USR1 Retro's The Playthrough: Chase HQ (Amiga)

The Playthrough returns with a game that was awesome in the arcades, awesome on the Spectrum... but not so much on the Amiga 500, which is a shame. Still, here is a complete playthrough, with plenty of roadside scenery crashes and inept game playing!

LOL... I have a bit of an obsession with studying the truly awful Amiga games. ChaseHQ in particular is quite interesting as it will only work on a plain 68000 at stock speeds. I made a custom build of WinUAE with a unified cache for the 68000, and found out rather quickly that this game will crash if it runs faster than ~20 MHz, despite it not employing the blitter at all. Even Outrun can handle overclocking and run at a decent framerate without a problem. 8)

That's quite interesting. It would have benefitted from a little speed boost for certain, and it might have made it a bit more enjoyable. But it was just so damn slow. Coupled with how awful it looks, and it just leaves us with what could have been. Cheers for stopping by. I hope you enjoyed it.

This looked like an Atari ST port that actually ran worse than the ST version lol

It is pretty shameful that it never took full advantage of the Amiga's enhanced architecture. I mean, the colours are all washed out, the sprites are too small, and there's even no sense of speed when traveling at 300kph! It doesn't feel like an Amiga game. Even Moonshine Racers, which gets a bad rep but I quite like it, was much better than this. Cheers for watching, Jason.

Not to impressed with this version really, it should've been much better. Those horrible green lines man and the speeds not the best.
