve a similar effect. But I'll have to wait til my Cube arrives.
David Schrumpf I think that could work yep!
Проглядели как рисовать? Но теперь его надо сделать! Я - замутил, и ты сможешь 😉
I've used multiple washes on the inside of the cube to brush paint it. It's not as smooth as using an airbrush but good work around.

Cool, good tip1
Looking good man
harvey savage thanks!
If you hadnt glues it, you could get a small led and place it in the center.
Where do you get your minis the stores around me have almost nothing
Eric Cheney a few local stores basically.
You can find most of Nolzurs Marvelous miniatures on Amazon! I personally LOVE them in comparison to the average D&D minis
Dont use Testers varnish, it will make the vinyl sticky forever! You cant paint vinyl with any paint or varnish containing solvent.
My wife is starting to resemble a gelatinous cube
YOU GLUED IT TOGETHER?!?! The point of it is to be able to put a players character inside it, what the crap dude!
