I built these at the Chrysler Newark Assembly Plant in Newark Delaware,,plant closed in 2008..just bought one of these last week,,forgot how much I loved them.
I started at the plant in 1989 when it was just building cars,,(acclaim,Laberon, intrepid,)but then we became a truck plant after a long 1 1/2 yr paid lay-off (thanks union)and the Durango came to us in 1998,,we were the only plant assembly for these SUV’s,,( I still have my Durango watch and jacket they gave away to the workers)of course when a new vehicle comes to a plant they want them built and out,so 10 hr days plus saterdays and 2 shifts,,averages about 500 Durango’s a day and 3000 a week,,I was a pool man so I did numerous jobs around the plant.
If I remember right this was the year they cost cut a few things like the v8 emblem on the side fenders and Hood pads,etc..a very few of these came with a overhead tv lcd for the rear passengers.
Ok now that's pretty cool
Pro tip: watch series on Kaldrostream. Me and my gf have been using it for watching a lot of movies during the lockdown.
@Ronan Dominick yea, I've been using Kaldrostream for since december myself :)
Mine is from the Newark plant (2003 model). I live in Saudi. It's reliable when set in 4WD for dunes (heavy car however).
I used to work at the Twinsburg Stamping Plant as a Tool & Die maker. We sent you most of your sheetmetal parts for your assembly. I was advised to retire , before they closed our plant in 2009.
I just saw this video. I have a 98 with a 318 and a 99 with a 360. Both have part time 4x4. My 99 with 360 gets 12.5 around town and 15 on the hiway. The 318 gets 17.5 mpg at 80mph, The 98 and 99 had bigger sway bars and handle corners much better than the latter models but have fewer frills. Both have been great vehicles.
Hi. I'll be looking at a '02 R/T soon. Anything I should pay attention to? Had a 98 Dakota 5.2 a few years ago. I really liked how it drove super smooth and powerful.
The "little storage cubby" @7:10 is where the passenger airbag override control would be located if this vehicle did not have a back seat, like the Dakotas.
Very well done Andy, I recognize that Beast
The difference on the accessories buttons from 2000 to 2001. My window buttons are different and my air settings and my 4wd is an actual stick shifter. I have a 2000 Durango r/t
That's so cool. I grew up in a 4.7 slt 2000 and it had the other shifter. I've got a 2003 r/t and it's perfect but I miss the old dash and steering wheel, plus the shifter
I have the same as you, they’re actually really nice vehicles lol
The shifter was in the full time 4wd
I just bought a 2000 RT and I’m surprised the small ways it’s different. But I really enjoyed your review it was perfectly detailed and I enjoyed your commentary.
Thanks, glad you liked it! I hope you enjoy that truck, u do miss this one.
my first '03 burnt up alongside the highway, after ladling thousands into it. Now - this r/t is interesting and I may buy one just like it
The r/t is a pretty sweet truck, that's for sure
Thanks for the detailed video. I’m looking at buying one tomorrow.
Ive got an 02 SLT 4.7 Durango you put 2 inch spacers on these trucks with new shocks they handle pretty good its actually amazing and my perfectly running 4.7 with an intake and straight pupe exhaust the fastest 0-60 ive ever done is 7.9 and that was launching in 4hi these trucks are absolute animals if set up right
Thanks I enjoy the review!
Very good video! I learned a lot!
Thanks Dan!
Thanks man great vid. I want one so bad.
Yeah...the 5.9 was available in 98. Currently rolling around in one 🤷🏼♂️
Seems my research failed me then
Thanks for video , I am in Bristol Tenn. just bought a 2001 R/T , Was wondering about using it for towing a small camper or going trout fishing etc... Not going rock climbing :)
First vehicle in love with her
I love that older version Dodge Durango SUV ...they made like that from 1997 to 2003 then c GG angel body shaped..
They went to pinched unibodies, the older ones were truck frames
Just bought the 2002 RT. 175KM. Can't wait to do some mods on it
@8:37 in the overhead information display, that is ET for "elapsed time"
Mine does really good around curves
And I think that 2001 Dodge Durango SUV goes fast .. I didn't know that... I think they started R/T not sure when they started older version til new 2021 have R/T
Wow to think this is the only other Durango r/t ive seen
That’s it I’m gonna get one of these
Awesome. I believe they can be good if taken care of. Sadly the trans just went out on this one. Not sure if it's reliability or driving habits. Or how the previous owners cared for it
That Car Vlog Channel are you gonna replace the transmission or not?
@@OK-ph4dj not my truck. And they just traded it instead of trying to pay for a trans
That Car Vlog Channel I would of rebuild or replace the trans
@@ThatCarVlogChannel the trans in ours went out also. But we replaced it
This was my family's towing vehicle/mom's grocery getter and my brother and I spent a few years being 6 feet tall in those back seats, wasn't the most fun
Your muffler with a leak sounds like a 2018 mustang
O man I bet. I'm glad I've only had to do that a couple times in this
I'll take that as a compliment lol. The 5.9 is a great sounding engine
Great
What's "odd-ball" about the column shifter? Every one I've ever seen or used works exactly the same way. Pull it toward you to pass the detent, then pull down to select. Tell us which vehicles work any differently.
Still love my 2001 Durango SLT Plus 4.7 mangum
I have a 2003 Dodge Durango RT..
Sweet. Love that big v8!
@@ThatCarVlogChannel what is better the 2001 durango r/t or the 2001 dodge durango slt sport utility 4d
@@TheVacuumWizard can't say myself. Although I'm sure the r/t has the bigger engine and awd
@@TheVacuumWizard Depends what you want. The SLT probably has the 4.7L not the 5.9L. The transmission in the 4.7L is far more reliable than the transmission in the 5.9L. Even though the 5.9L is a massive motor it hardly makes any more power than the 4.7L. I owned (2) 4.7 and a 5.9L Durango. Stock V stock there is hardly any difference in acceleration. the 4.7L is way smoother and more efficient. You can get "AWD" with either motor. The SLT will also have a softer suspension from my understanding. I have yet to own a modern vehicle that rode as plush as any of my three Durangos.
clarda1 oh boy another 4.7 lover the 5.9 will destroy the 4.7
Put the right size tires on it and maybe it will handle better!
Pretty sure they were correct, or close. O well, too late now
Do you think this is a reliable truck if taken car of
Yes they are.
They definitely are
Hell yeah I beat tf out of mine and true test my wife drove it every day once a month I would drive 8 hrs to get my son then right back 16 hrs of driving hardly a break then keep him 2 weeks drive him back 90 the whole way through the mountains keep oil changed it will last I'm going get another just got a 97 Dakota love it
Absolutely yes, reliable, mine left me on the road once after 16 years of non-stop service, never went to mech shop, just that time, fixed with $150
Ehhhh yk that RT is a POS I owned one and that thing gave me so many problems now it’s on blocks in my backyard in pieces
I'm a mechanic and I totally disagree. When well maintained, these are rock solid. I've seen many with over 200k on the original engine and still running great.
I have this vehical. Show hiding spots
I don't understand why big and tall guys like you complain that the third row in a any vehicle is "tight."
Do you honestly believe that passengers of your size were intended to sit back there?
You said the radio is the same as other Chrysler vehicles but a Durango is made by Dodge and my 99 is a 5.9 lol
My research must have failed me concerning the years of the 5.9, someone else commented they have a 98 5.9. Also keep in mind, dodge, chrysler, plymouth, jeep, they are all part of the chrysler company. Still are, although plymouth is no longer around, and chrysler is now partnered with fiat and peugeot
@@ThatCarVlogChannel You are right. That radio was on Grand Cherokees, Cherokees, All minivans,
@@JohnnyTrulove all chrysler vehicles
Fallos de la caja automatica
Why such sh*tty lighting?????
