Hi Matt, great stuff and very enjoyable. Its such a classic film. I do think you should have left the lipstick scene in ,its so important to everything that happens from that moment

Vincent Price once said how much he admired stars from the golden era of Hollywood "In those times actors were larger than life, almost deities. Sadly, these days, actors seem smaller than life..."
And he was talking about the late 1980s...
    Had he lived today....

I can’t remember the number of times I watched the movie !
John Garfield and Lana Turner at their best !
    A CLASSIC !
    TIMELESS !
Tay Garnett, the director, in a very good shape !!!

Hi Matt - this was my first viewing of your site and I have to say I was incredibly impressed. Of course it helps that I am a long-time movie buff and that I just recently watched ‘The Postman...’ in its entirety, for the first time. Your comments, all of your comments, were thoughtful, knowledgeable and just plain fun to listen to. I look forward to seeing more of your work. Keep ‘em coming...

Viscounti's version of this is free on UA-cam - it was made in 1943 Italy in the middle of the war and it has a lot nitty gritty sexual heat that got it banned by Mussolini.

Very good analysis. Cora almost always wear white cloths; that had to be done deliberately. In keeping with old Hollywood, in the book the gas station owner had a very Greek name but once this was made into a film his name became Smith. Don't want to insult anyone.

Very good, thank you for doing this. I request you do one of these for Body Heat. Made in 1981, it isn't from Hollywood's Golden Age, but maybe you would make an exception -- it is an homage to the golden age noir.... Have a great day

This is *really* a classic film noir portrayal of the forties-tense at times and wildly entertaining (despite the quasi-biological dissection and irritating hyper-tone of the narrator).

An anecdote about Lana Turner : When one of her husbands ( she has been married seven times ), Artie Shaw, once said to her « Thus spoke Zarathustra « , she replied « Thus spoke WHO ? « ... Did Artie care if the beautiful Lana never heard of Friedrich Nietzsche ?...
    I don’t think so ...
