Not pushed 2 stops. He over exposed 2 stops. ISO 160, exposed at ISO 40 and developed normally at ISO 160. If he "pushed" two stops he would have exposed at ISO 640 (160 x 2 stops) and "push processed" in development to compensate for exposing at plus two stops (under exposure). But you wouldn't push process expired film, you would over expose it like he did here. Expired film needs more light, more exposure as the film loses sensitivity over time.
