Phil's slow talking is just him in story telling mode.
No that's Heroin mode.
He quit heroin like 2 decades ago, you dumbass
Actually he admits using H during the DOWN II sessions. So who's the dumbass now?
Rayene+ Yeah take up for this ego maniac washed up asshole, who fucked off the best musicians in his time. The Abbot brothers. His new bands couldn't even hold a shit stained candle to Pantera. The band he destroyed for being an asshole, and a heroin addict. Try again.
set video speed to 1.25!
I like to slow the interview down to 0.5 speed to test the Bass on my speakers
😂😂😂
And your patience
dasagood1
Oh yeah Phil has always had a good mix of power in his vocals.
1.5 is where it's "normal"...
People saying he's talking 'slow'?? He's actually being articulate while telling a story without a script. There are no nervous filler bullshit like 'am, am, ah 'uh'...'you know'. The sign of someone who thinks about about what he is saying before saying it and confidently so...
In regards to the album...he's 100% right. Being from Europe (Ireland)...very few people had heard about Pantera until Vulgar came out but not because we 'hated' Pantera but because we just hadn't heard of them. Their record company wouldn't have sold Cowboys here without the band being proven and vise versa for European bands
Agreed good sir. London here; I remember hearing Mouth For War on MTV, my first exposure to them, and a few months later saw them at the Marquee (1991). For £10. Incredible show and from that moment on they were one of my favourites.
Amen.
But he is saying umm and shit
Evergreen Frat guy had a heroin addiction that he has been open about for decades so please before posting long stupid shit get a clue
Exactly🤘
I was so hoping Phil would say:
"Vulgar Display of Power took Pantera, and the world of metal, to
A NEW LEVEL, OF POWER
AND CONFIDENCE!
THAT'S RIGHT!!!"
🎸🎸💥🔥🎶💪
ahahahahaha
One of the Pantera shows I saw was opened by white zombie, around the time of Astro creep. They had a giant stage setup, very intricate with lazers and smoke and a giant demon blah blah. Rob couldn't do vocals for maore than about five seconds before running out of gas and the band was passable. Then Pantera comes out with some lights and their magnificent selves, that's it. They smoked white zombie and played tighter than any live band I've ever seen. My heart broke when they broke up, again when Dime was killed, and yet again last weekend when we lost Vinnie. I am grateful to have Rex and Phil still among is though. Pantera was my Beatles.
kevin ivory.. I'll tell you what broke me down is the thought that Phil actually said Dimebag should be beaten severely and posed on the cover of metal Hammer Magazine with Dimebag space in the knife blade and that crazy guy Nathan got a gale have that magazine and he ... read it and that's why darrell died.
😨😨😨🙃😤
I saw them at that same tour. I remember the elaborate White Zombie setup. Then Pantera came out with nothing but their GSTK backdrop and kicked fuckin ass.
Zombie live is decent at best, these guys are REAL musicians. Just like you said, no crazy stage gimmicks needed or anything-just good old ass whooping.
Yes...yes indeed!! Same!! Pantera was my Beatles!!!
Awesome, we'll said
Vulgar Display of Power is arguably the most groundbreaking record in the history of Metal. Pantera is easily top 5 all-time. Just think of how much they accomplished in a short period of time.
Texas Turner they where around a long time before then.
Texas Turner Vulgar is awesome but I really like the production of FBD...Terry Date did a fabulous job in creating the sound of the album
I like Cowboys from Hell better TBH
15 years together isnt THAT short of a period, but yes i agree.
Vdop was pure pantera at their best. Songwriting guitar drums. All of it i like fbd but it it didnt have the tightness as vdop did
I agree with Phil. No one will surpass Pantera. They took heavy to infinity. I came from a love affair with Metallica, and then I heard Pantera Vulgar Display and it blew my mofo mind at age 18, it was a perfect match for where I was at and I recognized the musicianship to be world class.
Greatest. Metal. Singer. Ever.
kornfreak78 D I O
Aye, Dio was amazing. But for me? Dio is among the LEGEND status. Dio, Ozzy, Lemmy.. among others. Guys like that are in a whole other level.
kornfreak78 very true ..
he is up there for sure. his energy was unmatched. he was as much of pantera as dimebag to me and it breaks my heart that it all ended so tragically. bot only with dimes death but how ugly it got between them beforehand. but it almost feels fitting that a brutal end to the most intense metal bands of all time. i love ya dime and god bless you phil. legends. rex and vinnie are bad asses too but they took backseat to the power that was the frontmen
I'd say he's definitely in the top five with Dickinson, Halford, and Dio!
phil 's sharpness/ quickness in the way he talks has gotten so much better compared to 3 - 4 years ago. great job, phil!
His interviews took forever to watch haha he talked like a fucking sloth back then, glad to see him getting back to kicking ass
It's called Soma! Google it.
LambOfLucifer i thought that was just a smashing pumpkins song
It is a very powerful muscle relaxant. Phil used the drug for many years and it definately slowed down his speech. Added to the fact that he is a southern man, and they naturally tend to have a slow deep southern accent as they age. As for the speed he talks at, that is totally deliberate. It is a man attempting to really focus on what he says, as he has had alot of issues with media in the past.
I saw Pantera for the first time when they were on that Suicidal & Exodus tour, I want to say it was 1990? . And I ran into Gary Holt from Exodus at the bar before the show and he told me to check this band Pantera out. The rest is history. It was fucking awesome. I will never forget that shit.
such a deep and majestic voice, I wonder if he's ever thought of becoming a voice actor. imagine his voice on void from berserk
Hell yeah! He'd make a great Decepticon!
Huge sounding voice. He would make a great voice actor.
Can't help the feeling of getting sad everytime I see one of the bands members. Damn! it's just fucking heartbreaking how Pantera has ended so early. Not even mentioning the level of misfortune and tragedy on how Dimabag has left us...
You have my full support and love, Phil. Pantera fans are with you. #onelove #IKnowYouHateHashtags
This love
Saw them open for Skid Row back when I was a teenager and yes Skid Row got their ass handed to them.
Colostomy Grab-Bag I can imagine. Amazing stuff. Not jealous at all. Haha
Saw that same tour in 92....in Ft Worth, Tx. A hometown show for Pantera. And yes indeed, Skid Row got destroyed!
Awesome....😁🤘
So bad that they toughened up & put out Slave To The Grind.
and .....................Europe ................................saw ................................us ..........................................at ........................our ............................stro.n.......g................zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz zz z
Axel the Frank fucking nailed it!
love the valknut
lol I'm listening to this on 1.25x speed right now. And it's better, for sure. But he still sounds like he's speaking real slow and in a foreboding manner.
fuck i miss pantera
Still
Rocking them in 2021:). Getcha pull!!
When Phill says that vulgar display of power is a better record than cow boys from hell i couldnt help but think all your records are the best
Best band to ever punch a whole in the music industry! EVER MAN!!! ,😎👊 When Phil shaved his head, we did too, in High School. Long lifer follower of Pantera and PHILIP!!! 💋💗
*hole*
Yes, hole!*
Yes, hole!* my auto correct keeps taking over!
Yes, hole!* my auto correct keeps taking over!
Heh...hole
1:07 ''and we were packing out C L U B S
yeah dude :D this got me hard
Phil is the man. As far as heavy metal goes, nobody could touch them. 🤟🏼
5:33 that good ol' smirk
Why can't Phil do stand up on the side? For real. Every interview he cracks me up lol
The Electrocist He doesn't even have to try to be funny. That's how you know someone is funny!!
If you making comments about Phil talking slowly your missing the depth of what he is saying. He might talk ‘slow’ but he is articulate, concise, on point and honest and what he says is well thought. And that is more than most
Who else feels like a BOSS, just for being a Metal head and knowing what Phil's chatting about ;)
Living in the time, the era it all happened !!! Awesome ... and, YO, phil just finding the right words for such a monumental happening.
This is UA-cam, and you get judged for this kinda thing ... 3:03 ... spot on, Bro, spot on ... 5:20 ... recognise, learn, and understand ...
Yep the good ol days before the pc culture and the pussy's that call theirselves men nowadays....
They Killed it! The live show was fucking awesome! I got to see them several times in their prime and there will never be another band like pantera ever again.
Love Phil and Dime(RIP) and Vinnie(RIP) and Rex... Most Powerful Group I've ever listened to and seen Live!! \,,/ I truly understand those Pits too! Spent an hour and a half in one that show... Metal-Heads Know the Rules and treat each other with Respect,, whilst Jammin and Slammin!! \,,/ for a Fun Time, Dudes... I recommend watching "Cooking Hostile" It's Hilarious! :D :D :D
His voice is huge powerful just talking.
Good 'ol cocky Phil. I've been missing him.
Pantera is a remarkable band. I'm fortunate to have met them at the Paladium in Hollywood for this album. Thanks Darrell!
I don't think he's ACTUALLY slow, I think he's just very confident and likes to take his time when speaking. Atleast he's not rushing like a nervous little pussy!
Also, can you imagine playing on the same show AFTER Pantera? xD That would be devastating!
Yeah. In his interviews back in the day he used to talk a little slower and smarter like he does now. And after all the drug and alcohol abuse what can you expect? I hope he gets better with time though.
Phil's obviously a confident guy, but this is what years on the downers does to people. Watch the Pantera home videos. He's a shell of his former self these days.
no dude, that's heroin.
Sky Vins... No shit lol
@@elspookso8414 Nah this is probably the best Phil since those days, the heroin days of Phil was when he was a shell of his former self, that guy was a disaster.
Idc what anyone has to say I love this man
Phil is metal. He breathes, eats, shits metal. What a legend.
And sleeps in his motley crue pyama
Agree...CFH was a great preamble/transition album, but the pure essence of Pantera showed perfectly with VDOP.
Then, FBD was the super hardcore, refined, well crafted masterpiece that knocked my chonies off, and kicked my ass from head to toe, and the rest is history! 🙌🖤🔥🤘🔥💪🔥👊
Every time I listened to Far Beyond Driven my testosterone levels increased! Lol 💪🔥🤘🔥👊
Love how Phil talks, he is creative and extremely engaging
Thanks Loudwire. These videos are awesome!!!!
Phil should be a therapist or a psychologist, he seems so chill, like honestly
TEXAS PRIDE!!!! Damn straight! Don't mess with TEXAS!!! .......And Louisiana.💪🏼
TX is the true America and I'm from WA
BEST ALBUM
The band he's talking about embarrassing is Megadeth btw. They toured with Pantera in early '92, when the album was new
His voice is perfect for doom metal! 🤘
x1.25 speed and his talking still feels slow
And even at x1.50.
Then why watch? Dumbasses.
Then why not? Dumguitars.
You Must Be A New Fan
KiidDynamiite Not really, just joking about this
When that album came out we were all blown away. Shit, it still blows me away. The older I get, the more I appreciate the last two albums too.
You gotta give this guy 30 minutes for 1 story hahaha. Love you Phil!! RIP Vinnie Paul!
LEGEND.
such a great interview and storyteller
I've always liked Pantera and I'm just happy that Phil, Rex, and Vinnie are still alive. Phil seems to be doing better, just hope it stays that way. RIP Dimebag
RIP Vinnie P.
if you have asked me 15 years ago who would have died first, i would have said phil 100% sure, i mean he died and revived in 96 and was still going on with the dope after that, he survived because both his good genes and because his (late) will to stop.
I saw Pantera open for Megadeth at the NEC Birmingham in 1992; and Phil is correct - they absolutely smoked em. Turned me into a fan that night.
Saw Pantera become the headliner in Long island NY 1994/ Sepultura cancelled and that made Pantera the Top of the Bill, with Prong opening the Show. That show kicked major Azzes 🤘🤘🤘🤘
I saw Superjoint and awhile back and Phil tries to get a good ol fashion circle pit going, but it rarely happens.
I think it mostly has to do with the age of his fans. Most are old and overweight, sorry for the generalisation lol. I recently saw a video of a show he did with Scour (awesome EP btw) and you can see the crowd breathing heavily.
I clung to a pole at a super joint show it was epic!
They opened for Nirvana at the Aragon Brawlroom in Chicago, I remember the little grunge guys being scared shitless of all the metal heads
most refreshing look back......truth.........😶...............we know who we are.....thanks Mr, Anselmo.
I think Pantera's first true album was CFH, although Vulgar Display of Power is really their masterpiece
Random Username ok they had what 3 albums before that 1 with Phil and two with terry?
John Rasimovich Actually They had four, Metal Magic, Projects in the Jungle and I am the Night, with Terry, and Power Metal with Phill, if I'm not miataken.
@@joseclaudio5569 those don't count 😂
I need more Phil interviews on some of my favorite podcasts.JRE,LPOTL,Bonfire, Jim Norton....
RIP DBD&VP CFHFOREVER.
Poor guy looks like he's in a daze throughout but still as funny and as compelling as ever. Good to hear him pay tribute to the masterpiece.
This dude literally talks like Treebeard from LOTR
I think Phil is the most Badass man on the planet
Love this man!!
What a fascinating individual. He speaks about those days so lucidly that you can almost put yourself in their shoes. Almost.
This dude is like Kratos from GOW.
I seen them support Megadeth in Dublin at the SFX in 1993 on the Vulgar album tour......and they destroyed Megadeth, NO CONTEST !!
That's because Megadeth are such a boring, lifeless live band. All show-off, zero substance. Pantera had soul, energy and balls of steel, and that's what a band truly needs to put on a great live show!
Alex Kalfakis there is not one single megadeth song that you can mosh to. Swear.
supreme master and guru of metal
The two of them were the most influential. To make the band like a panther be-The best band of various directions, from blues to rock jazz, funky hip hop and, Gives that powerful Metal, an extraordinary sound.
Got caught up in my very first moshpit on this tour in ‘93.....literally shit my pants and then realized I needed more. Epic stuff!
Must be the power of the Axl Rose candle
Haha when I saw the candle I was like wtff. Too funny 😁
Top 5 metal records released. Fight me. So much energy to that album .
In ATL I saw Prong,Sepultura,Motor Head opened up for Pantera;you all talking about Pantera opening up for others
Pantera. Still listen and play pantera.
Got to see them in 96 for Trendkill and again for reinventing the steel.. Hands down the best..
GOD DAMN PHIL.... AWSOME!!! I know how he feels... but punk rock. "Unemployed". (guitarist). We were killer in that scene too. I'm 42 now.
Very few metal albuns had the impact Vulgar had back then. I agree with Phil, it is the most important album in Pantera's career, and one of the most important in history of the genre.
Seen em at an ozzfest and he's right..Godsmack basically got boo'd off stage..crowd chanting Pantera threw all 5 songs they played..maybe they only played 4....I loved it
I love to listen to Phil talk almost as much as sing.
Phil the man!!
If I was an interviewer I would ask Phil "What is the source of your pain that is written all over your face and in your voice?"
I wish I could meet Philip
One of the ways to be Phil is to say a word every minute.
Phil is doing the best Jake "The Snake" Roberts impression i've seen.
When Phil was younger (CFH days) he was a rapid fire with his responses...and fucking hilarious...there is a remarkable shift in Phil's demeanor after TGSTK was released...but, he's always been thoughtful with his responses
There Hollywood show in 92 was fucking insane
Phils the man
Dudes.....what This man is speaking of is as raw and as real as it gets...if you can't respect this shit Phil is speaking of...then you are dead inside!!!!And I am dead inside..so I respect you at the same time!!!
I really want that Negative Approach hoodie. Sick band.
I can't believe this is the voice of the song "Cemetery Gates"
.Respect.
Phil Anselmo is best listened to at Playback Speed: 1.25
Well aren't quite sure which part Europe he is referring to but the UK loved them! I saw them opening for Megadeth on the Vulgar tour on 27th Sept 1992 and they did just as he said absolutely smoked Megadeth, who however did up their usual performance because of it and if I recalled rightly Darrell joined them on stage at one point . . . either way it was one of the best concerts I have ever attended (and I've attended many!).
My childhood music
1:08-1:09 "We were packin' out CLUBS"
I have the review of metal forces and there s the video of the whole show on the tube of The Acardia theatre , july 1988 , more than 1400 people .
0:52 Playback at 0.25x speed through 1:10. You will not be disappointed.
He's a thinker and very individual
I fucking love the Axl Rose candle!
I love VDOP but for me it was THE GREAT SOUTHERN TRENDKILL that truly cemented PANTERA as the KINGS OF METAL!
Good ol Phil, Still talking @ 0.5 kph.
Good ol Ham.....still trying to make irrelevant comments for attention.
I saw Pantera a half dozen times, the show where Sepultura and Biohazard opened for them was amazing. Pantera was the best band, but Sepultura gave them a hard run. If Pantera didnt come out with a super strong performance, it would have been Sepultura's night ... and it almost was ... they were that good. Biohazard was really good, but they were a nice break from the absolute metal assault of those 2 bands. Like a hardcore sorbet.
I saw Pantera in 1995 3 times with Sepultura, Type-O-Negative, and Prong respectively. All 3 shows let's just say the other 3 opening bands were a moot point and after thought! Pantera kicked ASS ALL 3 times!
sepultura and pantera? holy shit
Vulgar Display of Power
Best Album Ever
Fight Me
Far beyond driven its better
You spelled The Great Southern Trendkill wrong
There best album in my opinion
speed 1.25 amd now we are talking :)
vulgar display of power is my favorite Pantera album
Fuki love this dude
Preacher Anselmo is in session! "Someone stagedives, you catch 'em". Word.
