This video is for information purposes only and you should talk to you doctor about anxiety and its treatment or an herbalist before taking herbs.
Links to studies referred to in this video.
    1. Kava has been shown to possess mild anti depressant properties, making it suitable for the treatment of anxiety associated with depression - without the negative side effects of prescribed anti depressants
    Sarris et al 2009
    www.ncbi.nlm.n...
    2. Its also a hypnotic and so a useful treatment for insomnia
Kava helps to improve the quality of sleep significantly
it reduces active wakefulness and significantly prolongs sleep, compared with placebo
Unlike prescription drugs for anxiety, kava does not appear to interfere with mental alertness, up set the stomach, or foster a dependency on the herb.
    Yurcheshen et al 2015
    www.ncbi.nlm.n...
    Wheatley 2001
    www.ncbi.nlm.n...
    3. A major scientific review of kava concluded that kava extract has significant anti anxiety activity and is superior to placebo for treating anxiety
    (Pittler & Ernst 2000).
    www.ncbi.nlm.n...
According to the authors of the review, none of the trials reported any hepatotoxic events and seven trials measured liver enzyme levels as safety parameters and reported no clinically significant changes.
The herb appears to be as effective treating anxiety as popular prescription tranquillisers such as diazepam.
    4. Kava may have a role in reducing anxiety and improving subjective wellbeing during benzodiazepine withdrawal, according to a 2001 randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled study
    Malsch & Kieser 2001
    www.ncbi.nlm.n...
    5. Kava has been found to have analgesic and local anaesthetic effects
The constituent kavain acts as a pain killer
The effect is not mediated by an opiate pathway
    Korman et al 2012
    www.ncbi.nlm.n...
    6. Kava also acts as an antispasmodic
Because its an effective muscle relaxant, it is an appropriate treatment for conditions associated with muscle spasm, neck tension and headaches,
Mills & Bone 2000 Herbs and Natural Supplements Vol 2
    7. In a review of the commonly used botanicals for treatment of mood and anxiety disorders in perimenopausal and postmenopausal women kava was found to hold promise for decreasing anxiety in peri- and postmenopausal women
    Geller and Studie 2007
    www.ncbi.nlm.n...
    8. Kava kava has been reported to possess anticancer and anti-inflammatory activities. We are well aware that the state of the immune system and the inflammatory process that can develop both play vital roles in the progression of cancer.
A study in the South Pacific where cancer rates are low, despite high rates of tobacco consumption - found that the more kava consumed by a population the lower the cancer incidence for a population - the data suggests there is a close inverse relationship between cancer incidence and kava consumption
    Steiner 2000
    www.ncbi.nlm.n...
Other studies have shown kava to have anti cancer properties
    Nadiah Abu et al 2013
    cancerci.biome...
Kava has also been found to protect against prostate cancer
    Li X et al 2015
    www.ncbi.nlm.n...
    and breast cancer
    Abu N et al 2015
    www.ncbi.nlm.n...
    9. Kava also acts an anti inflammatory and so helps to protect and fight against disease
The anti-inflammation activity of flavokawain was examined by Kwon et al. in 2013 .
    10. Kava boosts the immune system and so protects against illness and disease

youd like kratom too. kratom and kava will keep you off the harder stuff without it really damaging your health to any significant degree. i read somehwere the ld50 for kratom is about 1300 grams more or less in a sitting to kill someone. so its fairly non-toxic in reasonable doses. that, and it doesnt destroy your testosterone levels like opiates do. kava is notoriously thought to damage the liver even though the toxins i think come from the bark rather than the root alone. i cant be sure about the safety of kava, cause i dont know if what i said about kavas true, but im suspecting it is based off the 30 minutes of researching it.

I'm also in Ireland and have started getting Kava. There's a lot of different types and forms of Kava out there. If its for daily use for anxiety issues I'd recommend buying the medium grind in large bags, as this is most cost effective. For anxiety some say that it can grant instant relief while others say it works better taking it often for a period of time. Medium grind from Kalm with Kava or Gourmet Hawaiian Kava get good reviews.

I am also interested if there is anything i can combine with valium (like passion flower or other natural ways) to ease the withdrawal symptoms? I take valium for sleeping problems and some anxiety but during the day i am just fine. I also have a big problem with a 15 years chronic sinusitis which is really really painful when the pain comes and I tried one day to reduce 1mg from valium and the next day i was extremely painful in the same areas of my chronic sinus. • @jellyfish74
      @jellyfish74 6 років тому

Hi. I think anything beneficial can be psychologically addictive because you begin to think you need it in order to feel normal/good. The thing to remember is kava isn’t a cure for anxiety and depression (possibly it is for addiction) but a tool in relieving it temporarily and possibly something to use in conjunction with whatever form of therapy or self-help you may be involved in, as it does tend to lower your defense mechanisms in letting go of negative associations and beliefs. As with any substance, use it in moderation and with respect and it should treat you well.

The other ingredients may be contributing to its calming effects. Compared to traditionally prepared kava and better kava extracts, it is weak. As kava has some reverse tolerance properties, it's worthwhile to take in between occasional strong kava doses.

Kava actually made my anxiety worse! It only lasted for 30 minutes then when it wore off my anxiety would be even stronger than it was before. I don't recommend it at all for an anxiety treatment. Steer clear!

What strains are you guys trying? The heady strains can easily make anxiety worse but the balanced/heavy ones shouldn’t.

Just tried a Vantanau strain and it was perfect. I've been using it for a month now, I love it and replaced all my meds with it.

Honestly just the size a pea. I had a 70% kavalactone content in my last extract, It worked wonders. I know that I originally feared kava at first, the fear came from use of other drugs and not knowing how I will feel. It's almost super similar to valium or a short ativan. In low doses it hasn't made me feel bad or anxious at all. It completely took away my anxiety after I felt the first little wave of feeling that passed through my legs, I was in instant relief. The feeling was so recognizable to benzos, and being an ex addict, that's all I ever really wanted. There is NOTHING to fear, too big of a dose or too small of a dose, (medical value 30-250 mg kavalactone, NOT recreational like 2500 mg kavalactone in a session;) no harm will be done to your body or your mind, start small until you get a feeling for the drug, maybe just enough to think you feel different but not really sure of it it, then do a tiny bit more 15-20 minutes later so you get the full peak and understand how it affects you. You will be okay, I honestly pounded 1/4th of my last extract in 1 day, and no adverse effects, been on almost every form of kava almost 2 months. Got my liver functions checked out and my doctor said everything was above normal. There's no real bad amount to take, you WILL know when you have had too much, you will become tired and sluggish the following day, almost like a weak hangover without the headache, just lethargic and a little slow mentally. Be safe, don't combine kava with anything that's a CNS depressant or you will end up like lil peep. BE SAFE, for me please.

When I first got into Kava, I was nervous it'd make my anxiety worse. I kind of jinxed myself with the whole "am I feeling anything yet?"
You just have to let it work. With that being said: when I first started using Kava I got post-usage anxiety. But this faded entirely after using a few times.

Probably super obvious but still important PSA: Just because something is natural, doesn’t make it safe. Check out the side effects: headaches, dizziness, fatigue, depression, diarrhea, skin problems, possible cirrhosis, hepatitis, and liver failure. But at least you won’t have anxiety. You’re presenting this as a cure-all miracle drug, when the truth is it might leave people with more problems than ever.

Pacific Islanders have been drinking Kava for centuries. Traditionally it was only confined to very special occasions which sort of set the parameters for moderation. Those effects you listed only connotate towards the abuse of Kava which is a very real concept. Kava can help if taken in moderation (once a week or so) but just like anything else that affects the mind when taken; continuously large day to day doses will always result in the exact same symptoms you listed if not worse.

CHRIST accepts you right where you are no matter what sins you've done. He especially picks us that don't seem special in this life so that no man should glory lest it be in His eternal charity that saves us from our own corruptness. Saved by faith in GOD's blood for ever and ever. This life is a vapor. CHRIST is coming very soon. Seek evidence of Noah's flood. This world was judged once and will be a second time. Read Romans,Corinthians,Psalms,Prov.,Matthew, etc. Proverbs 18:2 A fool takes no pleasure in understanding, but only in expressing his own heart.
