    You did great, you can never stop learning, making mistakes and sometimes I make what seams the daftest, and that’s partly what makes it fun. I learnt to sew on vintage hand turn, and I would have a Singer Sewing Machine from every decade if I had the room, I was bought a machine recently only to find it all jammed up, I was offered my money back so we took a part refund and after a few cheap parts and a bit of care from myself and husband, taking it apart, cleaning it, the Singer Stylist from 1969 has a new lease of life, I love new machines but there’s something about the vintage, they have character. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

      Oh wow! I quite like the Singer Stylists. It's good to hear yours is working now! One of the reasons I have so many machines is - I don't want to see them go in the trash. They certainly do have character! I love them all to bits :D. Thanks for your comments and for watching! It's very much appreciated!

    Thank you for this video! I just picked up a 128K in _horrible_ condition. All the attachments are missing, and since it's my first one (other than an early 1920s miniature model 20), I had no idea what I was doing. Thankfully the wick was still there. I cleaned and oiled the whole machine, and now I'm just waiting for new bobbins to give it a spin. Can't wait.

    Thank you for this video. I hope you can answer this question. This oil wick in this small hole - what is lubricated and how? I got another vibrating shuttle machine by Köhler, but unfortunately I have not been able to identify type or manual. But it have got the same hole as seen in your video, and with no wick. I already know from experience when trying heavy fabric, that the shuttle race needs oil quite often, if you want to avoid the shuttle to start rattle. So I just guess that it could be to oil this race in some way.

    • @SimplyStitchy
      @SimplyStitchy  3 роки тому +1

      Hi there, you want to get a sewing machine oil wick to put in the hole, like this one here: www.sewingpartsonline.com/oil-wick-singer-hp30136.aspx?gclid=Cj0KCQiApsiBBhCKARIsAN8o_4iGBwDy9esga4eaNIuSCaKpgc20l1TgY0AEMR9nTNw03IpUKc5I__waAjodEALw_wcB . I've also heard some people use wool or felt. It needs to be something that releases the oil slowly. I recommend you only use sewing machine oil. It's designed for sewing machines. It's a low viscosity and safe to use around decals: amzn.to/37vfG87 Hope that helps. Thanks for watching :D

      @@SimplyStitchy Thank you. I do know, that the right oil and a wick needs to be there. So I am sorry, because this is not an answer to my question. What is intended to be lubricated by this oil? I just got some information, that there should be a hole to the surface of the shuttle race, and it should be the shuttle race. Do you agree? This hole seems not to be there or it is very tiny and clogged on my machine. I have tried to cover the race with soapy water and put air pressure on the hole, and then no bubbles is to be seen. Now I try to clean with alcohol. So If there once was a hole to this shuttle race, I hope to open it up again.

    • @SimplyStitchy
      @SimplyStitchy  3 роки тому

      It lubricates the shuttle race. Look to the right of the hole for the wick, into the shuttle area. Make sure the shuttle is at the back of the machine out of the way. At at the top of the actual shuttle race, there should be a small pin sized hole, near the top on the metal part of the shuttle race itself. It's probably about a couple of millimeters down, if that. That's where it is on the Singer, I don't know about Kohler, but if it looks the same, it stands a good chance it'll be in the same place. Hope you find it.

    • @sewingmachinesindetail
      @sewingmachinesindetail 3 роки тому

      @@SimplyStitchy Thank you. Yes, now I know that a hole in the shuttle race surface should be expected. I have looked very carefully after it. This is a close up photo of the area:
      drive.google.com/uc?id=15VJXa0Xn3UKqztLsCNGmR7Yj7O1Cu-pR
      I have tried to push with the point of the needle to find a soft spot all over this place. Everything seems hard. Then I have tried to put on a silicon tube to the upper hole pressurise the hole with air and set on soap water. No bubbles. So it seems this hole was never made or it is very tiny.

    Me again. I'm so excited about this machine! Does the Singer 128K use a different needle from the standard Schmetz needles?

    • @SimplyStitchy
      @SimplyStitchy  3 роки тому

      As yours is from the 1920s it should take standard 15x1 needles. Just remember, the needle is flat side towards the handwheel and the needle threads from left to right.

    • @SimplyStitchy

      There are a number of different factors to consider when selling a sewing machine. I have a video on my channel ua-cam.com/video/9YRN782zd64/v-deo.html which goes into detail about the things you should be thinking about when setting your price. One thing to keep in mind is, different sewing machines have different price points depending on the area you live in. So check your local For Sale ads to see what similar machines are going for where you are. Thanks for watching 🙂

    I just ran out and bought a Singer machine with a crank and after some research I found that it was a Singer 127 or 128. I wanted to ask you a question about the serial number. It appears to be Y1719741 but the Y serial numbers in that range of numbers are 31Ks? This machine came from England, would that make any kind of difference? There is no indication on the machine what the model number is. I don't know why I care, but I do and it's making me a little nuts! Could you help me?

    • @SimplyStitchy
      @SimplyStitchy  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Terri, your machine is a 128K from the Kilbowie factory in Clydebank, Scotland. The date is Jan 26 1924 and it was part of a run of 35,000. I think you may have looked up the Y with 6 digits rather than using the 7 digits your serial number has. It's easily done and happens to all of us! If you haven't already, check out my video on how to date a vintage singer sewing machine: ua-cam.com/video/DwpBm7UOz6I/v-deo.html It'll explain why the digits can get confusing sometimes. Thanks for watching 😀

      @@SimplyStitchy Hi Olly, thank you for the quick answer! After I watched your video I went back to the Y Serial numbers and lo and behold my machine has the correct serial number. I thought I was losing my mind there for a few. I think you are right, I looked at the 6 digit serial numbers. The machine has a little rust and the stitch length knob is frozen so I'm working on that now. :)

    I love these videos and am so glad I found this channel. I am about to get my hands on a hand crank singer from 1890 that functions and has been in use (so it still works!) by another maker. I’m very excited to start this journey.
    Id anyone wanted to know, serial number for the machine I’m referencing is 9444533. 💜
