Delightful video Ken, surprisingly decent sound too, good work there! Gotta love the size of that Johnny Smith guitar and the beautiful tone Mary Halvorson gets out of it.
Oh well, same old shit. Suiting to arrange this festival in the winter time, this art form is in total hibernation.
Well, the MUSIC is not the same old shit. Every venue was well attended, lines around the block.
Everyone playing their ass off for sure but they should call it the "Anything But" Jazz fest
Matana Roberts is one of the finest soprano saxophonist working today. If you check out the Pedro Martens section, they cover fine and lovely by weather report written by Joe Zawinul i believe. Elsa Nelson and her band are from a long line of brilliant, jazz musicians, based in Brazil. Mark Giuliana has his New Jersey quartet which is full on swing, and they have recorded vinyl. This is not a jazz festival Headed by rock musicians. Everyone in this festival swings their ass off. Mary Halvorson is not only an experimental guitarist but she is playing the guitar designed for Johnny Smith, one of her heroes. Do you know who he is? Did you check out imManuel Wilkins? There is one of the greatest jazz performances I’ve seen in years, drummer sumbrey swings his ass off. And if you think David Murray, Gary Bartz, Billy Hart, and Shabaka Hutchings aren’t jazz musicians, then you have no idea what the word means
