Creality Falcon2 laser engraver: first look

- Today I'm looking at Creality's Falcon 2 22 watt laser engraver/cutter.
I've been using a Creality 3D printer for several years, so when I was offered a Creality laser engraver, I jumped at the chance.
First impressions, it's a solid machine, and after a bit of practice, it is proving to be a fairly capable machine.

This isn't the only way to do it.
It's probably not the best way to do it.
But it's how I did it.
I never expected to see daylight in your videos ;-)
I converted my 3018-Pro CNC Router to a laser engraver. ( Sainsmart 5 watter) Grabbed a cover for it from Creality with a fan exhaust. Working fine so far.
I have the Creality Falcon 10W and it works great. These are great little machines. Thanks for sharing Creality's updated model!

"Oh. Well, that's not ideal"
That's both hilarious and relatable. Thanks for including that in the video, PoS.
cut the hole with the laser!
I did for the replacement.
Love to see how you get along with making a PCB. Really like the idea of using a marker/sharpie as the resist and the laser removing the unwanted mask, followed up by HCL/H2O2 etch.
Nice piece of kit, and a lovely first project. Good one! 👍😀
I still have to finish assembling my (different brand) laser engraver.... thanks for the inspiration! The Falcon 2 seems like a decent engraver/cutter!
Use caution attempting engraving highly reflective materials or it could in theory reflect back into the diode and seriously damage it.
Definitely interested to see how it handles copper clad circuit board material. Copper absorbs at 455 nm pretty well iirc so as long as you don’t pick heavy weight board it should work. Slower than etching but probably less mess.
just got the Monport 60w co2 to cut out some acrylic, etc for control panels and everything else.
I've had a few laser engravers and I think this one is worth every bit of what it costs. This machine is twice the price of a K40 (locally) but it's more than twice as capable in my opinion. The open frame scares me a bit but overall, it looks like a fantastic machine.
Very enjoyable video. It was good to someone making the same mistakes that i did on my engraver. Keep up the great channel 😀😀😀
Nice etcher and box. 👍
That's awesome man.
Good video, and an interesting device.
Nice thing to get given, and I expect will get used once in a while 🙂
Hello. I think how much laser engraving has changed in the machines in about 3 years. I bought a 30 watt diode laser paid 400 then and now for same price what you can get. I also bought a slightly used 50 watt co2 at about 1000. New was over 2200. Never did use them . Going to lurn now tho. Just funny how much can change in short amount of time
Would try and add an enclosure with air extraction as soon as possible, what comes off the material as it is engraved is not very good for your health. My CO2 laser can kick up quite a stink even with extraction via the pipe hanging out the window.
Just modified my K40 with my own design of driver board and now run lightburn which i think is a great bit of software.
Try cutting a ping pong ball, my diode laser would not touch it.
I intend to enclose (and vent) it so i can have it in the house. The garage gets too cold in the winter.
it's so easy to fill the house with smoke 😞Watch what you cut, there are a lot of things that are not worth the risk. To be safe i buy my materials from a laser supply company so it's all checked to be as safe as possible.
Happy lasering
I enjoyed this video. I have been working on saving for one, but haven't pulled the trigger yet.
do it!
How do you solving smoke/fumes extraction? Just natural flow? I'm seriously thinking about laser cutter option(s) within next 2 years, so video just in time to get more info. I'm happy ender 3v2 3dprinter user, so another device from same company will be good.
For now i only use it in the garage with all the windows and doors open.
I plan to build a vented enclosure so i can move it into the house.

;-)
When did you give up on the HO train? 😁
It's still there. I hope to get back to it when I have more time
It would be really cool if one of the companies that made large sized resin printers would send me one and a wash a cure the same size for free or heck one of those laser machines I have a small one but I haven’t tried it out yet
All yo need is a big enough audience and there are all manner of offers. Most are not this impressive, though.
I wonder if you could cut the acrylic if the protective film is still on there ? Did you try if you can 'print' a pcb with the fullcopper fr-4 circuitboards you got in a recent mailbag?
I've got some acrylic on order to try that.
and I have been experimenting with the FR4. It's not powerful enough to burn through the copper, but it can burn away a layer of resist/masking.
I think it's just a matter of getting all my settings right both in the CAD an on the laser. Lots to try and figure out in the few hours I have after work.
@@pileofstuff
hello, have you tried putting black paint on the copper? maybe afterwards he will be able to engrave it.😉
@pileofstuff I've got the stuff ordered to make boards too. I even shelled out way too much for a bottle of liquid tin. I'm happy for you. I'm building mine soon. I missed the part but what's the true optical output?
@@pileofstuffhaha never mind. That's powerful af. Awesome. There are sprays you can get to make the metal custom colors.
@@electroniquepassion That's my plan. It sorta works with the lighter colour paint I happened to have lying around, but I am going to get some black when I have a change to get to the hardware store.
Nice to get this stuff for zero. I just paid excess $600 for 12W. Depends who you are I gather..
It didn't come without "strings attached"
Nobody gonna see the back.
