Prof your comments are well taken. How do we hold the Northern governors accountable for the problems in the North? You make a fantastic point, the north is blessed with land, water, and sun to feed the African continent. It wasn’t so many years ago. I was born in Kano, many years ago. I used to see pyramid of groundnuts, rice, beans, etc from the north, what went wrong Prof?. During President Buhari government, I recall that former Minister of Works stated that the roads allocated to the Northeast infrastructure fund is being put aside until the banditry and the insurgents is minimal. I agree with you that all Nigerians should join hands together to help our brothers and sisters in the North. I agreed with you 100% that the North is richer than the South. Our problems has been bad leadership in the country. President Obasanjo, told Nigeria in 1976 and 1999 that Nigeria should go back to farming but most Governors ignored him, today we are all suffering. Thank You.

It is good to see the Professor making sense as opposed to the position he has taken about the present government earlier on. He is saying the absolute truth about they nineteen governors as opposed to fifteen in the south including the FCT Minister which can make a difference in terms of developmental programs. The professor is also right about the solid mineral and solar resources, Infact, the north stood a chance to compete favorably with countries in the Middle East with almost a common religion that unite all the citizens in the region. Oil is the only resources that the south can boast on and it not going to be there for ever. The professor also made a point when he said in the past it was only Northern Nigeria was known and then development was spread across the region. Now you can identify which part of the north is is who and what in terms of the banditry, kidnapping, Boko haram etc. which bad for the region. The governors appear to be governing with this assumption in mind and hence they run to the central government every now and then. The northern governors run to Abuja to consult with the president than the southern governors this is obvious. The poor performances of the northern governors is well addressed by the professor without any sentiments. How long does the region expect to remain poor and be backward almost in every social economic dimensions and yet most leaders of the country have come from that part of the country from pre-independence till now. Who is really to be blamed? The professor said it all without fear. Some of the states in the north may need to consolidate for better management of resources and governing of the citizen. The idea of creating more states in the north seemed to not have been working despite the resources. The insecurity and poverty in the north will stop immediately if the leaders are realistic to themselves. If all the governors were to embark on some interstate development programs like we see in states like Lagos and Ogun States, the entire north would solved all the problems collectively. The Federal Government is not not doing for the south what it is not doing for the north. Name one State in the south where the Federal government spend more on security and poverty than in the north and yet more is still expected from the Federal Government. The north expect more from the Federal Government than the governors as the professor has rightly pointed out. Let's be realistic.

Yes, I agree. The north is more prosperous than the south.
They will do it when the Northern are more united and agree to develop the North with their farming and mineral resources. The land is also suitable for constructing infrastructure (houses, bridges, roads, railways, etc).

With due respect to the professor, he many times shows bigotry in his analysis. He talked about not knowing the region-centric division of the country while he was growing up, but the next minute, he began his bigot-ridden analysis. "North richer than the South" is that promoting unity. Talk truth to power without causing division, please. The popular opinion is that the past administration of former president Buhari underperformed, hold him responsible, please.

Try to get the context of his submission. He doesn't mean any form of bigotry. It is true the North is richer than the south but the terrorist has made the land unsafe for any meaningful growth and development to happened over there.

The discussion here is no to claim which region is richer! How can any sane person claim the north is richer than the south, when all the resources (Petroleum resources) used in powering the economy since independence comes from the southern part of Nigeria. It is just unfortunate that the so called learned people are never truthful in their analysis.

@@tescobar2001 The north is not and has never been richer than the southern part of Nigeria! in what way? So the sun in the south can't power solar energy or the abundant rainfail e.t.c.

Victor,do you know how much Gold and other mineral resources the north have that get channeled to personal pockets rather than communal good?
Do you know how much of the arable lands are uncultivated?
we have herders in the North,do you know how much hides and skin sell internationally? If the livestock farming is adequately harnessed cow milk would have been very cheap in Nigeria We have no business having international brands in our market.
The North would have been like the middle eastern part of the world and like someone pointed out they have same religion while is their own practice of the religion different?

We need to recognize this same issue plaguing the military in terms of being overstretched and over burdened is largely the fault of the military. During military regimes, they basically castrated the police and and any other security outfit as they posed a threat. Even within the military, we all know the airforce and Navy play second fiddle to the army. The military in an attempt to weaken opposition, also ensured they are the only ones who can deal with true security threats (not against them but against the country).
Strong institutions, if we continue to ignore that and play big manism, treating individuals as bigger than others we will continue to face the same. Focus on building and sustaining strong institutions. In 10yrs time we will be complaining about the wives and kids of judges making their way into appeal and high courts because we’ve push the institution aside to favor current big men.

The north could really really be richer than the south. If only you would mobilize your people to work with a man with compassion and vision, Obi keeps stating the statistics and what he intend to do with the vast north, but your people voted for a man that said he doesn't believe in statistics

They complain about electricity but their own people are busy vandalizing electrical installations. You want development....solve your communal issues, so peace can come to the North. Which contractor or contractors want to work in a region where they could easily be kidnapped or killed?

This is why I have problems with media houses a governor make claim what he thinks not visible in his region all u need to do is get some from d presidency or those in d piloting d affair of this CNG stuff and capital project to speak on it if truly d region was excluded or not rather than go get some whose the subject of this program is beyond his knowledge.
Secondly north have a very greedy and currupted politicians, religion leaders and individuals and they don't care d development of that region and very incompetent

This guy is an unrepentant bigot. His analysis makes me sick. He always talks about North North North...and how the so-called North is better than the Southern Nigeria. I'm tired of these guys, and they're the ones who have seized power in this country for the longest time.
