That is ***NOT*** a torrified top. It has some aging toner applied to the top, by the original owner's request. And it currently has a K&K mini pickup.
I sure appreciate the information! That’s why I would not commit to specifying the specs. The inside did not look torrefied to me, but now they’re doing all of this lightly baked stuff, which really doesn’t necessarily change color as much. I know one thing, when you explore the bracing and inside of the top, this is very very stiff Spruce!
That last tune with capo on 5th fret is absolutely one of the beautiful tune that you play to me, I love it
Shawn...you have the best guitar review channel....Thanks!
Brother I sure appreciate that, I don’t know if I deserve it, but I do appreciate it.
Great sounding guitar, and great picking. Nice work, Shawn! Until you've had one in your hands, it's tough to understand how truly wonderful John's guitars are, and he's just as wonderful a person. A treasure. I know I treasure my Arnold guitar.
Wow, a John Arnold guitar!! These are as rare as snow in July. Great playing on a great guitar!
What a Dandy!!! Perfect tone!! Best sounding guitar you’ve demoed in my humble opinion. John has built a HOSS.
Absolutely incredible guitar. Wow!
WOW, powerful! Sounds clean and clear, and powerful!
Yes sir, you are correct about that. John sure knows his business, I can tell you that! I appreciate you watching sir.
That guitar caught my attention with the first strum! Wow!
Exceptional guitar, PERIOD and of course it likes you ;)
Shawn...I have a Goodall TDR Brazilian that sounds very close to this great Arnold guitar.
Man I love Goodalls! Just a nice, big and clean sound in those instruments!
Wow!
I agree; this is one of those that is definitely worth a huge WOW! ☺️
Very nice playing. Shawn would you consider giving a few lessons on how to do some of the riffs you play? Thanks again for your playing.
Hi David, actually if you scroll back through the channel to last year, I had several guitar and mandolin lessons I was doing for sometime, but for some reason they didn’t initiate much of a response. :) yes, I think this summer we will do some more of them and give it a try again. I also give lessons online, and will have more openings for that starting in June. I sure appreciate your kind words about my playing, I’m not sure that I deserve them, but I certainly do appreciate them!
Wow. I've heard a couple Arnold D-18's and they are among the best, but this is the first D-28 I've heard from him, and it's also among the best modern luthier built D-28's I've heard. Big, deep, clear, focused and it has a musical blend to it, rich, punchy, lots of reverb and overtones...this is my favorite of all the guitars you've demoed.
Hey Shawn, Love your playing and videos on these great guitars. I have a suggestion though. You need to mic your vocals. The volume on your vocals/narrative is very low compared to the guitar. This would be an improvement!
Hi Tom, I sure appreciate your thoughts on this. The reason I don’t, is that microphone would also pick up the guitar, and because it would be in the inappropriate position for the guitar, it would make the sound more muddy. What I should really do is talk less, and focus on playing the guitar LOL. Or start doing like most of the shops do, and cut everything down to a one or two minute video.
Hey Shawn, another beauty in sound. Is that D-29 B larger than a Martin D-28 or same size? I live in California, but it seems there are so many great Luthiers back there in Kentucky and Tennessee, I’m jealous. I have two small body Martins and I love them but I would love a John Arnold if you thought he’s the best!
Hey Rob, no, actually is the exact same size as a Martin D-28. It is patterned off of a 1937 that John owns. He is a wonderful maker, repair person and historian. I suppose he just didn’t want to get involved in any type of trademark issues with his numbering.
I'm more of a Mahogany guy. But wow! I like this one. 😁EE
Does this guitar have a "Smoky Mountain" top?
No, it is West Virginia red spruce.
Can anybody give me any insight into what that first song is when he first starts the demo. I’m new to flat picking/bluegrass and I always love that part of his demo.
Starting at the 2 minute mark
Man that is cold Snapshots and Souvenirs, by Mountain Heart. Check it out, it is really a very moving song in my opinion.
@@ShawnBrockMusic awesome! Yep, love it.
Is this guitar still available?
To the best of my knowledge, it isn’t.
