What are your opinions on NASCAR’s new EV prototype and EV racing in general?
Not gonna lie, I don't understand the hate. Like, yeah, the roar of the engines is iconic and electric wouldn't be the same, but we haven't even seen a single race. Give it a chance, right?
@@TheIceberg they need to get rid of the wing. It's ugly in my opinion
@@zarejonathanGoddamn Liberuuls ruining NASCAR and making it goe woke
The car in my opinion, looks more as a E-TCR but it is a early build and i respect it,But i hope for one thing only.
HOPE THAT THE WING AND THE DESIGN ARE CHANGED FOR THE FINAL PRODUCTS.
I watch nascar because i love the racing not because i like the sound of the cars. And since going electric is the only way NASCAR will last a decade into the future I am very pleased with this.
I like how they used ICE sounds to make this promo interesting.
@@herewegoagain7403 the drivers will be making race car noises into the mics, like kids playing with hot wheels on coffee tables.
what a joke lol
Well, Hyundai IONIQ 5 N has fake engine noise and fake gear shifting for the "challenged" drivers.
There must be a rule somewhere that says any vehicle designed as an EV has to look like the ugliest, frankstein version of a normal car.
1000% this.
KIA has the most normal looking evs that at least looks like an actual Kia vehicle.
NASCAR gave us an EV Prototype before GTA VI
lmao
Be original
That Porsche looking EV prototype looked good. I am not a foreign car lover, but the EV prototype in sports car looked amazing.
I honestly think NASCAR should move more towards the Garage 56 Prototype. Hybridization would bring a lot of people together. You get the benefit of the big V8 and the added power of electrification. Innovative and AWD NASCAR could be pretty wild. They'd just stick to the road and go!
this should be more liked... the 56 did not had the same flaws of F1 engines, that drastically reduced RPM
If "climate change" WASN'T fear based mind control that is built on guilt to control and eventually destroy all wealth and prosperity I would agree. I'm not "coming together" with fools who fall for government lies. "Climate change" should have taken the East coast by 2000. All of their predictions have not come to fruition. It Is all lies!
WRC runs hybrids and those cars are wicked.
This is a great point!
@@Jfunkey I still think all cars should have some sort of headlights and tail lights, even if just LED. To make them look more realistic, and maybe even provide some illumination on late ending races, like new Hampshire
Ok.
If NASCAR Wants To Go Electric, They Need To Be A Separate Series, Like What The FIA Did.
imagine all electric cars, with 40 diesel powered generators running in the infield
🥴🥴🥴🥴🥴🥴🥴🥴
I am not inbred enough to image such idiocy. I have been NOT buying gasoline since 2014 charging both my EV's with FREE solar. Stupid people love to pay for fuel.
Full scale Slot Cars
"Green" handles on the diesel pumps 😂
Imagine going to a Nascar race that is fully indoors, and the whole building is made from solar siding and solar roofing to power up all the cars.
The Prototype is quite groundbreaking, but I don't think EV racing will ever have the same impact that many other racing series have had for decades. The racing product can be great, but the noise of the cars are part of what make them and the sport attractive
This, I really like EV's, as daily drivers and commuters they are fantastic, and you can dress them up to be very fun cars to drive too.
But for motorsport, I just can't see them ever matching the imperfection and agility of ice powered cars enough to be able to create a decent spectacle without the noise, and in general, I don't think they need too. We can use sustainable fuels and other expensive technology to transition motorsport into a more climate conscious future.
Idk I like engine noise too but if these cars race better it could be come more popular
1300 horsepower would be awesome
The point is to innovate and get fans maybe excited for hybrid. I think it is showing what we can do and slowly introducing fans to hybrid as a transitional technology.
@@scottmcqueen3964Hybrid would do a lot since they recover energy much better than ICE.
My question is why do they have a giant wing on the back? Did nobody learn from the Car of Tomorrow?
As for NASCAR EVs, I would most certainly prefer to have them be its own sub-series.
I suspect that NASCAR built this car mostly for road course racing and not intermediate ovals. The wing shouldn’t be an issue at the lower speeds of a typical road course.
@@tescoshortage this looks more like a TCR car
I doubt this car even has roof flaps, will mainly be used for road courses and short tracks
So like Formula E
Almost every major racing series in the world, except NASCAR, runs a rear wing on road courses and ovals and they don't have any major problems.
One: this thing is eerily similar to a TCR car.
Two: nascar may be dumb, but they will not go fully electric in Cup. If they do, they are dead. Or the fans are dumber than I thought (in case they keep watching).
Three: I think the correct way to introduce electric in the Cups series is a hybrid, a project closer to Garage 56. And make a spec series for electrics that can train nascar drivers in road courses, because the overall driving of nascar in those is very bad, a ton of going outside or making a super radius in a given turn.
They literally can't go electric, they'd only be able to run for a few minutes before needing to charge.
Two concerns:
1. How do you have these cars last 300, 400, 500, or even 600 miles? Yes, more company's are doing a better job with charging, but it has been well documented that electric and high speeds equal less distance. Charging these cars instantly, like the ICE counterpart, is the big issue.
2. Fires. Fires are a part of Nascar. They are relatively easy to put out. The problem is with the new electric design. I recall reading an article that said (paraphrasing) firefighters are not willing to put out electric fires because the lithium batteries could explode, severely injuring those firefighters. I also recall a situation where a burning Tesla had to be dropped into a pool of water just to put the fire out. What happens if this happens in Nascar? Can Nascar properly keep each driver safe, as most cars have their electric powertrain underneath them. What happens if there is a wreck and the batteries get damaged? Can Nascar keep their drivers safe while they are driving these cars? I just do not think this technology, as cool as it is, is ready for the track.
of course its not ready its literally a prototype lmao
Formula E does it. So I don’t see why NASCAR can’t

Electric cars have so much torque, I feel like you’d really have to drive the car or you would just kill the tires so that would be interesting and the variations in tire wear along with the extra horsepower would be crazy
I don't think the tires would be a problem cuz Goodyear can make a tire that would run 500 miles we're already watching them they can't make one that wears out or they won't make one that wears out put it that way😂

That movie felt almost prophetic!
EVs are for the manufacturers, not the people. NASCAR needs to keep this in mind going forward and not forget where they came from.
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
The sport needs the manufacturers to keep the racing. Without manufacturers, there is no racing. That’s the big problem: there is a divide between the manufacturers and the consumers. Quite personally, I feel like more ppl would have accepted this if EVs weren’t so heavily politicized, but because they are, this divide is a thing
@mrsoisauce9017 with the way EVs have been politicized I want nothing to do with this series...a few years ago sometimes like this but with cars akin to the Dash Series probably would've been pretty cool, but no, just no.
@@PaperBanjo64 I have nothing against EVs, and even less against EV race cars (I’m a fan of Formula E), but the politicization of them still pisses me off. I get that they have advantages, but they shouldn’t be pushed as the end all be all. That is for the consumer to decide. Besides, even from an environmental perspective, the EV push overlooks all of the ICE cars already on the road that desperately need to be decarbonized. A dual effort incorporating EVs and eFuels would be the most beneficial approach, as it allows for fast decarbonization in more vehicles while also leaving the market open for advancing technology and giving the consumer maximum choice in what they can own and drive
@@mrsoisauce9017 I watched Formula E myself when it was new, with them sounding like leaf blowers I found it amusing but enjoyed the racing product, but they lost me with the way they promoted the out of the grove (ha ha Eric Estepp) power boost as a "Mario Kart" kinda thing and really haven't watched it since then.

I would call it NASCAR Volt and have it as an option for drivers who are good enough for Xfinity but not quite to cup, like a development series
I think a separate series would be ok like formula e is to formula 1
I hope this becomes a sub-series like Formula E. Could help with the brand
especially for road/street racing
as someone whos been to a couple formula e races, ev racing isnt the problem. the problem is battery recharging rate and where the energy comes from. the biggest downside is the lack of noise.
the day nascar goes EV the day it dies
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Yeah sure
@@JackLikesTrackhouse nothing says testosterone like silent cars .
By the time its premiere series goes full ev, will be the day, that most of the haters will have the proper infrastructure in place. Again, this ev thing has zero effect on current top 3 series racing. I wish folks will get that through their head.
There is two things going on with ev cars: massive over hype and massive disinformation. There is plenty of middle ground, though, to still have critical thought and discussion. Separate series. Good. Replacing the top 3 or especially top 2 = bad. Formula E is still steps lower than F1 & F2 correct?
It's Nascar simply trying to get new oems and capitalize off the ev movement. Which even in good ole Bristol TN, I've seen a big boom in evs on the road. No God awful cyber truck yet.
If it was a fourth series it might be interesting to see how they run on the different types of tracks out there if it doesn’t replace anything we have now
This is just NASCAR keeping up with the times. I HIGHLY doubt they’ll replace any of the top series with electric vehicles ANYTIME soon, if ever. At most this will be its own series.

@@JackLikesTrackhouse😂
I think the future of the Cup series is still hybrids at the moment, but I would absolutely support an all-electric series. Formula E is fun racing, it provides a solid template for an all electric series working out.
I'd put my money down to see these things flying around IRP, North Wilkesboro, Martinsville, etc. Would be a fun way to reinvigorate short tracks around the country
The only way I can see this working is if they set up a NASCAR stadium series (considering they want to do oval). They have a season traveling around to stadiums all over the country and have their tiny 1/4 miles tracks, like Los Angeles. They would be extremely boring on big tracks with no sound. Now, if they want do them on road courses only, then they may get some fans on the road side.
With Dana White he’s talking about Nitro Rallycross partnering with NASCAR as Nitrocross already uses EV in their group E class. Whether he’s behind the NASCAR EV Prototype potential series has yet to be seen.
nice to see NASCAR once again fail to learn from the CoT and NOT put big-ass spoilers on stock cars.
Here's the thing- This car will likely not race at high-speed ovals like the COT did. This car was built for short track and road course racing in mind. The wing will help, not hinder or be a liability to safety, as it was on the COT.
The wing isn't going to be a problem.

The NASCAR CrossOver series just found it’s body’s
It looks like if the COT (2007-early 2010 COT) had a child with an electric european hatchback.
I think this car would work perfectly during the winter months in the south or indoor stadiums, keeps NASCAR on TV, and gives the fans racing to watch when theres not much racing on
Honestly I don’t get it because then everyone will have to crowd the safety fence just to be able to hear the cars going by. But it’s worth a shot at trying it at least.
Why not do a hybrid car?
Nascar. We are not going ev.
Also Nascar
🥴🥴🥴🥴🥴🥴
I don't think an all electric NASCAR would work, but I think NASCAR should invest in development of a hybrid engine like the ones used in Formula 1 or Indycar. Both Formula 1 and Indycar have a push to pass feature and I think this can translate well in more passes on the track. If NASCAR does do an EV series, they will have to invest heavily in protection from fire caused by a crash.
Omg I didn’t even know they were announcing this and I just stumbled apon it at the track.
What an experience to see it happen in real time
0:19 No, Nascar doesnt have a "holy trinity", it has a holy QUARTET, Power, Speed, Innovation and V8'S!!! A Nascar without a V8 is not a Nascar

Yeah imagine them trying to put out a EV fire on track....this is such a bad idea for 1000s of reasons....someone should start a series that isnt driven by the money...but top notch drivers like pre 2000s
I think if they want to introduce electric at all to NASCAR, the hybrid route is def the way to go. Maybe if there's a way to combine the current 550 or 675 hp package with a 500-700 hp boost from an electric motor or system without too much weight gain, that would be a great way to introduce an electric system. I'd also be curious if there'd be something like F1's DRS during oval races, that could be pretty cool.
i think it is hard, because on some ovals there is hardly any breaking... and there is no way to make a turn with DRS open.
Besides, DRS will be extinct, in the current form, when the new F1 regulations kick in
1400 hp would be a bit high, maybe cut it to 1000 hp combined (600 gas, 400 electric or 500 each).
@@Dartingleoparda small block engine like early Indy Racing League with a hybrid would be amazing, especially if the cars are heavier, harder to drive, and don't stop like a dime like the next gen cars...these next gen cars drive too good on short tracks and road courses, and adding weight to it would offset how good they drive.
@polycube868 Nascar uses small block engines already, just go from 5.8 litre displacement to 3.5 or 4.0 and raise the redline back to 11000 or even 12000 rpm and then it would be like a cross between early Indy Racing League and 90s Nascar sound.
Think it makes sense to do a short 6 or 8 race electric series to introduce it.
Fully electric flagship NASCAR series would have to wait until the country finally transitions fully in the late 2030s or early 2040s.
Social and corporate acceptance are just not there yet
Don't forget the infrastructure still isn't ready for EVs. California has started to do rolling blackouts to conserve energy
Bro the car doesn’t even look like a nascar they just ruined the car and everything about it I’d bet some drivers would leave.
Damn you dana white!
So do they plan on making a separate series for EVs? I think that’s the way to go. Keep the cup series its own thing.
Now Cup needs to add rear wings again. This time a more advanced design similar to GT3 spec cars.
No
Here’s what I’ll say, are electrics good? Yes there not bad cars, I for one wouldn’t own one but there’s nothing wrong, is it bad NASCAR is making an electric car……also no, the sport is trying something new and again, it’s a prototype, I’m actually kinda interested to see what’s next
Awesome! If this happens I'll start watching NASCAR.
A) Iceberg raid
B) The car looks ugly and it is electric(so shorter races and no fuel strategy). The other problem is the demand is coming from companies who stand to make money and is being pushed by those with an agenda(the average person is going to be paying more for a less capable vehicle). Not the average fan. This isn't like the computers of the 90s or the smart phones of the late 2000s/2010s which grew massively because of natural demand for those products. If they make it as a separate short race series more power to them. But there is so much baggage with electric right now that it might not be the boon Nascar thinks it will be. Another multi million dollar investment by these OEMs only for it to not translate to the general public as poll after poll shows the majority of American drivers prefer ICE to Electric.
i think the best way to successfully integrate an electric series is to take full control over its specific strengths. for instance its a con they don't make noise, but its also a pro, if they aren't a public disturbance it's likely easier to make racing in locations totally impossible before like maybe touring football stadiums or simply race closer to city centers. of course there are still the traffic and other aspects that may get in the way but it is still an advantage
I know street cricuits are a new thing in Nascar, but this would be a perfect series for many street races.
@@otaviofrn_advit certainly would since it doesn't make noise anyways.
There could be some very cool innovations made here ...
I wanna see battery changing tech
It's 1000HP & it's a really cool hatchback body? I'm all for this. People hear EV and get triggered, but I see no downsides to trying this out as it's own series.
I think it would be awesome as a street course/stadium series. We’ve seen how awesome stock cars are on street courses. I just with they would make it look more stock car like
instead of COT now it's gonna be POS.
I think the NASCAR EV would actually work really well as a return to all short tracks. There would be more braking and regen instead of a superspeedway being flat out 100% of the time. This would also be good at short tracks because most of them face issues with noise complaints. Im not personally a fan of EV's but I strongly believe that this would be the best way it could work
Gotta be honest, if the only problems are it’s not as loud and the design looks a little weird , then we don’t have any actual problems.
In my opinion, the biggest thing that Electric NASCAR needs, is an ungodly amount of gear whine.
Why does it have to be a crossover, its so ugly
Just make the trucks electric already
For the sound component, making the races multiclass would remedy that, or make the next generation a V8 hybrid to incorporate the electric powerplant into the series. Hybrid might make the racing more interesting if you can dial in how you deploy it between economy and performance. There are other things that need to go before strategy will properly open up, but it would definitely be a step in the right direction.
Lol “horsepower”. We could easily turn up the Hp in the current engines. We’ve made plenty before without creating endless battery waste.
If they did it as its own EV road course series, I would be more supportive of it. But my main contentions are that it completely changes the whole fuel strategy, unless the batteries won’t last a whole race and they have to charge mid race, which will take forever and would most likely be running on diesel generators, defeating the purpose of EV. But most importantly, EV’s are far more dangerous. Since the latest generation of cup car was released, we’ve heard of how the car is potentially more dangerous in hits than before. EV’s are substantially more dangerous. They’re heavier and are filled with combustible batteries that are hard to put out once ignited.
I hope this gets a push for money at the tracks this series races at. A few places dont race in the dark because the roads around the track aren't lit.
Imagine a push for renewable energy for the EV series and they get funding to turn the parking lots at the track into solar farms that provide shade over the parking.
Imagine the local funding boon when the local track becomes a massive energy infrastructure source?
This is a great opourtunity, as long as the sport and the fans dont look a gift horse in the mouth.
im okay with it as long as its like a Tuesday night thing. a mid week racing series seems like a good fit for this.
maybe Corey Lajoie and Harrison Burton could be frontrunners.
I would rather see a whole new series, a EV NASCAR series than replace any existing cars in any other series. It should be it’s own series.
As a Formula E fan in addition to NASCAR (who attended the Formula E race in Portland last weekend) I view any EV series that NASCAR wants to start as a supplemental series, very similar to how Formula E is viewed as a supplementary open wheel series to F1 & Indycar. Who knows this may even lead to the FIA sanctioning a world championship for EV stock cars again in a similar way to how Formula E became a world championship. Even if the world championship idea does not get off the ground, I agree with Iceberg that new OEM's would jump onboard with a NASCAR EV series if it gets off the ground. If NASCAR is truly serious about starting such a project, they really need to consult with the people who run Formula E because they set the template for how an all electric racing series is run & marketed considering the fact that they were the first.
The boomers must be fuming right now
I'd be happy to see it as a standalone series. Would not want to see it replace the Xfinity or Cup series though.
I know it's just a prototype and we should take it with a grain of salt. But when NASCAR does something like this, they probably wouldn't just do it for a showpiece.
The EV Prototype has some BTCC vibe for me.
Yeah
How about no. Go watch Formula E and tell me that you find it to be riveting edge of your seat excitement. Seriously, who asked for this?
“Guys we have to pit, I’m running low on electricity!” *one battery swap later* GO GO GO
Make an all woman electric series with about 16 cars and 12 races a year. I'm serious about that.
The Prius series
If people like the noise ,then Why do they wear ear protection?
We like the noise and we like being able to hear, they still sound amazing with hearing protection, these cars are as loud as 36+ rock concerts going on all at the same time!
The only way I see EV nascar working without some kind of track altering gimmick is by making it the unquestionable most horsepower car circuit racing series in history. That's a lot of qualifiers, but the big keys are bigger numbers than F1, Can AM, and anything that's looked at Lemans especially in qualifying trim.
For a single lap those EV need to push 1600, even at the sake of being twitchy and undriveable.
Otherwise what bite do they have over a standard stock car outside of being able to go to a couple road courses like Leguna Seca and Limerock?
I think it could be really interesting racing on short tracks and other tracks with a lot of off throttle time. These cars have instant torque and horsepower. Could you imagine how fast they could run coming off the corner at a place like north wilkesboro or martinsville? Take short track racing to an entirely new level. Now def not replacing the gas cars by any means but just another series of cars could be very interesting and fun.
i can already imagine nascar ev series battle between tesla and byd could be awesome
Just do what Formula did and make a NASCAR E-Cup series. That way you can keep both people for and against it happy.
Right off of the bat I can already tell that the Mach E GT and the Blazer SS EV will be the cars that Ford and Chevy race in this series.
One con you failed to mention was the cost. EVs cost significantly more than ICEs. Which means teams would have to hire more specialists which means paying employees more. Then the RTA will demand more money from NASCAR. It's just a rolling open can of worms with no brakes
A couple of takeaways I have from this unveiling beyond the obvious EV drivetrain.
Cars as a product are dying. In the same way that Nascar had to start considering sedans (Taurus, Impala, Charger, Camry) starting in the late 90s, it's gonna have to consider crossovers as a potential bodystyle and the new challenges that will present. The big wing may be on the only way to generate rear downforce on a CUV body.
The other thing that could be implemented almost immediately is the LED accent lighting. All three of the current models utilize LED daytime running lights, and these could be incorporated and would provide another little tidbit to help further the connection to the production cars these represent.
No, no, no, NO! Keep this as just a concept, but it’s a HORRIBLE idea. The roar of 40 V8 engines going full throttle is part of the experience
I'll stop watching any and all racing that uses EV's. Period.
I think im the only one thats pretty excited if we ever get to see this race
They have to recharge for 14 hours every 40 laps
As a person, not a fan of Dana White. But without his business acumen combat sports wouldn't be at this peak that have been at it. I'm very very intrigued
I can’t believe this is replacing the cup car. Never watching again. NASCAR died with Dale. 🧌
I can't think of a single nascar fan who's said that they should make an EV. A hybrid? Maybe. Electric only? No.
Just make it an option. Let Cadillac and Dodge back in Nascar cup and you can enter a v8, a v6 hybrid, or an EV. the competition and innovation will sort it out. Once eventually EVs dominate, then teams will drop ICE because winning is more important than noise. Imagine strategies of drafting while harvesting energy only to deploy it for a last lap overtake.
They could do hybrid v8 like what the caddie has
Formula E provides pretty decent racing after 10 years. Those races are about 45 minutes tops. We're likely decades away from a 500 mile EV race.
Another NASCAR series fine by me
