The real god of Mridangam. what a perfection n divine nadham in his playing. Dada Of All time. I don't how this video has got 33 dislikes. & what made them so in this wonderful playing.
GOT TO BE ONE OF UKS BEST!!! PERFECTION PERSONIFIED in every department...When you listen to stalwarts like UKS, KRM, TKM etc you feel they are the best...each is in a planet of their own at the end of the day...All GENIUSES...
I didn't even Imagine that Mridangam Could be So Soothing and Attractive. This is Not nere Force and Demonstration of what he has Learnt.. This is a Production by itself. It's a Mathematical Genius wi5h Perfect Measure of Time - Laya and Kaala Gati. Excellent. Superhuman 💥 DEVINE 🙏
After hearing the mridangam solo of the greatest of great, Umayalapuram Shivaraman sir, it just feels like as if lord Nandikeswara itself has come to this world to teach everyone the real Naadam of the mridangam. 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
I wonder if anyone really understands the immensity of this man's talent. To those unversed in South Indian Classical Music, this might look and sound like "an Asian gentleman playing a primitive leather-hide drum". In basic terms (although the intricacies of what he is playing are beyond a simple description), he is fitting complex repetitive diverse-measure patterns into a fixed measure. This is like precisely fitting repetitive inch-measures into a meter-measure. Now go figure that out!
Hi there. I'm transcribing this amazing piece but i can't understand (yet) what's the phrase he plays in 1:37 and that plays repeatedly during 1:44-1:47. Do you have any ideas on this? I could the first four/five strokes as part of a septuplet, but the second part i really don't get it. It's like 10 sounds long, right? Thanks!
Late 80s and 90s he dominated the sabhas particularly Music Academy and Narada gana sabha reverberated with maharajapuram thrissur ramachandran and Mandolin Srinivas. G8 Time.

He played 'tisram"ie 3letters per beat.It goes like this-3+5+(5)+5 three times. The pause is within bracket. Then he gives pause 5 followed by 5 letters,pause5 followed by 5leters, pause 5 followed by 5lettersand one letter pause,5letter and one letter pause and 5letter.The structure is as follows:3+5+(5)+5 threetimes plus. (5)+5+(5)+5+(5)+5+(1)+5+(1)+5.Total 96letters.. Ofcourse he played fast phrases in the last 6beats(after one letter).
Total devotion to the Art has made him a genius.

If such sound exists in this universe, there is still something to live for, to fight for.

Maharajapuram Santhanam.
People who disliked this genius must be die-hard fans of Dinkchak Pooja!!
🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Wow
I love the winding sound at the end of a beat. can't explain it.
If you are referring to that snare like sound, that comes from the strips of reed, that are inserted on the treble side of the drum.
🌹🙏🙏🙏
great....
I didn't even blinked for a second...
No percussionist has been awarded with Padmabibhusan, the second highest civilian award before. This guy must have strong lobby.
The lobby being his work
He's the god of mridangam that's why
