Every time I watch this, I hear something different that blows me away. They were and always will be too good for the lackluster and 'average wins every time' music industry. Their music will last forever because it is just THAT good. Quality and integrity can NEVER be beaten.
perfectly said. Everytime I re-listen to this (probably my 250th time) there is something more that juicify my ears. They were always incredibly too good in terms of male black singers in the industry. Many wanted them snubbed away because They are the standard of rich heart singing. Now turn the radio on and see the crap that wins now.....
I remember watching this when it originally aired. HTown and these guys were my absolute favorite artists. THEN ALONG CAME CARL THOMAS. Thank you for existing fellas.
Wow,...I was a huge fan of Jodeci, Devante Swing, Aaliyah, Timbaland, and Missy Elliot, and Ginuwine, but how in the world did I "sleep" on Playa'? I can't believe how talented these gentlemen were. They remind me of what a gospel group like Commissioned would sound like, if Commissioned sang straight R&B. - And for me to just now, finally discover their music, you can imagine my shock at hearing about the loss of member Static Major. May he R.I.H. They all truly are talented and blessed brotha's.
@@dmetriusmarch I hear you, but that's only KINDA true. Playa was only on Jodeci's 3rd album, but they were in Jodeci's artist bootcamp right after the 1st album. So they were trained WELL by DeVante, which is why their sound is distinct. DeVante made SURE everyone had a style/sound that differed from each other (Tim/Magoo, Missy/Sista, Tweet/Sugah, Ginuwine, etc), Playa came from THAT school of musicality & they were slept-on...MAJORLY!!
@@thedvexperience7962 i really only meant that my idea of jodeci was street rnb gansta music and it was more church. Also devante himself said that with static specifically he was already a genius just needed to work out the little details
Thank you!! Playa and dru hill are my favorite groups. Shout out to Smokey for joining dru. It’s such a disappointment that playa only gave us one album. I got chills from this performance
I was a few months old when they did this. i swear i wish I was born sooner to really enjoy this. wish bet had all this music stuff now. viacom had to ruin it.
These brothers were bad! I seen this performance when it aired originally! I went very promptly to the store and purchased the cd! Black and Smokey's are Dru Hill last I heard. RIP Static Majors! Gone too soon! I wish we could have gotten more from them.
Bridget you were getting your record on in the mid 2000's on BET J I see lol. I recorded a few video soul episodes from those years. But they eventually stopped showing old episodes of both shows.
I hate the fact that playa never got to release their 2nd album in like 03 or 04 especially static never getting his chance to release the suppertime album while he was working on it

What I noticed is that artist knew how to do interviews, they had productive conversations. All of this ebonics today is trash. The host was respectful and did their research. They kept it business not this messy shit they do today. Classic, RIP to static ! Music is not sensual anymore!
perfectly witten. Artists during this era were professionals in interviews and very productive and insightful with their words and conveyance. Fast forwards 2 decades and now look at artist now. Social media and basically how people are developed now are completely a mess. Class, heart and professionalism is extinct. R&B is completely extinct. There was a sensual nature to music that reach deep into people's heart. Now....nope
@@Macabre124 Thankyou! I agree with you ! I've been looking at multiple interviews back in the planet groove days and they were just mature and intimate. I would love to go back to that era.
Don't get me wrong, I was a fan, but why did they choose such a low key song to feature here? Cheers 2 U, I Gotta Know, Ms. Parker, One Man Woman, and Top of the World, were songs I would have picked before this one.
@@thetruthandnothingbutthetr6484 I do listen to a wide range of music but I just didn’t like many of the male artists during that time. Weird but I rather listen to Stevie Wonder, Cameo, Roger Troutman, etc. I’m now making my way back to see what I missed: Jagged Edge, etc.
@@Markadown this says a lot about you - the people you named and Playa were never out at the same time nor relevant at the same time…I can tell you’re old as hell
@@thetruthandnothingbutthetr6484 no shit they weren’t out at the same time. And what does my age have to do with anything? Not me being labeled “old as hell”. That is news to me 😂
They deserved so much more. That album is a classic.
They shouldve had another major label release. Its criminal that this was their only major release.
Well said.
I agree and I miss Static.
Straight classic!
One of the best R&B projects from top to bottom
They were GROSSLY underrated!!
RIP Static. Much love to Smoke and Digital Black
