It's cool how Dante in the opening scene is actually the same quiet, serious Dante like in DMC2. You can tell by how he fights the Order guards. No jokes. No cheer. Only a job needing to be done. This track which is a variant of Lock and Load is also more suppressed and not as out-going, even sinister to reflect that. Then he realizes Nero is another half-devil and starts cheering up again. He gets wittier as the game goes on and it shows.
Imagine what goes through his head to take him out of his quiet phase when fighting Nero. He suspects this kid might be his twin brother's child, therefore his family, and he brightens up. And then Nero stabs him with his own sword and he's like "Oh wow, this brings me back."
Blackened Angel is so fitting for the start of DMC4. You boot up the game, watch the first cutscenes and then BAM! From the very first moment it's on an all-time high, unlike songs like Taste the Blood, Divine Hate, Subhuman, Lock and Load and Devil Trigger, which all have tension build-upsto prepare you for the engagement. Makes total sense: you're not allowed prep time, Dante swoops in immediately and is a menace from the start; you gotta take him down asap.
