I have searched the internet for a long while looking for Bas Rutten videos and never had much luck. And today I find your channel and will be able to watch them all with the bonus of you commentating. It's like pure MMA gold.
I love life, I’ve become obsessed with everything mma for years now but it’s only been a couple years now on my own journey seeing things like this from a decade ago make me so appreciative of this path I want to walk. It’s so cool seeing how much this community can change people and help others become the best version of thyself. Much love if u ever see this if not you’ll see me on ur screen one day soon ❤
Frank always seemed like a stand up guy, nice to see you guys bantered while fighting. Always liked him when he commentated bellator. You're the best Bas!
I am not to keened on Ken and frank's overall demeanor in person but I loved their abilities. I love the way Bas stays humble and it outstanding pointing out everything in the matches from the strong and weak points about him as well as his opponents with outstanding sportsmanship. I recently came out of retirement to compete only on a state level unless a national or International comes to Florida but mainly to teach and show my son certain competition techniques live in real time while training him outside the Tournaments. I was selected for the USA National judo team and retired coming home afterwards. But being that I am coming out of retirement, I would love to learn from Bas as a coach with my overall love and respect he has for the arts itself. Bas is amazing in all regards and I am positive that he has taught many champions over the years. His humbleness and sportsmanship is so honorable to see. He is amazing!
The ground game is amazing. 2 fights back Bas was totally lost on the ground, and now it's reversal after reversal. What an intelligent man to have learned and applied so much so fast!
What an evenly matched clash of giants. This was Frank's first MMA fight and he didn't know how to strike yet, but just as Bas later became feared on the ground, so was Frank later respected on the feet.
+TheJohn8765 Spot on. Only thing I disliked about Pancrase was the rope escape, major disadvantage to grapplers. Bas's MMA record would've suffered without that rule.
+Diego Augusto You have to understand that Pancrase was sold to the Japanese people as "Real Pro-Wrestling." This is why a bunch of rules translated over from pro wrestling, such as the rope break and the no fists rule.
The friendship and good sportsmanship is always moving. Two guys can fight with their everything on the line and still get up and respect each other at the end of the day. I really appreciate that. Nobody wants to seriously hurt anyone, they are equals
Classic BEAUTIFUL technical wrestling. I haven't seen such a display since I saw Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat and Tito Santana wrestle a purely technical match in Houston back in the 80's.
I bet that was epic..two of the greats from that era and all-time. I was in North Carolina but could catch Houston wrestling every once in a while. That was good stuff.
Mr Rutten is very clever and smart. It's a pleasure to see him all along his fights, having a more and more competent and complete ground game, And become more dangerous. In this one,he even seems to prefer the ground than the stand up game. It's amazing, knowing that Frank his a very talented wrestler. Big Bas,for Rutten! With you commenting,it's like a tutorial, for us,your beginners fans and apreciators.
Fantastic to watch these and see how the game has developed since (and Bas) - the grappling especially. Both Frank and Bas are legends IMO, true vanguard of modern MMA. Respect, and thanks to Bas for posting these up and his entertaining and honest commentry.
Bas, I know these videos are old and I always respected you when I competed after being selected for the USA National judo team . I always followed your matches carefully as there is so much to learn. Now that I see you actually explaining the matches which I never seen, I respect you even more. I love how you are so respectful and humble with your opponents strong and weak points but you go on and stress your old strong and weak points. I always liked both Ken and frank's ability but I was not in favor of their overall demeanors. You really impressed me being able to roll with Frank so well as I recall Frank's match against the gold Medalist Olympian in which he dominated in seconds. Then you see your match here and you handled him so well in the match respectfully. With competing against some of the best wrestlers in the country and yes I beat many in less than a minute myself including the Florida State gold medalist in which I won in 5 seconds similar to Frank's old match, I know for a fact that some national rated wrestlers are outstanding in their sport so that is why I felt frank did amazing. I am so impressed with seeing you and Frank roll here. I went into retirement after many years but this year, I started getting back into it to train my son. He is working his way up nationally now after taking gold in state and I am proud of him. I am seeking to come out of retirement only up to a state level however unless of course there is ever Nationals here but I don't look to travel far or International ever again. But I would travel to become a student of yours if I can and if you allow me to. I only want the best coaches and if nothing more, a few training camps. Do you hold these by any chance or do you have a dojo? I have a RV if you do in the states or Canada that I can live in during training camps learning from you. God bless and I wish you and the family a happy 2020 new year.
He has a dvd set called Bas's big dvds of combat. He mentions it occasionally in these fight commentaries. He shows all his escapes on these if you are interested.
@@atillacnar5785 he is correct, in fact frank is actually mexican and was born frank juarez, and ken was born ken kilpatrick and were adopted by the same family
@@lawrence5584 shamrock never touched the ropes but if your in a hold and either person touches the ropes the ref has to break it. Bas touched both times with his head
wassermeister No that looks like one of Bas’s training partners. Don’t know his name or his record but he’s the pad holder in a couple of his training videos you can find on UA-cam.
guys knowing your bjj is extremely important and one of the best styles in mma im on 5'7 145 pounds andi was in a bar fight and I did a single leg take down on a drunk guy that was 6 foot probably 240 pounds I took him down and had him in a heel hook and he actually started shouting stop stop from the pain bottom line is know your grappling
1:54 Bas I got you beat. I was in a fight with Tenkaichi in 2010 Okinawa #1 fight organization. 1st round I beat this guy for a minutes just jabs. He goes for the take down and I give him my back and reverse out. He holds onto my leg and I just pummel him for another 2 minutes. When I here the time keeper say I-pun/i-fun (Japanese for 1 min) we get to a point in the grappling where I could have easily just gotten up but I decided to go for an armbar and slip off getting mounted. The guy is striking from the top but I'm literally winning the striking exchange off my back. The ref reaches in and stops the fight while we're both still punching. Fights get fixed in Japan and everyone knows it...they get fixed other places but not so obviously. 4:02 Oh this is some b.s.
Bas ain’t bein salty either. He should have had two points for those breaks. That he can do all this to young Frank before Bas was even good on the ground says so much.
you should have won Bas he never really had on good strike on you it was just a few sub attempts you had some nice kicks & punched him & had a few sub attempts
Nah they do that all the time, especially in the ken shamrock fight. I'm assuming there were small things that bas rutten felt like he should keep to himself, like if he touches the rope while in a grapple even if hes in a dominant position they have to break. He even eludes to it later in the fight when he says "I push myself to the middle of the ring..."

That kick to the head was amazing.
Indeed, that kick actually broke the tip of Franks nose right there. 4:10
Frankie ate it like a stale Dorito!
That’s what I thought right now when I saw it! How did he eat that like it was nothing!

He was more of a ground guy 😊
The ground game is amazing. 2 fights back Bas was totally lost on the ground, and now it's reversal after reversal. What an intelligent man to have learned and applied so much so fast!
To be fair, Ken was heavier/stronger and probably more skilled than Frank
What an evenly matched clash of giants. This was Frank's first MMA fight and he didn't know how to strike yet, but just as Bas later became feared on the ground, so was Frank later respected on the feet.
I love staying up late just to watch these!
Damn so many reversals! Entertaining ground game!
The lack of ground and pound adds some technical zest to it. It's like a MMA standup fight, and a bjj tournament when they get to the ground.
+TheJohn8765 Spot on. Only thing I disliked about Pancrase was the rope escape, major disadvantage to grapplers. Bas's MMA record would've suffered without that rule.

Frank wasn't keeping pressure down with his hips when he was mounted on Bas. This is why it was so easy for Bas to reverse.

Legendary fight. This is the one that proved to Ken that Frank was the real deal.

Bas commentating on his fights is Fuckin awesome. I love this shit
Watching all these fights again in 2022!
Good old times, SeBastian, loving every one of them. Take care and keep 'em coming!
There will never be as dominant, or classy a 2 gentlemen, as Frank & Sir Bas, ze King of zee Pancakes!
It's hard not to love Shamrock isn't it! Great fight :)
Beautiful match
Such a beautiful match.
This has got to be a hidden gem
beautifull fight and awesome sportmanship
Funny how the Shamrocks weren't biological brothers but look exactly the same physically and the hair lol.
6:23 Imagine if they counted that as a submission tap
Gentlemanly combat. Brilliant.
i wish bas would explain things he can do to escape instead of saying i can easily get out of this now haha
squall103 I thought the same thing lol
google: mount escapes bjj

That Shamrock escape at 3:34...!
Increíble batalla de resistencia.
Man as a unbiased Observer it really does look like that referee was paid off
Imagine if one of these dudes was just a bjj blue belt, would have been a much shorter fight.
Love the content Bas
Very cool Bas 👍
Love Bas & Frank 2 legends, but that break call on the choke I seen nothing. 2 young, hungry lions right there.
1:53 - it's setup. somebody wants shamrock to win
I think it was because of the ropes
def set up
Bas won this fight.. Judges blowed
Are they now allowed to palm strike or body punch on the ground? It seems crazy to me in all these fights they never strike on the ground.
i wish i found out about Bas Rutten sooner..i don't really follow mma/fighting stuff that much =(
Watch all of Junior Dos Santos' fights next.
look for fedor emelianenko. He's the greatest fighter to have ever lived!
Fuh Q fedor checks under his bed for Bas Rutten at night haha
Hello bass from Santiago Chile 👋
Ken and Frank have no genetic relation - only adopted brothers.

At 0.59 when Frank reversed the mount....I heard a snapping sound...hope it wasn t the neck.
Why no ground and pound?
I’m curious too
Gentleman's agreement. They're allowed to, but they usually choose not to. Once one fighter starts using ground-and-pound, though, it's on.
Damm bro u fought some brutal people.
FRANK LEGENDARY BEST FİGHT MARTIAL ARTS AND FUNNY BOY . I LOVE YOU FRANK 😍😍😍😍😍😍💝💝💝💝
why did the ref keep breaking you?
Some rule about the ropes.
GypsyLeah but frank never touched the ropes. Moreover if you use a rope escape you are suppose to be deducted a point
Japan is known for fixing fights so who knows
Actually, the ref breaks the fight if it looks like its going no where. So when theres a stalemate the ref will call break.
@@lawrence5584 shamrock never touched the ropes but if your in a hold and either person touches the ropes the ref has to break it. Bas touched both times with his head

is that Semi Schilt in 1:10?
wassermeister No that looks like one of Bas’s training partners. Don’t know his name or his record but he’s the pad holder in a couple of his training videos you can find on UA-cam.
Did Bas have any takedown defense back then?
+Panos Ioannou nope, all he knew about grappling at all was the guillotine
No. He laughs about it in previous vids.
Also -he makes me twist around while watching, trying to get him out of shit.
One of the best fighters from Holland.
what Bas does not say is he is an excellent strategist. Even when he is not punching he is still taking positions to lure the other guy into a trap.

Grappling is not just bjj.
There are other grappling based disciplines that work too.
khabib does fuck all bjj same with israel adesanya lol
Cuántas peleas perdió bas
4:09 !!!
i love it
Why is there so little striking on the ground? Was it forbidden?
Brian Crowder yeah
It was more frowned upon, you were allowed to strike but people would boo
Brian Crowder it was about showing the technique in grappling sort of a gentlemanly kind of thing. I quite like it personally.
Gentleman's agreement among the fighters
10:48 he lost his contact lens ? is Bas rutten shortsighted ?
You rarely pounded on them when you were on the ground on top of them. I think you would of been way more effective if you had.
Isn't fighting with contact lenses dangerous Bas?
No ones gonna mention this guys neck almost snapping @1:00
Purest sport. Zero animosity.
Bas - as I don't know much about Pancrase's ruleset - why did they keep standing you up when you got a good position?
+Lunchb0xbadger Because they were too near the ropes and because the Pancrase referees were openly biased.
match-fixing
Just watched that kick at 4:10.... Looks like he learned that from Steven Seagal ...
I want to see the rematch where you punched him in the face.
Did U fought with contact lenses ?
Nobody:
Frank: MUST. HUG. BAS.
were they forbidden to punch while on the ground back then ?
Only palm strikes
Also, striking while on the floor was deemed dishonarable. Even though it was allowed.
Those cross faces are brutal

The ref must have been a shamrock fan lol
How the hell did he survive that kick to the head????
Especially with those heavy boots he was wearing.
Nearsighted. Inhaler. Allergies. Bas Rutten is the reason nobody picks on nerds anymore, because he will kick the pills.
4:07 your welcome
this grappling looks very different than todays grappling
Because today it's always a lot of ground and pound where as in pancreas there wasn't much ground and pound
TheRocker500 i mean compared to pure BJJ rules
taner raven Oh, I thought you meant like UFC
The reason it's different is because the Shamrock's weren't trained in BJJ, they were Catch Wrestlers.
Americana was there at 57sec
He did that wearing CONTACTS...?
"Knie gebruiken jongen!" :)
Ate a boot to the head like nothing. Thess guys seem tougher than ufc

So refs tried to fix this fight against rutten lol
it seems that way im thinking yes
Nah they do that all the time, especially in the ken shamrock fight. This has got to be one of the most rigged fights I’ve ever seen. Whenever it looks like frank is losing they break it up. Disgusted
BAs Rutten DID WIN THIS FIGHT.
But at 8:13 when Frank is winning they also break it up. I think they just break it up whenever they think it's too close to the ropes.
Bas the boss
The referee was jealous, that's why he always broke them up.
