In this video lesson, GM Igor Smirnov shares with you the winning attacking plan for White in the Italian Game which happens after the opening moves: 1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Bc4. And Black usually responds with 3...Bc5 which is the Giuoco Piano or with 3...Nf6 which is the Two Knights Defense.
Both these main variations lead to similar positions and the position after 4.d3 is one of the most common positions. And that's the position where a lot of the amateur and club players make common errors or play very simple moves and lose the game eventually.
However, in this video you will learn the winning attacking plan for White in the Italian Game. GM Igor Smirnov will show you how to execute this aggressive attack against many variations and setups of Black. One of these examples include the game played by the former world champion Garry Kasparov!

Been playing this for about 6 months. Under 1400 almost everyone goes for pinning the knight. Such a powerful opening. Thanks for covering it.
Indeed, that's how you can turn it in your favor easily.
@@GMIgorSmirnov I just don't play the bishop move back and the queen move in the first line.
Are they just waiting moves to prompt an error? Can I forgo them in lower rating games or should I incorporate them?
@@dhagos Garry Kasparov Is a Very good Player. He does it, it probably means that you should play it against similar GrandMasters
@@dhagos So You should Play it against 2800s players. It is fine :)

I've played Italian 800ish times , never knew it could be this Attacking and SOO MUCH FUN , THANKS AGAIN
Italian game looks very calm and balanced
But it can be very aggressive before u know it
Going to play e4 for 2023,have many new books from amazon on opening strategy, middle and end game. And a few chessable courses. But your videos are ALWAYS just as important, brilliant channel. Many many thanks...
At my level (1000-1100) pawn to h3 often ends up with capturing the knight on f3 and recapturing the bishop w the g pawn or the queen. Rarely does the bishop retreat. I'm curious to see the theory after that exchange
Then they just help you develop your queen to a great attacking square. It's even worse for black
GM Igor, tomorrow September 5th is celebrated as Teachers Day in India in memory of one of our former Presidents Dr.S.Radhakrishnan who was a teacher himself before becoming President
The hallmarks of a great teacher are breadth and depth of knowledge, ability to make students think and of course endless patience. People coming back to your channel have seen all of these qualities.
Thank you and Happy Teachers Day !
God Bless You! Such a Well said thing
I agree. Igor is good at teaching. I can't put my finger on what makes him good but as long as he knows that's okay.
Thank you, this was very informative. I appreciate you taking the time to create it and share your knowledge with us.
Thank you very much for this my friend this is absolutely excellent I get lost playing the Italian game sometime! I can't wait to try the setup thank you again
I'm intermediate crossing I to the advanced side of chess around 1500 elo this video evolved my Italian game and your other videos also helped me with some new ideas and thank you for that u have been very helpful.
i’ve been playing chess for 1 year now. the part i’ve struggled the most in is the middle game and the position that you showed is a very common position i get. thank you very much
This is awesome!! I’ve been playing chess for about a week now since Xmas break started and my biggest flaw is being able to set this up perfectly and screw up the end game failing to checkmate 😂😂 yes I’m bad, yes this video helps. Thanks
This kind of videos, plans in every opening, are awesome. Very instructive.
Thx.
You're most welcome!
When Igor posts, instant LIKE ! :D keep it up man.
It really works 😁
Thanks a bunch for the awesome videos
Thank you Igor for the video. Indeed they are very helpful and instructive.
Glad you like them!
This was one of your more awesome videos Igor, thanks so much sir, worthy of a bookmark!
Glad you enjoyed it!
@@GMIgorSmirnov I want to get more serious into chess but I don't know where to start. Everything seems like it's made for people who already know openings/lines well enough. Any tips?
Very good, didnt have exactly this setup, but bringing the horse to the kings side, works fine
This strategy is savage!!! Thanks Igor!!! I would really like to know some attacking options if black castle Queen side or if they do not castle at all.
Thanks for covering the Italian Game...
Thank you
That was very useful❤
Beautiful. Thank you
Your videos are excellent!! I’ve improved my rating by 100 points
Awesome!
your videos are such a great source of information... what a great man!
Glad you like them!
I've been looking for a good video on the italian opening
Igor, you improved my understanding of chess significantly! Продолжай в том же духе:)
I'm glad it was helpful. Буду стараться :)
Thank you😊
Thank you so much 💗
Thank you!
Not many actually talk about what to do after the opening which I think is more important than covering openings thanks for the great video I really learned a lot from this
You have to learn positional games
Great advice! 🤔
Thanks you are the best
Very nice strategy move 👍 thanks so much for a good tutorial sir ❤
❤
Thank you
Excellent
Thank you. Awesome and very very useful for amateurs.
Glad you think so!
Awesome!!!
8:45 I feel like every time someone goes Bg4 to pin my knight and I go h3 to kick the bishop, like 99% of the time they just take the knight on f3. I play in the 700s by the way.
Ye I get those a lot I'm 900 rating. But if they do that just retake with the queen and you are good. In fact, that trade is bad for them.
Learning the subtleties of move orders is a whole new world.
Thank you for your videos, I've learned a lot. One question-at the 8:42 when black pinned your knight with his bishop, you said it was an error. I understand that it is an error however when is it acceptable to pin the knight ?
THIS IS WHAT I'M WAITING FOR. I'M PLANNING TO DO A TRY OUT IN SCHOOL AND THIS IS THE MOST VIDEO I NEED 😭❤️
Woooooo good luck!
@@kevinm.1597 Thank youuuuuu
wow. top tier video. great to see high level stuff instead of more dubious openings.
I'm glad you enjoyed it!
I try mixing both as opening traps are still effective in blitz, even if they are dubious from a computer perspective.
Igor really mastered the openings
Man I’m 2300 and 1900 USCF and I still struggle with the Italian I actually seen this line it’s called Tiktov variation something like that saw it in chessbase but he didn’t explain it as well as you! Thank you!!

Brilliant
Nice game
white leon..:) thanks for all Mr.Smirnov..
Igor can you make some Queens gambit videos(different lines etc), i know you prefer E4 and most players here prefer E4 and thats why 90% of your videos feature E4 opening but we the minority deserve some love too :)
Ok, I'll record a video about that.
P.S. Yes, we love you too! 🙂
Never a dull moment watching this video. Very instructional.
Kasparov's Knight maneuver to g3 and King pawns play somewhat resembles Fischer's Ruy Lopez games.
I love your cat behind you :D
I watched your videos when I'm in rating 1234 now I'm 1304 I gained 70 points after watching your videos thank you
hey I play the italian game often and some of the black players on these positions take with Knight the important e4 pawn and they reveal the attack on the knight on h4. How you handle this play?
B3 as black, pls upld sir.. thanks a lot🎉🎉🎉
And improved version of b3 white☺️
Can you demonstrate endgame strategy?
Why is the position at 18:57 winning for white? After ...Knight g6 black seems to be safe?
Nice
how can you not cover if bishop takes knight at f3? That happens me all the time, how should I go further with this attack if that happens?
thank you
This plan is very specific to the black bishop retreating after being threatened by the h3 pawn. Most of the time at lower levels the black bishop takes the knight and you are left to take with the queen. You did not show this line. Great video though. Thank you GM Igor.
All chess UA-camrs keep repeating that "giuoco piano" means "quite game", but while that's one possible meaning of "piano", it is clearly not the one meant here, since "piano" in that sense would be an adverb, thus would not work with "giuoco" being a noun. Instead, "giuoco piano" clearly means "plain game".
What if black plays pawn to f5? Is the best move not to take and defend with pawn to d3?
Why after .. Bg4, h3 black plays Bh5?
In every variation the best it can do is take out a knight, so you might as well trade right away?
Or better yet, move it back to e6, trying to get the white bishop for it...
Igor, could you have engine in some of your analysis
Pretty neat
10:57...Nxe4. Nxg6 Bxf2+ ( Kd1 Rd8+) (Kf1 fxg6).. kindly give analysis on these lines..thank you remote chess
thanks, tricks won't help much cuz in some elo majority of players are aware of them, but positional moves like you said, that will difinitly works, thanks a lot
No wonder I faced this Italian setup 50 times in Lichess yesterday. A bunch of his subs tried to put it in practice
🙂
Hi, I just want to say that you may want to add this video to your Italian Game Chess Opening playlist.
Sir, what's monthly charge of class
I love the intro
Best Intro award goes to..!!
What if white plays Re1 to vacate the square for the knight to go to f1 but then black attacks the f2 pawn by moving the knight to g4 together with the black bishop on c4?
How about if they just trade the horse with the light bishop instead of going back after moving the pond to attack the bishop?
Bishop g4* for black
I lost 100 elo pionts last time. Time to get back study chess. Thank you for uploading!
how can you play the italian game if someone played the Caro-Kann defense for black?
Many players will go ahead and take the K with B instead of backing off. Take back sure but pawn or Q?
EG-3 What if after 0-0 and Re1 black plays Ng5, attacking f2?
At 13:54 the engine say knight g6 check is much stronger.
hi also just asking, what is the best move after knight to f3 cause my dad always starts out with it
Knight f3 first move or after the double king pawn If he starts with Nf3 (reti opening) Plays D5 and make a queen opening setup the opening can also transpose into a queens gambit or others if you mean if he plays Knight f3 after the double e pawn so the opening is a vienna and you should play Nc6 and he wil must play pawn c4 and you should play d5 to learn the whole theory i guess there is some vídeos about these openings in this channel
hi ... I want to buy the course,

Thank you so much for teaching this attack🙏❤
Please make a video on crushing the French Defence as White. 🙏🙏
I've made a few of them already: ua-cam.com/users/GMIgorSmirnovsearch?query=french
how about 3) black f5 instead of knight f6?
thats why i love the Italian (imagine a 750 say that, aka me), its so elegant
Hi , dear Igor. I live in Iran. Is it possible to buy your educational packages from inside Iran?
What happens if they just take the knight on g2
I think black needs to counter attack with d5 some time in this opening.
In the games I play online (1100 ELO) 70-80% of the time, the bishop pinning the knight (queen on the back line), when a pawn is pushed at it on h3, they just take the knight. I retake with the queen. Most players I play just trade trade trade, very boring.
1:21 what if the opponent dont move B5C ? Do i have to Improvise ?
I would say just do the same as he does
I watched this video 2 days ago and since then I haven't been in an Italian game once
The fact was the opponent always capture the knight which was pinned and when we threat the bishop with our h pawn🤣
What if they take knight with bishop after h3
What if black takes the pinned Knight and white takes back with the white Queen?
What if black just trades the bishop for the knight on f3?
15:06 What if Black plays Ng4 after white plays Re1?
You can play h3 first then go re1 then nf1 and .....
now i can finally win from my brother thanks
But then,15:10 what if black night at ..g4?
What if bishop takes knight f3
I don't know if it's just me, but 99.9% of the time blacks bishop either returns to original position or just takes the knight. Any suggestions?
Them exchanging the bishop for the knight is itself a minor mistake that should allow you to apply more pressure. Blowing up the center and opening up the position to take advantage of the bishop pair, and then getting better at using a bishop pair itself is probably the right way to improve in those scenarios.
