SC400 owner here I gotta say a few things here: The compression and hp bump came in 1995, not 1996. And the VVT-i was added in 1998, not 97. However, the original models have SUPER thick rods, which let the original motor have the ability to be built to nearly 800whp. And, the A340e automatic trans is both very comfortably to live with, and never gets in the way like other 4 speed autos. And, they are good for 650hp, after you go to a shift kit. They're SUPER good for boosting, more so than the JZ version due to hypereuctectic pistons and an oversquare design. Also, CAIs are a bad idea here. Unless you go for a full boxed intake, you're going to have all power gains robbed by heat soak, so even though it looks janky, you're better off carving the front of your stock intake than buying that tube from autozone. Oh, also. The ECU is a Massive, I mean, MASSIVE bitch to deal with from 1992-1995 (you're not gonna have fun with this if you get a late 1994-1995 model especially) due to the ECU's capacitors having a nearly 100% chance of popping and taking out the whole ass computer with it, and the ecu vendors are both lacking in support and quite sketchy. Not to mention, a piggyback is a temporary solution, when if you want to truly make power, you need a standalone. But, seriously. These are amazing cars, and I was a proponent of AWD before buying my darling. If you're like me and want a tuner car that's a bit mature, and more so, comfortable to drive in real-world situations, you need one of these. The glowing reviews don't do it justice, you NEED to drive one to feel it. (Also, I strongly suggest getting some Parts Shop Max coilovers.
