Don't you mean the 598? According to an Amazon review they're almost identical except for slightly better low ends.

I've got a faulty pair of HD 599 and Sennheiser refuses to fix or replace them when left speaker is farting on bass. Very nice Sennheiser,
    very nice.........

I would wait until it comes out on the American markets. Buying headphones from oversees dealers, even Authorized ones can be problematic if you need to utilize your warranty. I have also heard stories about items getting lost in shipping. If it is out in India and is worth it, the company will release it in America. Often times they test things in smaller markets.

How much of a burn in do these need to sound their best or close to it?

To be honest I'm not a fan of burning in headphones, I think its unnecessary and a bad idea.

Well it's not like headphones are going to sound their prime out of the box. Especially Sennheisers.

I find burning them to be a bad idea, they will all eventually sound different, but to purposely wear down the headphones so they will is a bad idea. Headphones will constantly change in sound quality so burning them will just shorten the life of your headphones. Even if you find an "optimal burn time" they will still sound different in a month

My 11 years old HD595 gained from burning it in, but then didnt change its sound anymore...
i know that, once i had to replace one driver because i destroyed one. I droped the headphone, the driver fell out of its position and i finally bricked it when putting it back into place, because of simple stupidy.
With the new driver installed the difference between left and right was there... not insane, but it was there. After letting the headphone burn in again (on both channels) for 12h, the difference was gone, completely!
By the way, you might say that burning in a headphone is a bad idea, but now people have the choice to thrust either you or Sennheiser, the manufacturers themselfes, witch are telling their consumers to burn in most of their products for about 24hours.

      Mr. Magnificent,
I stand by what I said about burning headphones being a bad idea. Every thing I learned while receiving my BS in Audio production, taught me that the practice is arbitrary and wears down the drivers. Of course the manufacturers want you to do it because shortens the life of their products. From someone who has been sourced as an expert in the audio industry, it is a bad idea. Headphone will all break themselves in, and when you are discussing whether or not to burn consumer grade headphones its pointless because you are not going to notice the subtle differences that you would with a premium pair of headphones anyway. its just a bad idea all around. Consider that anything that can get burned in, can burn out.
