- Only those who grew up watching TV in Canberra in the 1980s (and late 70s and early 90s) will reap the full harvest of nostalgia from this selection of bits and pieces.
[Question: what does it say about Australian society in the 80s that the government felt it was necessary to run ads on telly urging people to be nice to children (not to mention ads encouraging people to stop watching telly and get up and do some exercise!)?]
Thanks remember most of these !
Considering it's mostly ads, it's sad how much I enjoyed this ;)
This was great - thanks! I don't suppose you'd happen to have the old 'Come On Down' ad for Belconnen Markets (late 80's/early 90's)? Or the old Bailey's Corner 'Meet You at Bailey's' ad, same era?
The late Rod Roddy said that on "Price Is Right".
All I've got is big J little A double M O
My parents lived in Page and we were able to pick up RVN 2 Wagga - heaps of snow, you would not be able to these days with digital signal.
There were only two channels in Canberra (Australian Capital Territory), which were ABC3 and CTC7. Those were the days before aggregation whereas regional stations were offered the same programming as their metropolitan counterparts (Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth).
Down south it was CTC 10.
In Primary school we did a tour of the CTC studios in Watson.
That's Rosemary Church doing the weather at the end who went on be one the anchors of CNN International.
This is amazing. More please
The Care For Kids ad was the theme to commemorate the International Year Of The Child (1979) it wasn't just a random "be nice to kids" ad.
That was great. Oddly specific but totally what the title said.
at 3:33 the TAB ad, Elle MacPherson's first professional modelling job.
Where's the Shop-Rite Supermarkets jingle? And the: "Bailey's Corner, meet you at Baiii-leeeeys" jingle? And the Civic Permanent Rap jingle? And the tremendously moving "Song For Canberra"?
Wow...awesome video. Thanks for posting.
The Jacko’s Pizza one sounded so American.
I notice at events ie Black Opal or Canberra cup that there is a van called Jackos which sells pizza slices
Wonder that is a carry over from the Jacko Pizza stores.
Ahh yes, I remember the old Capital Punishment TV:)
Those news clips and no Peter Leonard, Phil Lynch, or Mike Larkin? At least you got Robbo and Chappo in there
Not forgetting the late Tony Campbell who also called the races at Thoroubreed track as now is called
Greg Robson, “Robbo” was a friend of ours back in the day
thank you post more!!!!
9 wide world of sports is a bit deceptive. We did get some channel 9 branded shows, but the only channels were 7 and ABC
oh back when tv stations used to shut down overnight..
I need to see the weird Lounge Suite Warehouse ad from the 80/90s where the guy sung off tune and wore a fake moustache and glasses for some reason.
Duffy rules
was a great suburb right next to lots of pine trees great place as a kid .bonfires across from the servo fireworks great time totally lost these days !
Canberra before aggregation of Australian regional television.

Dear Canberra milk, why did you stop making raider's lime flavour. T.T
alphamone Have they stopped making it now?? I tried it back in 2014 during my only trip to Canberra. Went there for a footy game
2014 is when it came back for a short time, but not as good as the original.
alphamone: unless you don`t live in or near Canberra anymore...haven't you seen the Raiders Lime flavoured milk back in supermarkets and convenience stores throughout the A.C.T. and Queanbeyan? Capitol Chilled Foods brought back the Raiders Lime milk in 2013. Personally I don't know why they brought back the Raiders Lime milk...it tastes terrible...horrid!
Real men drink lime milk.
